Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Columnists On Harry Potter, Frtizl And Bile
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to the columnists’ views on Madeleine McCann and family:
JANE MOORE (Sun): “Silence is not an option for the McCanns”
“Just suppose little Madeleine is trapped in a cellar somewhere, hidden from view while her warped captor conducts a seemingly normal life upstairs.”
Like Elisabeth Frtizl? It’s Tabloid Bingo. Eye down…
LORRAINE KELLY (Sun): “They deserve sympathy, not condemnation”
Since my daughter Rosie was a baby, she has always come everywhere with us when we go on holiday, especially to child-friendly countries such as Portugal, Spain and Greece. We wouldn’t have dreamed about leaving her behind to go for a meal because we go away to spend as much time as possible together as a family.
JON GAUNT (Sun): “I have little support for them”
Do you remember when you put your first baby to bed with a listening monitor and sat downstairs watching the box almost with subtitles on so you could hear every heartbeat?
If you heard an unexpected cough or belch you would sprint up the stairs faster than druggy Dwain Chambers on steroids to check on your little angel. That’s called parenting, isn’t it?
I wonder if the McCanns were as casual with their passports and valuables when they went out at night because as far as I am concerned there is nothing more precious than your child and they appear to have had scant regard for their safety.
ALLISON PEARSON (Mail): “The McCann campaign must NOT go on for ever”
Since May 3 last year, how many parents have mentally run the “Maddie safety test|” before daring to turn away from their children even for a moment? That may be her lasting legacy and our greatest burden.
Still, my small boy is not satisfied. “Maddie” is the big story of his childhood, bigger even than Harry Potter and infinitely more disturbing.
Harry Potter is Madeleine McCann? It’s all just stories. Any others?
There is a fascination in a momentary mistake that can never be undone, no matter how much a mother persecutes herself. In Greek tragedy, Antigone, the daughter of King Oedipus, cannot rest until she has recovered the body of her brother after his death in battle and given it a proper burial. One suffering leads to another. And there is some of that obsession, and that remorselessness, in the case of the McCanns.
But:
Do the two doctors really deserve two whole hours of prime-time when so many other people’s kids are lost and thousands are dying in Zimbabwe? Even those, like me, who have never doubted Gerry and Kate’s innocence must feel a flinch of unease.

On my computer, on the horizontal line on top of the screen, it says (fourth from the left, on the right of “editing”) : presentation (probbaably another word in English). Click and unfold. In it, you’ll find something that says “enlarge the text”, “normal text”, “make it smaller”. Click on the one you prefer.

Note how in the documentary Kate barely moves her mouth, it is as if after a dentist’s injection. When lying, I think it is difficult to move the muscles of the mouth naturally, because the poker player’s face expression is in need to be maintained, so the brain can’t cope. Only the best actors manage, like Emma Thompson, for example. Look at K.’s interview again for fun.

I have my lovely. I’ve seen them. I love Kate’s mums sentiments - ‘how could they have done this, I feel like shaking every one of them’ …..
I think that just about sums it up eh…..
There you have it. Even Kate Mccanns Mother is agaibns them. There stands the voice of reason. Poor gerry. His mother in law detests him. There’s nothing worse than the wrath of the mother in law

I love how you use the word ‘deliberately’
Lets not forget that twenty thirty minute checks are not enough, the place could have burned down in that time….
Perhaps thats why they ‘deliberately’ left the patio door unlocked!
What word is the right word Garth?

I was just meaning that the Madeleine case couldn’t make her worry about turning her back for a moment… unless she’s weird…
My poor brother got put in reigns after the Bulger case… all the kids did. Mothers became a nightmare… and then after the Dunblane massacre all the schools became fortresses and you couldn’t get out at lunchtime…

On sky News yesterday Murat”s Lawyer says his arguido status is due for review on
14th May, if his status is lifted and the McCann”s is not, can you honestly think any more evidence will be forthcoming between May and August when firestar says it is to
be reviewed.?
IMO opinion the McCanns have declared war on the PJ and are forcing them to make a decision.
—————
Val
No. I really dont think there’s any more evidence.
The PJ in my opinion are in a very awkward position. They probably know by now (well at least you would hope so) that the supposed evidence they have will not be enough to bring charges. More importantly, the McCanns will eventually have access to this so-called evidence which could be very damaging for the PJ if, afterall this time, it turns out to be nothing more than circumstantial evidence. Unfortunately that would appear that to be the case.
I think the extension of time is yet again a stalling ploy.

It was Jamie Bulger who was taken in a moment..
I get sick when people compare jamie bulger to this latest scum story,I go to shopping malls on a regular basis, lots of mothers are in a shop and turn their backs for one minute and the kids run and hide and maybe head for the door, you can see the look on mothers faces they are mortified,
How does that compare to leaving children deliberately in an unlocked apartment night after night just so the parents can go have fun,Jamies mum turned her back for a few minutes whilst queing in a butchers shop, and jamie went, taken by two scumbag bastards, who now live under police protection,
Lets not forget that twenty thirty minute checks are not enough, the place could have burned down in that time….

Actually, for the Mail, it’s an extraordinary reversal.
She’s following Anne Enright.
Of course she can’t write nearly as well, and she is making the appropriate obeisances to the most tragic star struck lovers since Romeo and Juliet, but nevertheless she is telling them to shut up and go away before they do any more damage…

” I think if I was that convinced she was in Morocco or Belgium I’d go look in the actual places where she was seen. ”
We don’t know if they occasionally went to look at a place where a sighting was reported. It doesn’t make much sense to me, because there is not much to find. Moreover, if they nevertheless did so, it wouldn’t make much sense to make it public. It would make sense to question the locals, but this is best done discreetly.
