Madleine McCann: Rachel Oldfield Knows, Doctors And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MAIL: “Stop the carnival”
It’s Richard Littlejohn:
I’ve always been uneasy about the media carnival, but figured if that’s what got her parents through the night, what business was it of mine.
However, one year on, there’s something distasteful about the continuing round of claim and counter-claim, blame and counter-blame.
Gerry and Kate McCann should be left alone with their demons, with our sympathy, and not live out their guilt in public any longer. The police and the private detectives should be left to get on with their job.
The Tapas Seven, the McCanns’ PR man, the professional ghouls should all keep their theories to themselves.
And their opinions?
DAILY MIRROR: “Rachael Oldfield of the Tapas Seven breaks her silence over McCann’s torment”
Tapas Seven? And why speak now?
Rachael Oldfield, a 36-year-old recruitment consultant, said: “I was there on the night. I spent time with Gerry and Kate during the week before May 3 and after.
What happened?
“Their emotions and their reactions were just agonising. There’s just no way they were involved in anything to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.
“If you take the common sense approach and look at timings and the fact they are medics and there are four other medics in the group, they would know what to do to resuscitate a child.
Common sense? Doctors. Such are the facts.
“Anyone with an ounce of common sense would be able to see they couldn’t have done it. And I was there and I know they didn’t do it.”
DAILY STAR: “OUTRAGEOUS”
Rachel Oldfield has a pop at the Portuguese police, and complains about being bound by law to, er, keep quiet.
GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “McCanns’ Anger At Being Kept In The Dark”
Says Gerry McCann: “I think it’s safe to say we’re getting very little information. We haven’t had any communication in terms of what’s been done in the investigation.”
“We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’ve always said we want to leave no stone unturned and to do that we need to know which stones have already been overturned.”
THE SUN: “Stop shifting blame, Kate”
IS it just me or are the McCanns getting on your nerves too?
It’s you. It’s them. It might be all of you.
Now, in a new TV documentary, Kate says that she wanted a baby monitor but the resort didn’t have one. So instead she, Gerry and the Tapas Seven made the bizarre decision to eat out every night and leave three young children home alone. I’m sorry, in any language that’s child neglect.
Sorry? Why is Gaunt sorry?
And, by the way, I’m not being heartless, just honest.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann’s father: police gave up”
Mr McCann tells BBC Radio 4 interviewer Steve Kingstone: “We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’d like know who has been eliminated from the inquiry and on what grounds and what leads are still being followed.”
No news is news

The consequences are, however, pretty catastrophic.
Every doctor in the country wants their heads.
M&A
Please note.
I believe you are not in favour of statements presented as facts without reference. This very dramatic claim and the author does not state it is her opinion. Perhaps this poster knows every doctor in the country? Otherwise I would imagine a number of doctors have been misrepresented.

PJ don’t charge any one the prosecutor does, and he has already refused to charge anyone with abandonment/neglect.

I think the police look everywhere for missing children. After all, they usually are lost because they are stuck somewhere unusual, where parents have not thought to look. The police also could have brought dogs, which would smell a body. The McCanns are doctors, they surely know these things. Children hide in fridges, suitcases, cupboards. If the McCanns had hidden Madeleine, am sure the police would have found her that night.
———————————————–
But, as I have pointed out, a child couldn’t possibly hide in a suitcase on top of a wardrobe.
All you have to do is place the body in the suitcase, and place the suitcase on top of the wardrobe.
And for several days the police were concentrating on finding a child who they thought had wandered out of the apartment.
That’s what all the searchers were doing; apart from the Tapas 9, of course. The Tapas 9 were helpfully assuring fellow holiday makers that there was no point in searching…
In moral terms the police did the right thing; focus on the possibility of a small child wandering lost and alone and in desperate need of someone to help her.
Indeed, in statistical terms the police did the right thing; you get to save a lot more children that way…
April 26th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
and dont forget, theres more to child neglect than feeding and protecting your kids.
be nice to give them some sort of future as well.
April 26th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
“The couple have also received a death threat and legal sources fear the Portuguese police may charge them with neglect for leaving Madeleine alone while they dined in a nearby restaurant.”
First time,I hear this: death threat…..spin?
PJ may charge them with child neglect. What a surprise!

well, certainly more altruistic than the ‘fuck em all attitude’.
fuck em all can apply equally well to scottish motorists you know.
even the ones with a half-gallon tank who arecurrently off the road.
i think it’s quite noble of them.
after all, if the govt can bail out the banks while they’re robbing the poorest workers, yet stand by while the coal industry died then i think it’s about time the average working bloke stood up and started defending the future workforce of this country while it still has one.
our kids need pensions as well you know, even if middle class greed has priced them out of the housing market and fucked up the planet for them.

Gagged? Possibly……..but i dont agree with you that it was to make to reflect the McCanns as concerned and responsible parents as you claim. Why would they need to do that Chenier. To convince who and for what reason?
—————————————
To convince anyone who would listen.
Why have the McCanns spent almost a year telling the world that they are victims of a dastardly villain, when the victim in all of this is Madeleine?
Self-obsession is the most likely explanation…
————————
Well they never quite put it like that but I guess they just want the PJ to look for their daughter instead of wasting time trying to cover their arses after being steered in the wrong direction by Amaral.
I mean, do you remember when Rebelo was first made head of the investigation? And can you remembering him with some of his officers jestering outside a similar apartment in full public view to make it look as though they were being fair and even handed? My arse……….. which is well rounded and smooth!

Madeleine McCann’s exhausted mother has thought of giving up searchSteven Swinford and Christopher Thompson
The mother of Madeleine McCann has admitted for the first time to having “desperate” days when she considers giving up the search for her daughter.
Kate McCann, 40, says that lack of progress in finding Madeleine has left her feeling “down, desperate and exhausted”. The couple have also received a death threat and legal sources fear the Portuguese police may charge them with neglect for leaving Madeleine alone while they dined in a nearby restaurant.
Despite all this their spirits have been lifted since they travelled to Washington last month where they met Ed Smart, whose daughter Elizabeth was taken from her bed by a homeless preacher. She was found after nine months of campaigning.
Footage of the emotional meeting between the McCanns and Smart, to be broadcast in an ITV documentary on Wednesday, was released as the couple prepared to use this week’s anniversary to reenergise the search for Madeleine.

Kate said: “You have days when you’re so down and desperate and tired, you think you’ve got to switch off and I think, okay, we’ve tried really hard and we’ve come up with nothing and now we need to make the best of what we’ve got. [But] we’re never going to hit that day. It doesn’t matter how small the possibility is [of Madeleine being found alive], the possibility is still there.”
Their young twins, Sean and Amelie, still include Madeleine in their games. “They make phone calls to her on their toy phones, then go off to find her,” she said.
“If they talk about her they will be told that Madeleine’s not here and everyone’s looking for her. It’s not brushed under the carpet.”

Andrea..
I agree that they were advised by their lawyers to return to England.
I also happen to think that if she had really been abducted, then Kate especially, would have been far more upset and hysterical - even if advised to remain cool and calm.
Can you honestly say you could have been as icy as she was?
I’m buggered if I could have.
Got to go now - knackered - but will be back tomorrow

Don’t think I’m Garth either……….driven away? only giving the scenario a chance-don’t think sticking it in the laundry or hiding body under the pool covers is a good idea when the place is about to be turned upside down……….I know it is all speculation at this point, but…..there are holes in the theory of parental involvement too-just looking at all alternatives-one is , of course, that I may be completely wrong…
——————————————-
People don’t usually look in suitcases in search of a missing child.
Particularly if said suitcases are on top of a wardrobe.
Of course, if said suitcase is buried in the back garden it would look a bit more suspicious…

Altruistic, tell that to the people without fuel to get to their work or go about there daily business, petrol stations closed fuel at £1.45 a litre, it may be a lot of things altruistic it aint, it’s naked greed and we are right in the middle of it up here.
