Madeleine McCann: Anjos Calls Mitchell A Liar And Madeleine One Year On: Campaign For Change
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Cop: McCanns’ spokesman ‘lies’”
Carlos Anjos, president of Portugal’s Police Federation, says of Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “He lies with as many teeth as he has in his mouth.”
The accused the former BBC man of leaking police statements Kate and Gerry made within hours of Maddie disappearing last May. These were aired on Spanish TV last week. Anjos said the aim was to give the McCanns an excuse not to attend a reconstruction.
Says Mr Mitchell: “It is categorically untrue that I leaked them. There was absolutely no benefit for us to do that.”
THE TIMES: Andrew Billen on TV:
“It was going to be called Madeleine McCann, but now ITV1’s exclusive, has a longer name: Madeleine, One Year On: Campaign for Change. The programme will follow her parents as they campaign for an American-style Amber Alert system, in which law enforcement agencies are empowered to commandeer airtime when a child goes missing. Ah, lack of television coverage. That must have been the problem.”
Indeed.

The more they try to discredit the PJ….the more it backfires on them.
Been trying it for 11.5 months…..the PJ seem extra credible to me.

If Maddie died of an overdosis on that evening, it would have been an extremely high dosis, to cause the death, and to stay dead in the apartement for a least two hours(scent of death).
If it happened the night before( we do’t know) it could have been medicines.
If it happened on the 3rd, it would be very likely she got a serious accident, caused by somebody.

If that is the case (that nothing will happen until the British police carry out all the interviews requested by the McCanns - and these interviews are actually translated and submitted to examination by the prosecution then I think that we’ll have to wait for another couple of months indeed.
In the meantime, expect the McCanns to be playing all their cards out in this period. Expect the unexpected some revelations will come out to discredit the PJ.

There are two separate issues I think:
1. PJ officers (individuals like you and me) are entitled to seek legal redress (civil proceedings) if they are accused of things that they have not been responsible for. This is why the trade union would offer legal support if any individual (PJ officer) would want to pursue charges against Clarence Mitchell for his insinuation of leaks. For a number of reasons detailed before, I think Carlos Anjos is only trying to offer support - but no action will ever actually materialise.
2. The PJ institutional response to CM’s accusation was a public statement denying that they were the origin of the leaked information and that the information divulged was not subject to secrecy of justice.
Number 1 is a distraction. Number 1 worries me because it’s not the PJ’s tradition to call out individuals (even less Clarence), and it’s not part of their methodology to issue public denials.
I hope I’m wrong but it doesn’t sound good to me. (I’m sorry if i’m over-pessimistic again today).

Leak was proof of McCanns’ innocence
Last updated 14:32, Wednesday, 16 April 2008
IT is almost a year since Madeleine McCann disappeared from the family’s holiday villa in Portugal and despite the most publicised abduction of all time, we are nowhere nearer solving the mystery of what happened that terrible night.
We haven’t a clue whether Maddie is dead or alive. No body has been found; sightings of her have proved to be false and eye witness accounts of what happened the night she went missing are contrary.
The one thing we know for certain is that the anguish continues of her parents Kate and Gerry.
It has now emerged that Maddie sobbed for her mother the night before she vanished. “Mummy, why didn’t you come when we were crying last night,’’ said the little girl to her mother the night before she vanished.
It is Kate herself who told the police what her daughter had said.
I doubt that a guilty mother would have dreamed of being so honest in her statement to the police.
The police leak may have been meant to damn the McCanns but Kate McCann’s admission was that of an innocent.

I believe there are still many witnesses from the list provided by the McCanns that need to be interviewd by the UK police. I read that this could take a couple of months therefore, they will need the extension as their enquiries are not completed. The PJ are being very careful IMO, not to mess anything up regarding the process and all details they want to have before charging anybody, if they in fact do.

Nothing they have done has been a normal reaction of a parent, they didnt get the twins tested, after gerry said on panorama he thought that the kids could have been sedated, kate leaving the twins alone to shout that maddie was missing, leaving them in the creche days after maddie went missing, when any normal parent would surely suspect a member of staff, an inside job, you wouldnt let those twins out of your sight. Their actions after the event point to parents who know their child has died, they certainly didnt fear the bogey man did they?
