Madleine McCann: Rachel Oldfield Knows, Doctors And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MAIL: “Stop the carnival”
It’s Richard Littlejohn:
I’ve always been uneasy about the media carnival, but figured if that’s what got her parents through the night, what business was it of mine.
However, one year on, there’s something distasteful about the continuing round of claim and counter-claim, blame and counter-blame.
Gerry and Kate McCann should be left alone with their demons, with our sympathy, and not live out their guilt in public any longer. The police and the private detectives should be left to get on with their job.
The Tapas Seven, the McCanns’ PR man, the professional ghouls should all keep their theories to themselves.
And their opinions?
DAILY MIRROR: “Rachael Oldfield of the Tapas Seven breaks her silence over McCann’s torment”
Tapas Seven? And why speak now?
Rachael Oldfield, a 36-year-old recruitment consultant, said: “I was there on the night. I spent time with Gerry and Kate during the week before May 3 and after.
What happened?
“Their emotions and their reactions were just agonising. There’s just no way they were involved in anything to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.
“If you take the common sense approach and look at timings and the fact they are medics and there are four other medics in the group, they would know what to do to resuscitate a child.
Common sense? Doctors. Such are the facts.
“Anyone with an ounce of common sense would be able to see they couldn’t have done it. And I was there and I know they didn’t do it.”
DAILY STAR: “OUTRAGEOUS”
Rachel Oldfield has a pop at the Portuguese police, and complains about being bound by law to, er, keep quiet.
GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “McCanns’ Anger At Being Kept In The Dark”
Says Gerry McCann: “I think it’s safe to say we’re getting very little information. We haven’t had any communication in terms of what’s been done in the investigation.”
“We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’ve always said we want to leave no stone unturned and to do that we need to know which stones have already been overturned.”
THE SUN: “Stop shifting blame, Kate”
IS it just me or are the McCanns getting on your nerves too?
It’s you. It’s them. It might be all of you.
Now, in a new TV documentary, Kate says that she wanted a baby monitor but the resort didn’t have one. So instead she, Gerry and the Tapas Seven made the bizarre decision to eat out every night and leave three young children home alone. I’m sorry, in any language that’s child neglect.
Sorry? Why is Gaunt sorry?
And, by the way, I’m not being heartless, just honest.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann’s father: police gave up”
Mr McCann tells BBC Radio 4 interviewer Steve Kingstone: “We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’d like know who has been eliminated from the inquiry and on what grounds and what leads are still being followed.”
No news is news

AgendaWide, that is the rub, the prosecutor has already refused to charge KM with abandonment, don’t insult my intelligence by citing more serious charges to come. You bang em up for the lesser charge, and you got em where you want em to work on the more serious charge. My little sis’s hubby told me that, he’s a cop.

Team Mccann has been very active this weekend. Everyone has the urgent need to talk to the press. What a crap.

Ah yes the lovely Justine; I think that if you are not normally challenged on what you say, you can become oblivious to the fact that there are such things as facts.
The lawyers aren’t.
And the police aren’t.
This is good knockabout stuff but it is completely irrelevant to the investigation…

Not good on the distance calculations either is Justine Mc.
Must be contagious…this inability to calculate distance correctly when
associated with the McDoc’s.
So Huelva, according to the expensive to hire Justine, is only 55 miles
away from PDL.
By my calculations it is 191 kilometres….thus more than twice the
distance she quotes.
I bet some people who hire her must wish she was as lax with her monetary
calculations as she is with her distance calculations.
Would be costed at less than half-price then.

Thanks for the link about the brothers and sisters. I have been appalled by what I read about “the twins” (as if they weren’t distinct persons), about “their little act”- though I am not sure of the exact words. They seemed to be there to make the landscape just a bit less gloomy.

The definition of a pro and anti depends on the debate. I don’t use these terms but you do

AgendaWide, you of course will define a pro for us, I don’t recollect ever seeing a post here condoning the McCanns actions, or is a pro someone who would rather see evidence and justice decide.

Of course it’s full of messages, subliminal and otherwise! Journalism!
Edit/….
And yet, the fact that everyone who’s met them, knows them well, knew Madeleine, was with them in Portugal, spent time with them in the intervening months etc. etc. etc. seems convinced of their essential innocence (of direct involvement in the child’s disappearance/death), is puzzling, isn’t it?
Oh…………..apart from the police! Edit/…
****************
No, Maria, I don’t find it puzzling. It is not just the Police who are less than convinced of the McCs “essential innocence (of direct involvement in the child’s disappearance/death)”.
Many thousands of people around the world who have seen interviews, watched videos and followed KNOWN sequences of events have as much doubt as the Police, who have the benefit of more insight into the situation than we onlookers.
We are puzzled by the evidence of cadaver dogs, unexplained blood in a subsequently purged apartment, DNA in a car boot and the very many inconsistencies given to explain such findings.
There are numerous questions which might well appear in Amaral’s book. If he merely presents facts, even if unexplained, they cannot be libellous.
The McC team are hoping the majority of the populace have not followed the intricacies and deceits and will be fooled by trashy journalism and two hour documentaries presenting the neglectful parents of Madeleine as long suffering individuals who hope for nothing more than to be seen as guardians of safety - and perhaps Madeleine still being found…

As do I; however much the British media would like to believe it rules the world it has no power in the two places that matter.
Our Courts and the Portuguese Courts.
Clarrie has been fighting the battle for the public’s hearts and minds.
The police however adhere to the time honoured maxim:

If Amaral isn’t acting against the law, why waist time talking nastily about him? He will publish his book when he is allowed to. If not, then it will be time to question his actions, and no doubt the MCs’s lawyers will sue him.
He has been talked about in the British media in all sorts of ways, and those who now think he shouldn’t be allowed to write a book didn’t protest then. The best way he can defend his honour is to say why he thought the MCs should be made arguidos. If the law allows him to do so, why wouldn’t he? It will be interesting to have his point of view. I am not going to complain of that piece of information, and judge it before it is handed to me.
The MCs propaganda is all over the newspapers, constantly. It is said they aren’t allowed to talk about the case. But their friends and families keep telling us what happened, we kee reminded it was an abduction, Clarrie issued sketches of a wanted man, a newspaper even printed on its front page in huge letters that the MCs are innocent. if that isn’t talking about the case, what is it?

‘The nice thing about having a balanced view and not pre-empting the guilt or innocence of parties, is that we who have taken that stance are not backed into a corner, where as the anti brigade have painted themselves into a corner.
They have no where to go, the McCanns must be found guilty to justify the anti mob.
Where as people who are happy to let the law take its course, can say exactly that, what ever the outcome, we let the law take its course, without prejudging anyone.’
The pros are equally in their small corner. Some of us are in the middle questioning (you too
) but we have to be grateful to the pros and antis for bringing more information to Anorak and furthering the debate. Or do we ? thinking about smears, slander, libel and subjudicy.

Food for thought. A Portuguese gaol or a spell here in an open prison where, if ever convicted of child neglect, they will no doubt be given the minimum sentence (in view of their suffering), and when that is halved, it will amount to a short spell away in comfortable surroundings with much freedom.
Having done his time (should Government interest ever allow such a scenario), G will then be able to write, lecture, tour and continue with his would be celebrity career. Kate may not recover so well.
Still hoping justice for Madeleine may prevail.

Of course it’s full of messages, subliminal and otherwise! Journalism!
However, can one simply totally dismiss someone who has met the Mcs and spent a lot of time with them? We haven’t, yet we feel free to make all sorts of speculative comments.
Loach, of course, wants to sell her programme. I will watch it (could I resist?!) but it probably won’t add much. Kingston’e Radio 4 programme didn’t, despite all the hype beforehand.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Maybe.
That’s why the open mind is a good policy!
Rebelo will uncover the truth, I hope. From what I’ve read (could be wrong) he has earned his exceptional reputation as a policeman and won’t be frightened by anyone, I believe. I do hope that’s the case anyway.
The media hype is sickening, I do agree, but it’s on all sides.
Unless all this is a prelude to charges being brought, it’s possibly just the anniversary stuff, isn’t it? Wouldn’t we expect it? If there’s a case against them, no amount of media spin will stop charges being brought and they must know that.
ade
Of course a reconstruction might just hel, but might have been more likely to do so when they themselves asked for it but were refused by the PJ………shortly after the crime. “Crimewatch” has shown frequently the usefulness of recontsructions , hasn’t it?
Just because you do a reconstruction a year on, it does NOT mean you can replicate the shadows etc. etc. of the night in question. That damned weather! (Well, you country folk might be able to order the clouds about……?!! Aaar!)
Out with family today. Another new work project (wish they’d stop….perhaps I could write a book to save having to work ever again?) might FORCE me to give up my addiction, by the way! HELP!
Will still try to keep in touch via helpful people at home when I can’t spend time here in person. They lurk for me! (A loss of lurkers? Or is that game well and truly over?)
Have nice Sunday, everyone.
