i kind of agree with you here, yes, it makes sense from the viewpoint of a desperate innocent parent. but it can also bee seen as something else as you know, a huge smokescreen, carrying on the lie to it’s logical end. perhaps they really are so desperate that it does not matter about breaking the law.

Maybe them being declared arguida and arguido has made part of the public suspicious. But the arguido state has since expired in the public opinion, no extension admissible. “If they are guilty, they would have long been charged.” seems to be the prevailing public opinion now.

I hope the PJ will not offer the McCanns a deal without insisting that the McCanns first admit there was no abduction. I cannot imagine the PJ at this point being willing to perpetuate this charade in any way. Likewise, the McCanns will never admit there was NOT an abduction. My prediction is that the PJ will charge manslaughter, etc.; the McCanns’s lawyers will fight their extradition; the McCanns will be tried in abstentia. At this point, I don’t even care if the McCanns manage to avoid jail time, so long as the PJ OFFICIALLY call them liars for claiming Madeleine was abducted.

May stand corrected myself! Have only just started reading some of the reports now about the “hotline”. Have just read report in Scotsman.
Not sure yet exactly what it is but it does look as if it may be more than I thought. Will carry on reading as many reports as I can find now and maybe come back later. I haven’t even seen the interviews, only the documentary.
Still think, whatever it is, that they’ll have taken advice. Do you?
