Madleine McCann: Rachel Oldfield Knows, Doctors And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MAIL: “Stop the carnival”
It’s Richard Littlejohn:
I’ve always been uneasy about the media carnival, but figured if that’s what got her parents through the night, what business was it of mine.
However, one year on, there’s something distasteful about the continuing round of claim and counter-claim, blame and counter-blame.
Gerry and Kate McCann should be left alone with their demons, with our sympathy, and not live out their guilt in public any longer. The police and the private detectives should be left to get on with their job.
The Tapas Seven, the McCanns’ PR man, the professional ghouls should all keep their theories to themselves.
And their opinions?
DAILY MIRROR: “Rachael Oldfield of the Tapas Seven breaks her silence over McCann’s torment”
Tapas Seven? And why speak now?
Rachael Oldfield, a 36-year-old recruitment consultant, said: “I was there on the night. I spent time with Gerry and Kate during the week before May 3 and after.
What happened?
“Their emotions and their reactions were just agonising. There’s just no way they were involved in anything to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.
“If you take the common sense approach and look at timings and the fact they are medics and there are four other medics in the group, they would know what to do to resuscitate a child.
Common sense? Doctors. Such are the facts.
“Anyone with an ounce of common sense would be able to see they couldn’t have done it. And I was there and I know they didn’t do it.”
DAILY STAR: “OUTRAGEOUS”
Rachel Oldfield has a pop at the Portuguese police, and complains about being bound by law to, er, keep quiet.
GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “McCanns’ Anger At Being Kept In The Dark”
Says Gerry McCann: “I think it’s safe to say we’re getting very little information. We haven’t had any communication in terms of what’s been done in the investigation.”
“We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’ve always said we want to leave no stone unturned and to do that we need to know which stones have already been overturned.”
THE SUN: “Stop shifting blame, Kate”
IS it just me or are the McCanns getting on your nerves too?
It’s you. It’s them. It might be all of you.
Now, in a new TV documentary, Kate says that she wanted a baby monitor but the resort didn’t have one. So instead she, Gerry and the Tapas Seven made the bizarre decision to eat out every night and leave three young children home alone. I’m sorry, in any language that’s child neglect.
Sorry? Why is Gaunt sorry?
And, by the way, I’m not being heartless, just honest.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann’s father: police gave up”
Mr McCann tells BBC Radio 4 interviewer Steve Kingstone: “We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’d like know who has been eliminated from the inquiry and on what grounds and what leads are still being followed.”
No news is news

The only time Gerry had to do the unthinkable was between his check and his meet with Jes O. So about 10 minutes or so. Enough time to realise what had happend, think nothing of the consequencies, bung her in a suitcase and then have a conversation with Oldfield as if nothing had happend. Oh and hoping that Oldfield just listens at the door.
A bit far fetched dont you think?

I just cannot connect with a parent who would loose a child and be able to put said child out of mind and dump her body then go and have dinner, only panicking hysterically and calling home tearfully later on, then going on a massive publicity tour to find said child. There would have to be some sort of psychosis there. I understand that people do inexplicable things sometimes. But usually there is some sort of history of odd behaviour. Nobody has pointed out anything about the McCanns. Not even “Well he was such a quiet man….”

Now I am very sure I will be corrected promptly if I am wrong here, but does anybody remember sniffer dogs being brought in the morning after Maddy went missing? We have always kept Spaniels in my family home and one thing I know for fact is they have a very keen sense of smell. If Maddy’s body had been in the apartment , even a few hours before , wouldn’t it be conceivable that they would find the spot where she had been hidden, stop and bark? That is what they do after all. Instead , did they not have to be given given her scent and did they not lead the police out of the apartment? Does anyone else remember this?

If you are covering something up (in suitcase) surely, unless you are completely non-human, you feel guilty, and go through all fears of being found out? What if he goes in this time and doesn’t find Madeleine, then what? You know M is in cupboard and assume a person may look there. This is what guilty people do, become kind of paranoid.

If Madeleine was in a suitcase on top of a cupboard (or in built in cupboard) for a day, she would begin to smell,
————————————-
That would depends on the temperature, and in any event I didn’t suggest that she would have been there for a day.
They would have shifted it fairly early on..

It is difficult when I dont know what you believe. So basically you think Oldfield is involved in the cover up as well. Well you must do because the McCanns (Gerry obviously) wouldnt ask Oldfield to check on his tots knowing full well one of them was in a suitcase!
————————————–
If you know that all Oldfield is going to do the ‘baby listening’ and not check the children, you are not going to worry too much, are you?
So why should not Gerry have asked Oldfield to check them?

If Madeleine was in a suitcase on top of a cupboard (or in built in cupboard) for a day, she would begin to smell, and it would have been even more doubtful that the McCanns would approve others checking on her, even if both of them were completely mad enough to have lost a child and still go out drinking and chatting with friends, only calling home hysterically a day later. Why the panic later on if Madeleine was already dead? It doesn’t fit.

Gery had time. Nothing is impossible. But it is very hard to believe that a first reaction to finding a dead child would be to hide said child in a suitcase and then casually go out and chat to an aquaintance, smiling and laughing.

Gerry McCann doesn’t seem to be a robot who does socially appropriate things convincingly. If anything, he seems to have people questioning his motives.

I take it Chenier it was muscle bound Kate who managed to bundle Madeliene into a case and put her on the top shelf? ……….. of the built-in wardrobes!
——————————–
Given the amount of time available to them, I see no reason why you should assume that it was Kate…
———————–
Well when exactly are you suggesting that Madeleine may have come to harm? On Gerry check?
================
I was pointing out that they had a long window of opportunity since Oldfield’s check on the children didn’t actually involve checking on the children.
Come on Garth, it’s not difficult, is it?

I was wondering about the abduction part of the statement.
———————————————-
So was I; Susan Healey definitely did say it, and I may even have posted here pointing out that it conflicted totally with Woolfall.
It’s a weird thing to say.
But then it’s weird that the McCanns will not challenge Woolfall, or indeed, Mark Warner; I assume that they are too scared of what might come out in a libel action against them…

I understand that had they been there, Madeleine would not have disappeared at that time. But they can’t go back and change things. It seems like a strange thing to do, and may have been because of peer pressure. There are lots of reasons they should have been with their children, including one of them waking up in a foreign country and feeling terrified of not being in her own room at home with the comforting scents and familiar shadows. At the same time though, leaving them does not mean that the McCanns harmed Madeleine or hid her body. Just that she was left alone. They have admitted to this. The rest is speculation.

The point is whatever has happened to Madleine would not have happened if they had been where they should be: WITH their children at all times to avoid “managing a loss”

It wasn’t to Phil. I also don’t recall hearing reports of him saying “you have to believe it was an abduction.” But then everything I have read or heard is second hand. Do others recall this?

I know there is a lot of speculation on how Madeleine died, and how she was hidden/sent to see/transported and burried. But would you bet your life on it to be true? And if there is a doubt, a very small chance in your mind that they have lost their daughter to an abductor, can you imagine being in their position and still keeping your dignity about you, surviving and carrying on and celebrating Christmas for your twins? I think it takes courage, especially with the world’s media watching.
I cannot imagine how any mother could manage after loosing a little girl.
