Madleine McCann: Rachel Oldfield Knows, Doctors And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MAIL: “Stop the carnival”
It’s Richard Littlejohn:
I’ve always been uneasy about the media carnival, but figured if that’s what got her parents through the night, what business was it of mine.
However, one year on, there’s something distasteful about the continuing round of claim and counter-claim, blame and counter-blame.
Gerry and Kate McCann should be left alone with their demons, with our sympathy, and not live out their guilt in public any longer. The police and the private detectives should be left to get on with their job.
The Tapas Seven, the McCanns’ PR man, the professional ghouls should all keep their theories to themselves.
And their opinions?
DAILY MIRROR: “Rachael Oldfield of the Tapas Seven breaks her silence over McCann’s torment”
Tapas Seven? And why speak now?
Rachael Oldfield, a 36-year-old recruitment consultant, said: “I was there on the night. I spent time with Gerry and Kate during the week before May 3 and after.
What happened?
“Their emotions and their reactions were just agonising. There’s just no way they were involved in anything to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.
“If you take the common sense approach and look at timings and the fact they are medics and there are four other medics in the group, they would know what to do to resuscitate a child.
Common sense? Doctors. Such are the facts.
“Anyone with an ounce of common sense would be able to see they couldn’t have done it. And I was there and I know they didn’t do it.”
DAILY STAR: “OUTRAGEOUS”
Rachel Oldfield has a pop at the Portuguese police, and complains about being bound by law to, er, keep quiet.
GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “McCanns’ Anger At Being Kept In The Dark”
Says Gerry McCann: “I think it’s safe to say we’re getting very little information. We haven’t had any communication in terms of what’s been done in the investigation.”
“We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’ve always said we want to leave no stone unturned and to do that we need to know which stones have already been overturned.”
THE SUN: “Stop shifting blame, Kate”
IS it just me or are the McCanns getting on your nerves too?
It’s you. It’s them. It might be all of you.
Now, in a new TV documentary, Kate says that she wanted a baby monitor but the resort didn’t have one. So instead she, Gerry and the Tapas Seven made the bizarre decision to eat out every night and leave three young children home alone. I’m sorry, in any language that’s child neglect.
Sorry? Why is Gaunt sorry?
And, by the way, I’m not being heartless, just honest.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann’s father: police gave up”
Mr McCann tells BBC Radio 4 interviewer Steve Kingstone: “We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine. We’d like know who has been eliminated from the inquiry and on what grounds and what leads are still being followed.”

Maybe that article should have read “what they know” instead of “saw”? If something happened in the apartment, I don’t think anybody else except the parents were present, therefore the others wouldn’t have “seen” anything in that regard.

Can’t help wondering if it is a case of some of the group maybe trying to provide alibis without realising the full implications ??
such as the part that Maxine Carr played by giving Huntley an Alibi for the night TWO young girls disappeared (later found to have been murdered by Huntley)

“4 medics in the group to practice resuscitation” ….what for?
“they couldnt have done it” …they couldnt have done WHAT?
“Iwas there and i know they did not do it” ….she was there?WHERE?
“we face 2 years in jail if we speak”
“we said nothing from day one but there was suspects from day ONE….there was no arguido from day one
“nobody changed their story because there is no story to change”….. why not tell the truth then?

Thanks, but why are we talking about the Cipriano case?
Talking now in general terms, it is quite common for the media to embelish/adjust/make up things to increase circulation. The same way it is quite common for people to form opinions of events in foreign countries, when they have probably not even been to that country themselves. That’s just human nature.

That article is headed:
‘As Portuguese police fly to the UK to listen in on interviews with the so-called “Tapas 7″, what is known about the people who are key witnesses in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann?’
I think it’s no more than a talk-up for the article; trying to make it sound exciting and as if there are wonderful revelations in store.
I think the significant chunk of the text is this:
‘Matthew Oldfield was the only group member, beyond Madeleine’s parents, to enter the McCanns’ apartment during the dinner….But not having set foot in the children’s bedroom, he cannot be sure of whether the little girl was there or not.’
It is not terribly difficult to perceive that Rachel Oldfield has a very large vested interest in the existence of a stranger abductor…

Daisy, obviously everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, the problem was how Amaral was portrayed in the B.Media. Did you know that there was a line up of all the Police officers that Leonor Cipriano accused allegedly of torture, and she failed to recognize any of those officers? Did you know that Leonor gave several statements to the Portuguese Media in a similar way to the McCanns, crying and everything. That only after a year in jail or so, she stated that Joana wasn’t dead but she was sold by a uncle who had drug problems, however in court she never showed any remorse while the video of the carving of Joana’s body re-enacted by her brother, João Cipriano, was displayed. Many “consumers” of British Media have another idea, and that’s because most British journalists covering Madeleine McCann abduction strongly believe that truth never should be allowed to “kill” a good story. Even if I means destroying the reputation of an experienced CID Chief-Inspector- Gonçalo Amaral.
Facts:
1 – Joana Cipriano vanished from a small place 10 km in the outskirts of Portimão. Last time somebody saw her, she was on her way to a local groceries shop;
2 - Her mother, Leonor Cipriano, only reported to Police her daughter has disappeared two days after;
3 – After a long and difficult investigation, headed by Chief-Inspector Gonçalo Amaral, Leonor Cipriano and her brother were accused of murdering the eight years old child;
4 – The body of Joana Cipriano was never found, but samples of her blood were found in her mother refrigerator;
5 – Her mother justified those samples of blood admitting she had beaten Joana, for some reason, she was hurt and she bleeded from her nose;
6 – Leonor Cipriano and her brother, who had a incestuous relationship, were sentenced to 16 years in jail, for the murder of her daughter and niece;
7 – Before the trial, Leonor Cipriano accused five CID officers of beating her, trying to extract a confession. She named the five CID officers, and included Chief-Inspector Gonçalo (”Amaral Lector”, according to British tabloids…);
8 – The Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal investigation and ordered a police line-up, with the CID officers named and accused by Leonor Cipriano of beating her;
9 – The line-up took place with Leonor Cipriano behind a two-way mirror and she couldn’t recognize any of the aggressors;
10 – The Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrate that was in charge of the criminal investigation decided to accuse the five CID officers, but didn’t mentioned, in the accusation sent to the Court, that Leonor Cipriano couldn’t identify any of the aggressors, in the police line-up;
11 – Leonor Cipriano never confessed the murder of her own daughter. Her brother, in a letter written from jail, accused Leonor Cipriano of selling her daughter;
12 – Police is convinced (and the jurors at the trial found enough evidence to pass a verdict of guilty) that Leonor Cipriano and her brother were found, by Joana, having sexual relations, when she came home, back from the groceries shop. As Leonor Cipriano had a lover, at the time, they were afraid she would tell him what she saw;
13 – So, they beat her, in order to frighten her and keep her mouth shut up;
14 – Perhaps accidentally, they beat her so violently that they killed her. So, they decided to get rid of he body and cut it in pieces, keeping some of them in the freezer, while they gave the other pieces to be eaten by pigs (this is what police believes is the strongest possibility, because there was no other trace of Joana Cipriano, unless the blood samples in her mother freezer…)
15 – The body of Joana Cipriano was never found.
Joana’s uncle had contempt for human life
Leonor and João Cipriano, who have been held on remand for over a year, stood silently and without emotion as they heard prosecutor José Pinheiro outline his case. He described João Cipriano as a man who “has contempt for human life, psychopathic tendencies and difficulty in controlling impulses”. Pinheiro also castigated Joana’s mother for her “emotional instability, insensitivity and disregard for other people’s needs”. Only when Pinheiro announced that he was pressing for a 24-year jail term for both defendants did Leonor show emotion, sobbing uncontrollably.
Pinheiro explained why his team was pressing for such a long sentence. “The defendants’ guilt is heightened by their cold and calculating behaviour after their child’s death, as well as the devious manoeuvres they adopted to conceal the crime,” he said.
The trial included key testimony from Joana’s stepfather, António Leandro, who related that Leonor had confided to him that she had had a sexual relationship with her brother. He also told the court that during this conversation, which took place a few days after Joana’s disappearance, at judicial police headquarters, Leonor had admitted that she and her brother had killed the little girl.
A key element of the prosecution’s case rests on the fact that the couple dismembered the girl’s corpse. António Leandro, confronted with photographs of tools allegedly used by the couple, said he recognised a saw he had kept at home. In the video taped confession, João Cipriano admitted that the body of the girl was dismembered and placed in a refrigerated trunk. A doctor involved in the case, Albino Santana dos Santos, conceded that body parts, matching the size of a girl of Joana’s height, could have been stuffed inside the trunk.

Joana,
Thanks for that lengthy post. I will start by saying that you don’t know me or where I come from. I am not British (nor do I regularly read the British press). I am Chilean and living in Australia. I can read and understand for the most anything written in Portuguese. I also do read your blog on a regular basis.
I am no defender of child abusers or neglectors and my opinions are just that … opinions. No, I don’t know Amaral personally, and neither do the posters here know the McCanns personally … but we all form opinions and judge one way or the other.
I have read about the Cipriano and Casa Pia cases.
I know very well what strikes are and what destruction water cannons can do … I have been in circumstances like that many time in years gone by in Chile when I, as a student, together with thousands, regularly protested in marches through the streets of Santiago against the government of Allende and how his government was destroying our Nation.
I personally don’t trust Amaral and neither do I agree with anybody writing about a case which is still not concluded and maybe benefiting financially from a book.
I do also despise the company (Fund) the McCanns have set up and the benefits this has brought to them and their acquaintances or family.
I do believe the McCanns are covering something up …
