Madeleine McCann: No Change, A Tourist Site And Entertainment
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE GUARDIAN: “Last night’s TV: Madeleine, One Year On: Campaign for Change”
It’s difficult to keep the visuals stimulating, too. We saw the McCanns at home in Leicestershire; Kate and Jerry talking on the sofa. But you can’t have two hours of sofa, so we joined them in a lot of taxis - in Portugal, London, Washington. And there were plenty of lingering tree shots - leafless, winter trees (this is a sad story, after all). And a flying heron … eh, what’s that about? Maybe the heron is an aguido, too. Does Sir Trevor know?
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine holiday apartment becomes ’sick tourist attraction’ one year on from her disappearance”
Coachloads of journalists arrive every day. It’s sick.
DAILY MIRROR: “Tourists posing for pictures at McCann tragedy spots”
Pensioner Pamela Fenn, who lives above the McCanns’ holiday apartment, said: “It’s sick.
“They stand outside and then have photographs taken with their children.”
A source close to the McCanns said yesterday: “It’s disgraceful.”
It’s not as if the disappearance of a missing child is entertaining.
The floodlights at Premiership club Everton will be switched on this Saturday to mark the anniversary in a campaign called Light The Way Home.
LIVERPOOL ECHO: “Madeleine McCann: Family prepare for first anniversary of her disappearance”
People around the world are being urged to light a candle, shine a torch or turn on a porch lamp on Saturday night as a gesture of support for Madeleine’s family and friends.
A lighter held in the air?
Robert Murat, the third arguido in the case, is intending to maintain a low profile and will probably stay away from Praia da Luz on Saturday.
He said: “The anniversary is for a little girl who went missing - Madeleine.
“The anniversary is not about us, the McCanns, the PJ (Portuguese detectives) or anything else but a little girl going missing.”
THE TIMES: “Madeleine, One Year On: Campaign for Change; Escape from Alcatraz: The True Story”
Stefanie Marsh: Why must television do compassion? Why, when faced with a captive audience, a prime-time slot and a story that could, if they’d let it, tell itself, must television turn to mush and mutate into a series of treacly Hallmark bereavement cards?…
At one point Gerry McCann admits that his “wife is carrying on in a quasi-real existence”. What she is really doing is falling apart, but too much gloop from the director turned the McCanns’ terrible situation into a guilt trip that made me want to watch The Apprentice instead.
THE INDEPENDENT: “Last Night’s TV: Madeleine, One Year On: Campaign for Change ITV1″
“You can’t always blame the parents,” says Thomas Stucliffe:
They still get a lot of letters, the McCanns, sorting them out into boxes marked “well-wishers”, “ideas”, “psychics” and “nutty”. Incredibly, they also need a box marked “nasty” for messages such as the one that Gerry read out at the beginning of the film. “How can you use money given by poor people in good faith to pay your mortgage on your mansion? You fucking thieving bastards. Your brat is dead because of your drunken arrogance. Shame on you. I curse you and your family to suffer forever. Cursed Christmas. If you had any shame, you would accept full responsibility for your daughter’s disappearance and give all the money back. You are scum.” This heart-warming expression of support had been written inside a Christmas card. The Daily Express, by contrast, chose to print its hate mail on its own front page, confident that there were enough readers out there who would prefer infanticide to unresolved mystery – or to no McCann story at all. And all the time, the McCanns themselves live a life horribly suspended between what might have been and what could happen next, between “if only” and “maybe”.

if friend of yours in the UK installs psiphon on their computer (PC and Linux only so far, Mac support coming soon) and then gives you a url, username and password, you then navigate to that URL in your browser, enter your username and password and then enter the url you want to access in the psiphon toolbar. Any website you access will only see your friend’s computer’s IP address and not your actual IP address

Who the hell do they think they are - Bob Geldof?? Why not light a candle everynight for the poor lot in Iraq? I’ll tell you why - because it wouldnt do a blind bit of good. I really did think it was a joke when I read about the line along the Welsh Coast, I really did think it was a send up - but NO - its for real!! and what will happen? chancers going along with buckets asking for donations, the McClann going along with buckets asking for donations, the whole bloody world lighting up - Maybe if the lights of the world are switched on it will reveal all that has been hiding in the shadows for the past 12 months

Are you talking about the Breakfast TV one? I watched that and the SkyNews one
and thought the Sky one asked all the right questions.
Either way, theyv”e shot themselves in the foot, they are on Missing tomorrow
morning on BBC, how much more can the public take? I would like them to be asked
why so much of public donated money has been spent on Metodo 3 who are more
noted for Fraud investigations rather than finding missing children. Also, why employ
them so many months after Madeleine”s disappearance.?

We prayed all night then went to look for Madeleine’
Kate and Gerry McCann
(Steve Parsons/PA)
Kate and Gerry McCann tell today how they prayed through the dark, cold night that Madeleine went missing before going out on a desperate dawn search through the deserted streets of Praia da Luz.
In a documentary to be screened tonight on ITV1, Mrs McCann describes the moment of sheer panic when she first realised that their elder daughter was not in her bed at their rented holiday apartment in the Portuguese seaside resort.
“I rushed round the apartment, really quickly, just opened up cupboards and things and then just went flying out down to the tapas restaurant, shouting someone’s taken Madeleine,” remembers Mrs McCann.
“And that’s when the nightmare started.
“I just remember saying: ’Not Madeleine, not Madeleine, not Madeleine’ and I can just remember saying that over and over and over again.
“Gerry was the same… I’m not used to seeing Gerry obviously that upset.”
Mr McCann interjects: “I think fear is probably the right word, fear for your daughter, fear for yourself, fear for your family, fear for everything and that horrible kind of adrenalin - fight, flight.”
On the reaction of their doctor friends, he says: “Some things kicked in and there was a lot of activity within the group quickly … I don’t know if it’s (being) used to dealing with very stressful situations at work or otherwise.”

Thankx Firestar but I can’t get it - prob cos I’m not in UK.
Nothing new I suppose?
These are my questions:
- Regarding the speculation about the “Last photo” – the one of Madeleine from the group shot with Gerry and Amelie, can you confirm that the photo was altered and why - was it for example by a newspaper or yourselves before releasing it?
- Did you ask Jez Wilkins of any other neighbours if they had seen Madeleine, or taken her into their apartment, before you decided she had been abducted?
- Do you think she could have wandered out?
- During the day, did you put measures in place to stop Madeleine wandering out onto the street? Did you realise that all three exterior sides of your apartment faced public roads with traffic or pedestrian access? Was Madeleine able to open the little gate which did not have a lock?
- When you went to dinner, what did you tell Madeleine to do if whe woke and needed you? Could she use a phone? Did you consider using walkie talkies or even a baby listener, if you were so near?
- If you didn’t have phones, and you were relaxing on hols, is it possible that the gaps between checking were longer than you thought?
- you told other holiday makers (Bridget O’donnell) that you were happy to leave the kids - have you thought about whom else you might have also even inadvertently told?
- When exactly did you call the police? Why did you delay because you had no portuguese – wouldn’t you have tried in English anyway since it was so important?
- What made you think the window was jemmied?
- did you ask in the early hours where the Church was and why - had you not noticed it before?
- Was Thurs your 5th night on holidays as you said in the documentary or the 6th?
- Why did you not bring a buggy? Why did you not buy or borrow one? Equally baby monitor?
- Why did you not use the babysitting service?
- Did you bring a tennis bag and where is it?

no one asked why the cat was washed, why the apt was cleaned, pointed out the apartment wasn’t visible, or asked what if the fucking thing had burned down.
no one asked why they’d agreed to go to portugal if the world media filmed it then said they wouldn’t go because of the media, no one said what the fuck do you know about whether a reconstruction would help, you’re the main suspects.
bollocks, all of it.
Totally agree with everything you have just said.

Hi Jo,
Did you see the Interview? Kay Burley just announcing the McCanns again, a shot
of Gerry and Kate walking away from a car (possible Sky Car Park?) and she looks
p….ed off.
Dermot was very good, asked all the right questions, obviously sifted through the
e-mails and picked out the ones people wanted to know the answers to. I think they
have gone OTT with overexposure on T.V.
Just been reported, the children left in the Basement in Austria are in a special
clinic, can”t speak, just growls………it truly is horrific.!!!!!!!!
