Madeleine McCann: Sometimes We Feel Like Giving Up
“SOMETIMES WE JUST FEL LIKE GIVING UP” declares the Mirror “…but Maddie just keeps us going”.
The headline is not, as you might think, an anguished crie de coeur from the paper’s editors. It is, of course, a quote from Kate McCann. The legend at the top of the page reads: “McCANNS 1 YEAR ON”.
Other papers follow suit, with the Sun featuring a 12-page special and pin-up size pictures of “The face we will never forget”.
The Star eschews such tacky emotionalism and goes for a hard news story for its cover: “MUSLIM SICKOS’ MADDIE KIDNAP SHOCK.”
The paper says police are set to investigate a “vile attack on Madeleine McCann’s parents” by Muslim extremists.
What kind of attack? A suicide bomb, perhaps?
No. In a “hysterical rant” on the internet, “fanatics blame the couple for her disappearance”.
All very interesting. But what of the Star’s stablemate, the Maddy Express? What extravaganza are they offering for Day 365? A 28-page special?
Curiously, the front page is bereft of the face we will never forget. Perhaps Express Newspapers have issued a completely separate edition of the paper devoted entirely to all things McCann?
Nope. The newsagents’ shelves are bereft.
We jest, of course. The paper has, as you know, steered clear of the subject since being hammered in court for its scurrilous and exploitative coverage of the case. Coverage that included far from subtle insinuations that the Kate and Gerry McCann were implicated in their daughter’s disappearance. (Not to be confused, we hasten to add, with “hysterical rants” by “fanatics”.)
With no Maddy and no Diana, what is “THE WORLD’S GREATEST PAPER” to do?
Read on, dear reader, read on…

It doesn’t mean the following night.
It means an unspecified night at some time after Madeleine vanished…

quote:
‘the cop, speaking anonymously, told The Sun.
“By the time we got there it was chaos,” he said. “When we arrive and see our superiors on the scene we expect the situation to be under control. It was like they weren’t even there.
“Family, friends, neighbours, staff, people off the street — everyone was in and out of the bedroom to check under the bed. The damage had been done.”
His partner added: “Any disappearance should be treated as a potential crime. It’s not brain surgery.”
Portugal’s top forensic expert Jose Anes later said he doubted anyone would ever stand trial because the evidence was too contaminated for any safe prosecution.’

Gerry McCann states that they ‘kept the room as undisturbed as possible’ and that he kept people out of the room because the twins were still asleep.

There’s an article in the sunday post

Where one of the bar owners in PDL states the following:
“Gerry McCann came in here one night after Madeleine went missing and sat right where you are now and had a beer with a friend. The place was mobbed but hardly anyone recognised him. ”
ONE NIGHT AFTER MADELEINE DISPPEARED, GERRY GOES OUT FOR A PINT IN THE BAR WITH A MATE?
Does this actually sound normal to anyone?
It sounds normal to me. Normal for someone who hasn’t got a child ‘missing’ !

” Remember the twins were so dead to the world that their father later concluded that they must have been sedated by a presumed abductor; not much chance of Madeleine getting any comfort from them… ”
Now you are mixing the theories. If the abductor sedated the twins, it implies she (or maybe he) entered the appartment, so it was no case of Madeleine wandering off.

I’m not mixing theories.
I’m being sarcastic.
The twins comatose state was much remarked on; Gerry’s claim came a great deal later on…

I too think that Madeleine wouldn’t have wandered off because of the twins. Children can be very caring and protective to their “baby” siblings, at the same time the company of the siblings would have comforted her if she were scared alone. So if she woke up at night and became scared, she would have prefered to stay with her siblings.
———————————————-
Why?
According to the McCanns Madeleine was not shy about putting her own views; ‘giving them her tuppence-worth’ was the phrase used.
Also according to the McCanns she had complained about why her parents hadn’t come to her and her male sibling when they had been crying, and had been assured that they would do better.
Remember the twins were so dead to the world that their father later concluded that they must have been sedated by a presumed abductor; not much chance of Madeleine getting any comfort from them…

Hello everyone
April 28th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Afternoon everyone. And what a lovely week we have ahead of us… spin + spin + spin to sanctify the McCanns.
MW Thomas is a great guy. After many months of speculation and not even knowing if he had or not a contract with the McCanns he comes out with a brilliant new theory. The one theory that in one single stroke discredits the PJ’s version of an accident and subsequent disposal of the body… but also McCann’s version of an abduction and break-in in the apartment (was there not a bundle man seen by Tanner? Was there not a forced a window? Was there not a cuddle cat on the top shelve? where they not being watched by a predator?)
MW Thomas is irresponsible, but he is only trying to make a living. He’s just being told what to say and getting some good money in return.
The worrying bit in this account is that the British media once again decide to give visibility to totally unfounded wild-speculation about what happened to Madeleine (but ofcourse it’s the PJ that makes up these leaks and the nasty portuguese press that makes up things…)
The less worrying bit is that it could be interpreted as an indication that the McCanns now know that the police now know that bundle man was an invention and that there is no way someone broke into the room.
What they are now telling the prosecution is: don’t press charges against us with circumstancial evidence that a break in did not occur. Because she could have left the apartment by her own means.

Quote from Mark Williams-Thomas in article above -
“Britain has not seen a single case of a predatory paedophile entering premises and abducting a child where the occupants of the house are unknown to the offender.”
and yet that’s what we are led to believe in this case; not only that, but that the parents, etc., recognised this immediately, with no thought to other possibilities.
Williams-Thomas does have the “wandered off and then was abducted” theory, and I’ve often wondered why the McCanns have been so against that. Surely that would have been more likely than the abductor who left no trace of having ever been there, apart from his super-human spring-cleaning efforts?

Very good description of the times we live in. I often feel that nothing is considered important any more. But people couldn’t survive if they felt the real horror of it all. I often feel that that is why we have become so superficial.

Don’t go mad, Jo.
Let us wait patiently. Too much spin kills the spin. The public will soon feel the attack on indigestion is not only upsetting their stomach, but also getting on their nerves.
Tragically for the little girl, the media, with the help of the parents, have turned the story into a comedy, with its two jesters Clarrie and Philomena, plus the weeping Mum and the Alpha male money-making type dad, travelling the world except Portugal. It is grotesque, and so low, such bad taste, when you think death of a child. We live in a vulgar time ; the most sacred events are turned into soap operas. They appear on telly at dinner time, interspersed with advertisements, watched by people sprawling on their sofas, the remote control in one hand, and a full tray of junkfood in the other!!!

Mark Williams-Thomas, director of a PR company, confirms business links with McCann family and later denies it
One of the most well known faces for the viewers of Sky News, the former Hampshire CID officer Mark Williams-Thomas, is also managing director of WT Associates, a company that offers, among many other services, media handling and advice for high profile cases and “design or review organisations media crisis policy”. Mr. Mark Williams-Thomas has been one of the most violent critics of the Portuguese Police investigation of Madeleine McCann’s case.
We emailed WT Associates and asked if the company “has or had any contract with Mr.Gerry McCann, or with a relative of Mr. Gerry McCann, or with any Public Relations or Media company that has any relation with Mr. Gerry McCann or any relative of Mr. Gerry McCann.” The first answer was short and clear: “Yes we have. What is it you are after?”, was the reply, from a company’s email, with no name or identification of the author, but sent from a Blueberry.
When we asked to confirm two details we already had – the contract was to provide media handling and advice for high profile cases, since the middle of May – the following answer was the opposite of the first: ““We are not providing any media support to the mc cann familly. But I have been in contact with the press officers for the family. I am unclear what you are after?”
A third attempt to clarify things got a reply that seemed more an order: “Call me. 07734 4XXXXX”, always whitout identifyng the person that was sending the emails or “asking” to be called on the phone. We send a text message, with our contacts and we are waiting for whoever sent the emails, from WT Associates, to call. We emailed also Sky News, asking it they were aware of the business quality of Mr Mark Williams-Thomas, whyle they invited him in to give opinion about Madeleine McCan’s case, presenting him as a “child protection expert” or a “crime expert”.
Mark Williams-ThomasProfile
His expertise includes in particular risk management and assessment of offenders - he has most recently been seen providing expert commentary on Sky News from Portugal about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann - and he now owns his own Child Protection and Risk Management Consultancy - WT Associates Ltd. Prior to setting up WT Associates in 2005, Mark was a police Detective specialising in major crime. He worked on or was in charge of some of the largest paedophile and murder investigations in the country, as well as being one of only 10 specialist Family Liaison officers during his time in the police. Mark is also completing a Masters in Criminology at the University of Central England.
Duarte Levy, in Rothley and Paulo Reis, in Málaga
UPDATE: On September 18, at 13h13, Mr. Mark Williams-Thomas sent me an email, with the following statement:
“There are no conflicts of interest. WT Associates has no business connections with the Mc Cann family and Mark Williams-Thomas provides his comments completely as an individual with no bias.”
