I’ve always been uneasy about the media carnival, but figured if that’s what got her parents through the night, what business was it of mine.
However, one year on, there’s something distasteful about the continuing round of claim and counter-claim, blame and counter-blame.
Gerry and Kate McCann should be left alone with their demons, with our sympathy, and not live out their guilt in public any longer. The police and the private detectives should be left to get on with their job.
The Tapas Seven, the McCanns’ PR man, the professional ghouls should all keep their theories to themselves.
And their opinions?

Tapas Seven? And why speak now?
Rachael Oldfield, a 36-year-old recruitment consultant, said: “I was there on the night. I spent time with Gerry and Kate during the week before May 3 and after.
What happened?
“Their emotions and their reactions were just agonising. There’s just no way they were involved in anything to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.
“If you take the common sense approach and look at timings and the fact they are medics and there are four other medics in the group, they would know what to do to resuscitate a child.
Common sense? Doctors. Such are the facts.
“Anyone with an ounce of common sense would be able to see they couldn’t have done it. And I was there and I know they didn’t do it.”

Says Gerry McCann: “I think it’s safe to say we’re getting very little information. We haven’t had any communication in terms of what’s been done in the investigation.”
“We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’ve always said we want to leave no stone unturned and to do that we need to know which stones have already been overturned.”

IS it just me or are the McCanns getting on your nerves too?

Now, in a new TV documentary, Kate says that she wanted a baby monitor but the resort didn’t have one. So instead she, Gerry and the Tapas Seven made the bizarre decision to eat out every night and leave three young children home alone. I’m sorry, in any language that’s child neglect.

And, by the way, I’m not being heartless, just honest.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann’s father: police gave up”
Mr McCann tells BBC Radio 4 interviewer Steve Kingstone: “We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’d like know who has been eliminated from the inquiry and on what grounds and what leads are still being followed.”

I”ll never forget the remark Kate made on Woman”s Hour, something like ” I know
whoever has her,she”ll give her tuppenceworth”. What was the woman thinking of?
With all this flurry of activity and “coming out “in support of the McCanns, I think there is something happening. Either the case is to be shelved and those “in the know”
know, or a charge will be made and the McCanns are looking for ways to pay the
Extradition Lawyers and looking for support at home.

The finalists for the 2008 British Press Awards are announced today.
The shortlisted entrants were decided by 100 judges drawn from all the
national newspapers, the regional press and independent figures from the
world of journalism.
Leading the nominations at this stage is The Guardian with 14.
In the battle of the red-tops, The Sun leads the Daily Mirror by nine nominations
to six.
The winners will be announced at the awards dinner on 8 April at the Grosvenor

Finalists in the premier awards of newspaper of the year, journalist of the year and international journalist of the year are to be announced next week.
There are six finalists in each category except where a tie has created seven. In the reporter of the year category there are eight nominees because of a two-way tie.

By the way, I don”t think the McCanns can expect any more financial help from
Richard Branson, he”s only worth 2.4 Billion now, and even Philip Green has dropped
a few places in the “richest people list”, he”s only worth 4.7 Billion……Oh how the

Anguished Kate and Gerry McCann are to write a book about their year of hell since little Madeleine disappeared.
The couple are desperate to tell the truth of their ordeal and plan to publish a tell-all book with the help of a ghost-writer - with all proceeds going to the Find Madeleine Fund.
They have had “countless” approaches by publishers and writers who want to help put their story into words and answer all the unfounded allegations they have faced.
Next Saturday is the first anniversary of the day four-year-old Madeleine was snatched from the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
As they prepare to mark the agonising milestone their official spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “It will be the family’s story, the only official book. Kate and Gerry are both keen to put the truth of everything that has happened to them on record.
“It will be a detailed account of their experience, from the pain of the night Madeleine was kidnapped, to being named as official suspects in the investigation.”
Kate and Gerry have been gagged by Portuguese secrecy laws which ban them from speaking out while they are still “arguidos” (official suspects). They have been forced to stay silent while detectives leak malicious stories about them to the Portuguese Press.
Disgraced police chief Goncalo Amaral, who led the investigation, has angered the McCanns with plans to publish his own story. They have vowed to hit back once suspect status is lifted.
Mr Mitchell added: “A number of books are being published in Portugal and the UK. Kate and Gerry want the public to know the real truth.”
The couple have been boosted by an “inspirational” meeting” with US dad Ed Smart, reunited with his kidnapped daughter after nine months. The encounter is shown on Wednesday’s ITV1 documentary Madeleine One Year On: Campaign for Change.

Only now the PJ received the list of the phone calls made by Maddie’s parents and friends. The registers of three persons are still missing.

“Drop by drop”. This is the way how a responsible connected to the investigations on the disappearance of Madeleine McCann describes the way that the data of the phone calls made by the parents and friends on that day arrive to the PJ. The registers were asked more than six months ago to the British but only now they begin to arrive. “The British authorities already send us several invoices of phone calls made by the group, included the McCanns, but there are still some registers missing”, said the same source. We discovered that the missing data are from three friends of the McCanns and that is the reason why the complete analysis cannot be made. “Everything is being duly analysed but the crossing of the data means that we have to get the missing calls. Without them is impossible to reach any conclusion because two of the persons involved in the process are fundamental to the investigation”, the source explained.
An investigator that was connected to the case in its initial phase said that “since the first hour the investigations came up against bureaucratic problems”.
“An investigation in a case like this must be quick. But when we tried to obtain evidence we were confronted with incredible bureaucracy. An urgent rogatory letter took more than five months to be authorised”, he added.
To cross phone data is now a team task directed by the director Guilhermino Encarnação and by the coordinator Paulo Rebelo.
Police and banks in silence
But apart from the phone calls the public prosecutor Magalhães e Menezes still waits the register of the bank transactions made by all people that dinned in the Tapas Bar.
The objective is to know where the arguidos and the main witnesses were in the day the child disappeared.
“Although that request was made informally to the British police more than seven months ago and officially requested afterwards in the rogatory letter ( five months ago) the truth is that we did not have yet any reply”, said to the 24 Horas a police source. Officially Encarnação and Paulo Rebelo are laconic about the case. None of them say anything because the process “is in secret of justice”.
