Madeleine McCann: Josef Fritzl, Tabloid Bingo And Watching Kate McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR (front page): “We’ll find Madeleine ourselves”
It is the McCanns’ “EXTRAORDINARY VOW”.
Any news of Metodo 3, the sleuths who would find Madeleine by last Christmas?
TWINS IN VOW TO FIND SIS - MISSING MADELEINE McCANN: ONE YEAR ON
The McCanns’ three-year-old twins Sean and Amelie have promised their grieving parents they will rescue their missing big sister.
Well, why not let them have a go?
Says Gerry McCann: “Madeleine is everywhere in our lives.” All our lives.
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “’One year on, we’re no closer to finding Maddy’”
Says Kate McCann: “There has been that much speculation in a lot of the media, particularly the written press. It’s taking away people searching for Madeleine.”
Says Kate McCann, and not Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ media handler.
POLO SHIRTS (a company selling T-shirts): “T-Shirts can be very valuable tools in helping to find missing children. Think about how many people see you each and every day. If you are wearing a T-shirt with the picture of a missing child on it then all of those people are also seeing the child and, hopefully, watching for her everywhere that they go. In the case of Madeleine McCann, the sale of T-Shirts is also helping to raise money for Madeleine’s fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned.”
Let’s hear it for the T-shirts!
GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “Tragedy Breeds Tourism”
It is a year since Madeleine McCann vanished.
Madeleine McCann and Josef Fritzl? We’ve already had the McCanns and Elisabeth Fritzl. There’s a link? Joan Burnie sees one..
The apartment from which the then three-year-old disappeared has now become a sick tourist attraction, where people take their own kiddies to be photographed where once Madeleine slept.
Next year, can we expect the Austrian Tourist Board to promote tours of the dungeon in which Josef Fritzl incarcerated and abused his daughter?
THE SUN: “Dungeon rescue gives me hope”
Madeleine McCann and Elisabeth Fritzl? A link?
MISSING Madeleine McCann’s mum told yesterday how the astonishing rescue of Austrian dungeon girl Elisabeth Fritzl has given her fresh hope that her daughter is still alive.
Kate, 40, said that hearing how Elisabeth was saved after 24 years imprisonment renewed her belief that little Maddie may also be held captive somewhere.
It’s Tabloid Bingo! Bingo! Bingo!
METRO: “Dungeon fear for Maddy”
THE GUARDIAN: “Fritzl case proves long-term missing can re-emerge, say McCanns”
The couple had taken hope from the case of Elisabeth Fritzl, the Austrian woman whose father locked her in a cellar beneath his house for 24 years, and fathered seven children with her, said Gerry McCann.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “Kate: one year on: A portrait of torment”
Kate McCann is a “GP”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH (front page): “MADELEINE JUST FEELS VERY CLOSE”
Kate McCann:
It’s a sense, really. Madeleine just feels very close. It’s more of a kind of sensation that she’s there. You try to be objective and think, ‘Is that just because I’m her mum and I want to believe it?’ But it hasn’t changed.

Found this on martin brunts blog via 3a’s and thought it was a wonderful post.
This is a message on the findmadeleine.com site that is so incredibly profound and I wanted to share this with you: Anyone who is not touched by this message is missing a vital organ, particularly your heart.
From: Mark Date added 02/05/2008 00:18:40
How do I express the depth of emotion I feel after last night’s documentary whilst sat staring at a computer screen?? Every right-minded person that witnessed the eternal anguish you are suffering is in awe of the strength you have found enduring what is easily the worst possible position any loving parent can find themselves in. If most people are honest they will, at one time or another, have entertained the tiniest doubts about your actions, or in some cases your involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance. Following the sensationalist press coverage fuelled by inhumane journalists, ruthless editors and media bosses desparate for increased circulation, the overwhelming majority of people are now clearly able to distinguish between the insidious lies being drip-fed to us and the true reality of the nightmare you live with on a daily basis. Madeleine has touched so many lives, had such a profound effect on so many people that her plight will always be remembered, long after she returns home to her family. Will anyone ever know how many other children’s welfare would have been severely affected if not for Madeleine? The out-pouring of genuine support for you and your family will have a direct and positive effect on the welfare of children worldwide. It may be of little consolation to you at present, but you have pricked the conscience of the civilised world in the way that we should consider the sanctity of our children. There must be an enormous number of people that have found reason to re-assess the way in which they value the innocence of childhood and suddenly realise that they have taken the security and welfare of all of our young ones for granted. Your devotion and deep love for Madeleine has shown so many parents what it really means to be responsible for the wellbeing of our most precious inheritance. There are millions of us trying reluctantly to imagine ourselves in your position. So many of us want to offer support, not pity & your resolute attitude to the search ensures that we maintain this approach. I don’t pray, but I do believe in the power of collective thought, there are masses of people willing the safe return of your daughter, stay strong, stay focussed, stay together.

He would like people to think he has, but that’s a different matter.
Let’s face it; if he had that sort of pull he wouldn’t be earning a miserable £70K, and he wouldn’t be trotting around like a toy poodle.

gratifying to know. but it does surprise me a lot that the star newspapers caved in so easily, they almost even exonerated them. how strange i thought.

Well, who knows?
But I still think cleaning and “staging” would have taken more preparation.
staging yes, i find that difficult to imagine, reacting not so much so. and i find it difficult to imagine they did that and carried it for for so many months, but i can see how it could be possible. i think they had an emergency situation which because of their professionalism they carried of quite well, i think what followed was a snowball effect, relatives sending out emails and setting up websites and charities and the like which they went with having no other choice because of the story of abduction they told.

Bad mistake…..A man who wears Pink Shirts should not try to go

you know, it took me ages to work out who or what pinkie was, just never noticed, really
no, i saw what he said on an interview this morning and i was a bit worried because he seemed to be implying he could pull strings, that he had a bit of push in certain places, and i don’t like that, i don’t like people who threaten with hidden ‘muscle’ power which is what he seemed to be implying, made me think of certain govmint strings he thinks he’s got, which he may well have
