Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Columnists On Harry Potter, Frtizl And Bile
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to the columnists’ views on Madeleine McCann and family:
JANE MOORE (Sun): “Silence is not an option for the McCanns”
“Just suppose little Madeleine is trapped in a cellar somewhere, hidden from view while her warped captor conducts a seemingly normal life upstairs.”
Like Elisabeth Frtizl? It’s Tabloid Bingo. Eye down…
LORRAINE KELLY (Sun): “They deserve sympathy, not condemnation”
Since my daughter Rosie was a baby, she has always come everywhere with us when we go on holiday, especially to child-friendly countries such as Portugal, Spain and Greece. We wouldn’t have dreamed about leaving her behind to go for a meal because we go away to spend as much time as possible together as a family.
JON GAUNT (Sun): “I have little support for them”
Do you remember when you put your first baby to bed with a listening monitor and sat downstairs watching the box almost with subtitles on so you could hear every heartbeat?
If you heard an unexpected cough or belch you would sprint up the stairs faster than druggy Dwain Chambers on steroids to check on your little angel. That’s called parenting, isn’t it?
I wonder if the McCanns were as casual with their passports and valuables when they went out at night because as far as I am concerned there is nothing more precious than your child and they appear to have had scant regard for their safety.
ALLISON PEARSON (Mail): “The McCann campaign must NOT go on for ever”
Since May 3 last year, how many parents have mentally run the “Maddie safety test|” before daring to turn away from their children even for a moment? That may be her lasting legacy and our greatest burden.
Still, my small boy is not satisfied. “Maddie” is the big story of his childhood, bigger even than Harry Potter and infinitely more disturbing.
Harry Potter is Madeleine McCann? It’s all just stories. Any others?
There is a fascination in a momentary mistake that can never be undone, no matter how much a mother persecutes herself. In Greek tragedy, Antigone, the daughter of King Oedipus, cannot rest until she has recovered the body of her brother after his death in battle and given it a proper burial. One suffering leads to another. And there is some of that obsession, and that remorselessness, in the case of the McCanns.
But:
Do the two doctors really deserve two whole hours of prime-time when so many other people’s kids are lost and thousands are dying in Zimbabwe? Even those, like me, who have never doubted Gerry and Kate’s innocence must feel a flinch of unease.

Anyway back to my train of thought … both gerry and kate said seperately that she was alone with the kids in the apartment and gerry even asked whatsisname to check on her cos he was worried about her.
The PJ, given this evidence, would have latched onto it . I know I would have.

From the Telegraph link, posted earlier,
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1908158/Madeleine-McCann-left-alone-as-%27last-minute-decision%27.html
“Kate and Gerry McCann said that they had planned to take the family to The Millennium, a restaurant half a mile away. But because Madeleine and their twins, Sean and Amelie, were tired they decided to put them to bed and eat at the tapas restaurant near their apartment.
They sat down at 9pm and within an hour Madeleine had vanished.”
But this would have involved liaising with the rest of the Tapas 7, and directly contradicts the story about the quiz evening, and also contradicts the other story about getting special permission to eat in the Tapa bar rather than the restaurant.
It cannot have been a last minute decision.
Someone is mistaken. Or lying.

If you look at the sky blog, there’s a very good description of the legal process. Essentially there are about 21 stes and they’re at about no 6. Essentially they have to have a “bulls eye” charge or none at all - they can’t change it.
Explains the patience and tenacity.

I’ve thought before that the children were very young to have an enforced 7pm bedtime. IM experience they have afternoon naps at that age and can stay up quite late.
This latest account is turning the whole explanation into a farce. Who ever heard of parents of young children not talking a buggy with them on holiday? Why did they need to be asked if theier planned chacks was going to be ok? Of course they can think for themselves and not take calculated risks with child safety, can’t they? Does G not know how silly he sounds? ‘…we weren’t directly there and if we were, then, you know, possibly, probably, it wouldn’t have happened’.
I don’t like to be critical but imo suspects should shut up, and if there are to be any charges speak then. Off now

I agree, all my kids had a nap on holiday up until about the age of 4/5 and then carried on with you till about 10. We needed a buggy till they were 4 at least.
Having 4 it was hard carrying them as it meant you couldnt hold the others hands.
Gerrys comment is ridiculous, we werent ‘directly’ there!!!!
That was no turned back! Or popped for a wee ! Took the bin out!!!situation

Afternoon!
Was quickly reading posts - boss still away - and noticed Salomen asking why we all thought the PJ had focussed on Kate being the “guilty party”
IMHO I think that, by her own admission , and Gerry’s corroboration that the reason she was the focus of the investigation in September is cos she was alone in the apartment with the kids.
Gerry also said that he was surprised when he got back from playing tennis ( without a tennis bag!) that the kids were all bathed and ready for bed.
Personally I still feel ( I’ve said this before ) that some form of accident / anger flash took place during bathtime - Madeleine pushed / smacked whatever, slipped, fell hit her head etc etc.
Anyway back to my train of thought … both gerry and kate said seperately that she was alone with the kids in the apartment and gerry even asked whatsisname to check on her cos he was worried about her.
The PJ, given this evidence, would have latched onto it . I know I would have.
Course all this was on the 3rd of May.
But don’t we think it was on the 2nd the actual “disaster” happened?
And do the PJ now think that themselves. Both of them remain under suspicion and no amount of media hype and hysterics, documentaries, cuddle cats “crying” can alter that.
And Mrs Healy is not convinced either.
In my personal, informed by the media, impressions, opinion. Based on wot I see with my own eyes and her with my ears.
Oh — and by the way My heroes K&G - my dog, who has puppies, will not let them out of her sight.
But K&G left 3 children Alone. Unlocked Apartment. Foreign Country. Every Night.
Against the law of nature.
Comprendez?

There was a joke:
A man wakes up in the morning. Everything around him is blue. The bed is blue, his clothes are blue. In the kitchen his coffee is blue, furniture is blue. He goes to work. The car is blue, all traffic is blue…
At his workplace he goes first to have a coffee, very puzzled and confused. The tables are blue. The mug is blue… Suddenly there is a pink man coming to sit at his table. “Why are not you blue, too?” - asks our man.
“I am from another joke”.
Now finally I know - this was Clarrie!

3. I suspect that the PJ will have sufficient evidence to support that Madeleine died in the apartment, as a result of someone’s actions (and not alone), but is yet to determine exactly who is responsible for the actions that lead to Madeleine’s death. The two prime suspects are likely to be the parents (although others cannot be excluded a priori). Until they determine whose actions caused death, charges will not be pressed.

Sorry - just came back and picking up some previous posts.
You ask why would the PJ not announce that they had enough evidence that Madeleine died in the room. If this evidence - whatever that may be- is included in the inquiry file it is under secrecy of justice. There’s no way that they will announce it until the closure of the inquiry file.

Hi all, just poppin’ in, not sure which thread is active.
Just curious about the following reported in today’s Times online:
[In a documentary to be screened tonight on ITV1, Mrs McCann describes the moment of sheer panic when she first realised that their elder daughter was not in her bed at their rented holiday apartment in the Portuguese seaside resort.
“I rushed round the apartment, really quickly, just opened up cupboards and things and then just went flying out down to the tapas restaurant, shouting someone’s taken Madeleine," remembers Mrs McCann. ]
Just curious - did Kate take the twins with her when she flew down to the tapas restaurant, or did she leave them in the apartment despite thinking someone had taken Madeleine? If the latter, did she lock the doors on the way out? I’m just puzzled and need anorakian clarification. Thanks.
