Madeleine McCann: Let Us Pray, Light The Way, It’s A Year Today
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN (front page): “MADDIE: 1 YEAR ON”
A year of headlines, sensation and speculation. A year of Watching The Parents.
DAILY MIRROR (front page): “LIGHT A CANDLE FOPR OUR MADDIE”
And leave a chair empty at the dinner table, too? And when should the candle be lit?
“9:15 tonight… A YEAR ON”
Did you light a candle a year after 7/11, the end of the Falklands War, the Hillsborough disaster?
Did the Mirror forget to tell you to?
It is “A DAY TO PRAY”.
FIONA PHILLIPS: “A year ago today Madeleine McCann’s mummy and daddy, Kate and Gerry, became victims of the most colossal crime.”
Mummy and daddy… Are Mirror readers being asked to empathise with Madeleine? The fact is, it could. It could happen to any of us.
Grip hands tighter. Avoid Portugal. Spread the anxiety. The rare crime of a chid abduction, as Phillips supposes, might find a victim in your child.
I fill my car up with petrol and sometimes leave the children in the back when I go and pay for it. It could happen to me.
I’ve seen mums chatting to friends in supermarkets and on busy pavements while their children wander off. It could happen to them.
It happened to the McCanns in a child-friendly, family holiday village. It could happen to you.
YORKSHIRE POST: “The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has written a special prayer to mark the first anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance.”
Church of England PR?
Father God, we pray for Madeleine McCann Keep her safe and take away her fear and anxiety May your holy angels guard and protect her We pray that she may be reunited with those who love her Give hope to all her loved ones And hear our cry for her safe return We offer our prayer in the name of the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord. Amen.
DAILY TELEGRPAH: “McCann haters - the lowest of the low”
SIMON HEFFER:
Just when one thinks one’s capacity for shock is exhausted, one reads some of the charming, expletive-rich comments sent to Kate and Gerry McCann in the last year since their daughter Madeleine evaporated in Portugal. I know some nutters are convinced they killed her, which I am equally convinced is balderdash: but what shocks me is that even those who accept that someone else abducted her cannot resist delving into the still-open wound the McCanns have, and attacking them for their supposed negligence on that evening last May.
I try to envisage the sense of smug satisfaction these people have when the letter is posted or the send button pressed on the email: but, despite a long study of human degeneracy, I simply can’t.
THE SCOTSMAN: “In the shadow of the bogeyman”
There is no such comfort for my children’s generation. They know the worst can happen because it did. The bogeyman came and took Madeleine from her bed. And for weeks on end they could not turn their heads nor take a breath without being reminded that he had. The press picked up our fear and shone it back at us.
THE GUARDIAN: “Services to mark year since Madeleine vanished”
His wife added: “It’s funny in some ways, because you kind of think it’s just another day, really, almost like a media landmark than anything else. But I think we’ve maybe underestimated it, and it’s probably more significant than we felt. I don’t think we’ll know until the morning really what feels right.”
NEWSWEEK: “TABLOID FODDER - One year after Madeleine McCann disappeared in Portugal, lurid reporting continues to cash in on her disappearance.
She’s so famous that she only needs one name: Maddie.
Or Maddy?
Her image—those trusting eyes, that innocent grin, the shiny blond hair—haunts Britons, who may think that by now, they’ve heard everything about Madeleine McCann, the young British girl who vanished from a holiday resort in Portugal’s Algarve one year ago Saturday. Her disappearance is probably the most intensely followed mystery in modern British history. Tabloid sales skyrocket with coverage of even the most minor details, which could be why Kelvin MacKenzie, the former editor of The Sun, has called it “the most significant story of my lifetime.”

Kate clearly says that a crime has been commited and a four year old girl has been taken from her bed. What hope have the media got of getting their facts right when her mother gets them wrong.

“”"McCanns after Murat..
The McCanns look for answers in Robert Murat, they are convinced of his involvement in the disappearance of their daughter. The multimillionaire that supports the expenses with lawyers and the private detectives of the Spanish agency “Método 3″ went on purpose to Algarve to know the British.
Brian Kennedy offered to help him, although he was unable to explain how.
Why? Why does he believe that Robert or his mother Jennifer might have seen someone on the night of 3rd of May in the area of the Ocean Club. He was
prepared to pay to the best technicians to draw a photofit of a possible suspect.
Saying one thing and then saying another he ended to say that Kate and Gerry
believe that he is innocent and they never came publicly to accuse him but he
insisted that Murat might remember some important detail to help them find Madeleine.
The JN knows that Murat did not accept the help of the multimillionaire.
On the contrary he was upset with the questions that were made and with the
insistence of the multimillionaire that wanted him to remember the night of
the disappearance, when Murat always said that he spent the night in his mother’s house, Jennifer, in Praia da Luz.
The meeting - a dinner that Brian Kennedy asked to be discreet and far away
from the eyes of the press - took place in the end of last year at a house of Murat’s relatives in Burgau (Vila do Bispo). At the dinner were present Murat and Kennedy,
the respective lawyers, Jennifer Murat and the aunt and uncle of Murat.
After dinner was Brian Kennedy that finished the conversation. He could not
explain why three friends of the couple, belonging to the group “Tapas 7″ came publicly saying that they saw Robert Murat in the area of the Ocean Club in the
night of 3 of May and he (Kennedy) ended to enter in contradiction.
Francisco Pagarete does not confirm this meeting but the JN knows that the
PJ is aware and that they monitored the steps of Kennedy and the detectives of Método 3 very closely. According to the lawyer one year after the disappearance
of Maddie, Murat “still does not understand how his name was involved in the case”. “Everything is very strange” says the lawyer regretting that ” a person
was involved in this story without having nothing to do with it”.”"”

Kelvin MacKenzie, the former editor of The Sun, has called the Madeleine McCann story “the most significant story of my lifetime.” But does he say why?
The reason the Madeleine McCann story is the most significant story is because the parents were named suspects. But that is only the second reason and the parents may be proved innocent in law. The first reason is because of the suspicious behaviours of the McTeam (of parents, their lawyers, Mc 3, The Findfund and some of the Tapas 7). Suspicious behaviours the public are all aware of because they occured following the disappearance of Madeleine.
Setting up the findfund business in speedygonzalez time
Courting and cornering media in the search
Publicising and trademarking Madeleine’s coloboma
Publishing photos of Madeleine at different ages
The support of so many prestigious and powerful people
Until recently the refusal to admit that leaving young children alone is wrong
Having and changing spokepeople before and after they were given suspect status
Conduct over sightings
Refusal to answer police questions
Hiring Pinochet’s lawyer
Blaming PJ, MW, lack of Amber Alert system, buggy and internet forums
Changing stories and absurd sightings
Giving odd and often silly explanations for their behaviour, eg rotting meat, no buggy
Conducting a parallel investigation using the equally secret Mc 3 to question witnesses
Calling on police witnesses in a police investigation to contact suspects.
There are probably many, many more examples of suspicious behaviours. Even if they are wholly innocent of having anything to do with their daughter’s disappearance, their suspicious behaviours will remain in public.

I don’t think the case is in any way near closure. I would say the exact opposite. Just imagine after 25 interviews a two hour documentary, a lot of spin from Clarrie, demonstrates that the McC are fighting to the bitter end. If they thought the case was near closure, they would have kept their mouths shut and we wouldn’t have heard a word about it. But no, desperation for the public’s sympathy is very significant.
———————————————————
Asking people to provide them with information already supplied to the police, on a british telephone number, certainly suggests that the McCanns are so desperate that they are prepared to alienate the British police forces involved.
They have already had a polite smack down on police practise in missing persons cases; this is inviting rather less polite action.
The PJ are continuing to gather evidence…

Sorry Google Translation
McCann will be charged: negligence or manslaughter
According to a source of the Public Ministry (MP) in Lisbon, Kate and Gerry McCann may be called upon to respond before a Portuguese court for the crime of negligence, not yet confirmed if the couple is also accused of homicide.
The prosecution and investigators of the Judicial Police have agreed to meet formally in a few weeks to decide what are the accusations made against the couple.
According to the same source, the secret of justice around the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine will continue until August, after which passed the vacations, the MP would be ready to move towards the trial.
After receiving the final results of the expert remains of blood and biological and synthetic residues, investigators have seen their line of investigation but confirmed the Public Ministry would like to play prudence in court because, given the lawyers hired by Kate and Gerry McCann It will not have to leave room for any doubt.
The results reveal an almost perfect similarity between the genetic profile of blood found in the Renault Scenic rented by McCann and Madeleine. The results were identical to those made on the remnants of blood found in the apartment at the Ocean Club.
Even if the remains were in good quality and results no longer doubt the investigators, the process used for the analysis-Low Copy Number - is disputed by some experts, even if the United Kingdom “Crown Prosecution Service” maintenance its confidence in the process.
4 burglaries around the McCann case
According to Martin Brunt, sent to Sky News in Portugal, two friends that Kate and Gerry McCann have left in Praia da Luz, the Anglican priest Haynes Hubbard and his wife were the loser robbed laptop that contained several documents report the case with Madeleine.
The computer contained the notes on which the priest was based in preparing the sermon for ceremonies intended to indicate the first anniversary of the disappearance of Madeleine, but also all the personal and confidential e-mails exchanged with Kate and Gerry McCann, even after their departure the United Kingdom. The burglar also washed away by a mobile phone containing all the phone numbers private, including those of parents of Madeleine.
The burglary was not the first to persons linked, directly or indirectly to the case McCann: in a London hotel, a journalist also saw his phone and his laptop caught. Despite a portfolio and a few thousand euros on the table at night, the burglar had preferred to take the computer containing the only copy filtered to the media a report of the intelligence services dealing with the case Madeleine. The section has never been completed.
Another victim of burglary, a holiday of Belgian origin residing in Spain, saw his camera containing pictures taken during his holiday in Praia da Luz, disappeared from his home. The burglar had not hesitated to enter the house during the night, when everyone was asleep on the floor, and despite the presence of objects of inestimable value, the camera was the only victim.
More recently, Portugal, housing similar to that belonging to the inspector to Gonçalo Amaral also been targeted by burglars. According to a source from local police, the burglar would have the wrong house, finally taking the documents.

Sorry to go back to this but, according to an article on Sky News, the service in Rothley was led by Rev. Rob Gladstone and the Rev. Haynes Hubbard is in Praia da Luz (doesn’t say whether he led the service). I quote the relevant part (although the rest is reasonably interesting):
“The parents of Madeleine McCann have attended a church service to mark the first anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance - as police in Portugal refuse to rule out bringing charges against them.
Kate and Gerry after the church serviceKate and Gerry were joined by members of the community at the Anglican Parish Church of St Mary and St John near their home in Rothley, Leicestershire.
Led by the Rev Rob Gladstone, prayers were said for the four-year-old and other missing children.
….
A special service will be held in its little whitewashed church at 6.30pm on Saturday evening, where it is understood a letter written by Kate McCann will be read out to the faithful.
Gerry McCann’s brother John will represent the family at the church, where Madeleine’s grieving parents prayed for her return.
Madeleine missing for a year.
Father Haynes Hubbard said: “The service is a continuation of what we have been doing since Madeline was taken. It’s to continue to pray that she will be released, that she will be brought home.
“There will be prayers here and all over the world I’m sure, to say in the face of this evil, that this evil hasn’t broken us, and hasn’t won - and somewhere out there a little girl needs to come home.”
Asked about Kate’s letter, he said: “Kate and Gerry were part of our family and even though they’re not here, they are still part of our family and their prayers are our prayers - and their tears are our tears.”"

‘That seems to include the police who, according to Sky (online) don’t know whether they will press charges or exonerate the Mcs.’
——————————————
Alipio Ribeiro said nothing about exonerating the McCanns; what he actually said was reported at my post 193.
But since Maria didn’t notice it I will repeat it:
‘Portugal’s most senior detective says police are still gathering evidence in their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Alipio Ribeiro has told the Portuguese news agency Lusa that officials have not yet decided whether to bring charges or drop the investigation.
Madeleine vanished from the resort town of Praia da Luz in southern Portugal one year ago today.
Police have named her parents and a local man as formal suspects in the case.
“At this stage nothing has been determined regarding possible charges or closing the case,” Ribeiro said.
“The PJ continues to gather and analyse all available evidence,” Ribeiro was quoted as saying.’
