Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Columnists On Harry Potter, Frtizl And Bile
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to the columnists’ views on Madeleine McCann and family:
JANE MOORE (Sun): “Silence is not an option for the McCanns”
“Just suppose little Madeleine is trapped in a cellar somewhere, hidden from view while her warped captor conducts a seemingly normal life upstairs.”
Like Elisabeth Frtizl? It’s Tabloid Bingo. Eye down…
LORRAINE KELLY (Sun): “They deserve sympathy, not condemnation”
Since my daughter Rosie was a baby, she has always come everywhere with us when we go on holiday, especially to child-friendly countries such as Portugal, Spain and Greece. We wouldn’t have dreamed about leaving her behind to go for a meal because we go away to spend as much time as possible together as a family.
JON GAUNT (Sun): “I have little support for them”
Do you remember when you put your first baby to bed with a listening monitor and sat downstairs watching the box almost with subtitles on so you could hear every heartbeat?
If you heard an unexpected cough or belch you would sprint up the stairs faster than druggy Dwain Chambers on steroids to check on your little angel. That’s called parenting, isn’t it?
I wonder if the McCanns were as casual with their passports and valuables when they went out at night because as far as I am concerned there is nothing more precious than your child and they appear to have had scant regard for their safety.
ALLISON PEARSON (Mail): “The McCann campaign must NOT go on for ever”
Since May 3 last year, how many parents have mentally run the “Maddie safety test|” before daring to turn away from their children even for a moment? That may be her lasting legacy and our greatest burden.
Still, my small boy is not satisfied. “Maddie” is the big story of his childhood, bigger even than Harry Potter and infinitely more disturbing.
Harry Potter is Madeleine McCann? It’s all just stories. Any others?
There is a fascination in a momentary mistake that can never be undone, no matter how much a mother persecutes herself. In Greek tragedy, Antigone, the daughter of King Oedipus, cannot rest until she has recovered the body of her brother after his death in battle and given it a proper burial. One suffering leads to another. And there is some of that obsession, and that remorselessness, in the case of the McCanns.
But:
Do the two doctors really deserve two whole hours of prime-time when so many other people’s kids are lost and thousands are dying in Zimbabwe? Even those, like me, who have never doubted Gerry and Kate’s innocence must feel a flinch of unease.

Solomon ES,
a good question…

Morning folks - what a lovely day it is today as well.
Kate is a saint, Gerry a hero, it’s the fault of the buggy and Madeleine is a vague memory in the mind of british journalists. The background remains unchanged - don’t go to Portugal - it’s full of paedos and fat, drunken corrupt cops.
Now… for some serious sleuth. I have a question to fellow Anorakians.
It has been said many times (by Kate herself) that the police have tried to suggest that she accidentally killed Madeleine when she was at the police station and was later made arguida. Important to note that according to Kate, the police questions were not suggesting that Madeleine died accidentally and nobody was there, but that Kate played a role in her accidental death.
Of course we have no way of knowing for sure what was said by Amaral. But I do remember that the police asked specifically to talk to kate first (whatever that may mean). But if this is true we may not be looking at negligence charges for abandonment but at manslaughter.
Can anyone think of a piece of information that may actually lead the PJ to think that Madeleine died at the hands of someone (and not alone)? And a second piece of information that would allow them to know that this someone was Kate and not Gerry or someone else (IMO only possible if exact time of death was determined)?
Welcome any thoughts.

A parent who does not willingly give their bank statements to the police, cannot be innocent, I believe.

It seems that one piece of evidence the PJ are still waiting for is the bank accounts. I am not sure they have had all the results from the forencisc lab either.
That’s why I think we are still here for a few month’s time, wondering if something new will come up next week.

Bank accounts are tricky things; not nearly as easy to lay hold of as most people seem to imagine.
Banks, at least in theory, are supposed to place stringent controls over access to financial data.
And of course, we don’t even know that the banks in question are resident in the UK.
Which would complicate matters…

seen this?
First thoughts about borders and did they search that night?
Today’s dailymail
‘In the minutes after Madeleine went missing, Mrs McCann and her friends instantly thought that the little girl would be smuggled across the Portuguese border.
‘I can remember our friends shouting, “We need to close the borders” and they were shouting “Morocco, Algiers”,’ recalled Kate.
‘I can remember all this going on – and roadblocks, “we need roadblocks”.’
Mr McCann said he insisted his wife stay at the apartment in the hope that Madeleine would be found. ‘

Good Morning, how are you? Thanks for the info, couldn”t find the info you gave on my computer so switched off, turned on again and it”s fine again now.
What do you think of all the publicity etc the McCanns are getting, to me they are
throwing the ball into the PJ “s Court and forcing their hand. I obviously don”t
think the McCanns themselves have created this “explosion” of Media attention for
them, more like the work of CM, plus all the extra money they are receiving.
If it is true that the PJ want bank statements ( I doubt if they could demand the
Tapas 7 to comply), maybe there is something the McCanns don”t want revealed.
I think it is to prove their Credit Cards were used when they went to Chaplins, and
their Statement is different.
Don”t know about you, but I am getting impatient now for some positive action from
the PJ.

Had G. seen one of our baby hamsters expertly squeesing between the bars of the cage to enjoy a walk-around under the fridge, He would have claimed that the abductor took M. through the gaps between the shutters.
