Madeleine McCann: Let Us Pray, Light The Way, It’s A Year Today
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN (front page): “MADDIE: 1 YEAR ON”
A year of headlines, sensation and speculation. A year of Watching The Parents.
DAILY MIRROR (front page): “LIGHT A CANDLE FOPR OUR MADDIE”
And leave a chair empty at the dinner table, too? And when should the candle be lit?
“9:15 tonight… A YEAR ON”
Did you light a candle a year after 7/11, the end of the Falklands War, the Hillsborough disaster?
Did the Mirror forget to tell you to?
It is “A DAY TO PRAY”.
FIONA PHILLIPS: “A year ago today Madeleine McCann’s mummy and daddy, Kate and Gerry, became victims of the most colossal crime.”
Mummy and daddy… Are Mirror readers being asked to empathise with Madeleine? The fact is, it could. It could happen to any of us.
Grip hands tighter. Avoid Portugal. Spread the anxiety. The rare crime of a chid abduction, as Phillips supposes, might find a victim in your child.
I fill my car up with petrol and sometimes leave the children in the back when I go and pay for it. It could happen to me.
I’ve seen mums chatting to friends in supermarkets and on busy pavements while their children wander off. It could happen to them.
It happened to the McCanns in a child-friendly, family holiday village. It could happen to you.
YORKSHIRE POST: “The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has written a special prayer to mark the first anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance.”
Church of England PR?
Father God, we pray for Madeleine McCann Keep her safe and take away her fear and anxiety May your holy angels guard and protect her We pray that she may be reunited with those who love her Give hope to all her loved ones And hear our cry for her safe return We offer our prayer in the name of the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord. Amen.
DAILY TELEGRPAH: “McCann haters - the lowest of the low”
SIMON HEFFER:
Just when one thinks one’s capacity for shock is exhausted, one reads some of the charming, expletive-rich comments sent to Kate and Gerry McCann in the last year since their daughter Madeleine evaporated in Portugal. I know some nutters are convinced they killed her, which I am equally convinced is balderdash: but what shocks me is that even those who accept that someone else abducted her cannot resist delving into the still-open wound the McCanns have, and attacking them for their supposed negligence on that evening last May.
I try to envisage the sense of smug satisfaction these people have when the letter is posted or the send button pressed on the email: but, despite a long study of human degeneracy, I simply can’t.
THE SCOTSMAN: “In the shadow of the bogeyman”
There is no such comfort for my children’s generation. They know the worst can happen because it did. The bogeyman came and took Madeleine from her bed. And for weeks on end they could not turn their heads nor take a breath without being reminded that he had. The press picked up our fear and shone it back at us.
THE GUARDIAN: “Services to mark year since Madeleine vanished”
His wife added: “It’s funny in some ways, because you kind of think it’s just another day, really, almost like a media landmark than anything else. But I think we’ve maybe underestimated it, and it’s probably more significant than we felt. I don’t think we’ll know until the morning really what feels right.”
NEWSWEEK: “TABLOID FODDER - One year after Madeleine McCann disappeared in Portugal, lurid reporting continues to cash in on her disappearance.
She’s so famous that she only needs one name: Maddie.
Or Maddy?
Her image—those trusting eyes, that innocent grin, the shiny blond hair—haunts Britons, who may think that by now, they’ve heard everything about Madeleine McCann, the young British girl who vanished from a holiday resort in Portugal’s Algarve one year ago Saturday. Her disappearance is probably the most intensely followed mystery in modern British history. Tabloid sales skyrocket with coverage of even the most minor details, which could be why Kelvin MacKenzie, the former editor of The Sun, has called it “the most significant story of my lifetime.”

I think most posters following the MM threads are familiar with the following:
‘Eileen McCann, 69, thinks it is the only way she could have been snatched from the holiday apartment without her screams of alarm attracting attention.
She said: “I believe whoever took her gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking.
“If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
However, they might be less familiar with the Royal College of Anaesthetists statement of 13 Sep 2007 on just how hard it is to do that:
‘Despite the increasing numbers of reports of people being gassed in motor-homes or commercial trucks in France, and the warning put out by the Foreign Office for travellers to be aware of this danger, this College remains of the view that this is a myth.
It is the view of the College that it would not be possible to render someone unconscious by blowing ether, chloroform or any of the currently used volatile anaesthetic agents, through the window of a motor-home without their knowledge, even if they were sleeping at the time. Ether is an extremely pungent agent and a relatively weak anaesthetic by modern standards and has a very irritant affect on the air passages, causing coughing and sometimes vomiting. It takes some time to reach unconsciousness, even if given by direct application to the face on a cloth, and the concentration needed by some sort of spray administered directly into a room would be enormous. The smell hangs around for days and would be obvious to anyone the next day. Even the more powerful modern volatile agents would need to be delivered in tankerloads of carrier gas or by a large compressor. Potential agents, such as the one used by the Russians in the Moscow siege are few in number and difficult to obtain. Moreover, these drugs would be too expensive for the average thief to use.
The other important point to remember is that general anaesthetics are potentially very dangerous, which is why they are only administered in the UK by doctors who have undergone many years of postgraduate training in the subject and who remain with the unconscious patient throughout the anaesthetic. Unsupervised patients are likely to die from obstruction of the airway by their tongues falling back. In the Moscow seige approximately 20% of the people died, many probably from airway obstruction directly related to the agent used.
If there was a totally safe, odourless, potent, cheap anaesthetic agent available to thieves for this purpose it is likely the medical profession would know about it and be investigating its use in anaesthetic practice. ‘

What , you mean cut and PLANTED? It”s all too much for me, how could anyone know the McCanns would hire another car 25 days later?
no, i don’t think planted, i really do think it ludicrous to suggest the portugese police would frame the mccanns.
if the pj only found hair without the follicles then it suggests hair that’s been cut off somehow, ie trapped in a zip or something like that.
we”ll discuss in more depth later if you are about.
if i’m still about.

JO, just seen this on the site you posted
All the Tapas employees were sacked from the Ocean Club. The former cook from the Tapas Bar gives her story about what happened on that night. The McCanns never left the apartment after the alarm was raised, all the police, locals, and employees from the Tapas bar and Ocean Club never saw the Parents searching for their own daughter. More than 200 employees were interviewed by the PJ.
Wonder if it’s true ?

Anger Over ‘Grotesque’ Madeleine Doll, 03 May 2008
Alex Watts, Sky News Online in Praia da Luz
Updated:16:42, Saturday May 03, 2008
Tempers have flared outside the village church in Praia da Luz over a “grotesque” mannequin of how missing Madeleine McCann would look at 18.
The 6ft tall plastic doll was put alongside a wall of Madeleine photographs by a Brazilian artist, who says she supports the hunt for the missing girl.
But a row soon broke out as angry locals turned on Josefa Maria dos Santos, and accused her of being “sick” and “grotesque”.
Nancy Thompson, landlady of The Bull pub opposite the church, shouted at the woman to remove the doll, as passers-by tried to calm the situation.
She shouted at her in Portuguese: “It’s horrible, who gave you permission to put that there? It’s a disgrace! It’s sick!”
The artist looked shocked, but would not back down. “That is your opinion,” she kept saying.
The argument, which happened at 2.30 pm today in the blazing sun, took place as members of the McCann family looked on.
A clearly incensed Ms Thompson spoke to Gerry McCann’s brother John, and asked him what he thought of the doll.
Mr McCann, who had flown in from Glasgow to attend a church service on the one-year anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance, tried to pacify the situation.
He said: “It wouldn’t be my choice, but the lady’s intentions are good.”
But despite the diplomacy, it was clear the family were upset by the doll - which was dressed in a blue and white track suit, with a striped hat similar to the ones worn by the child.
It had a blonde wig and its right eye was painted with the same distinctive mark as Madeleine.
When they first saw it as they were standing in the church yard, Madeleine’s aunt Trisha Cameron looked sickened and shocked.
She told Sky News Online: “I hope that’s not Madeleine!”
The Brazilian artist claimed the doll represented what Madeleine would like when she was 18 or 19-years-old, and said she had put it there to draw attention to the hunt for the missing girl.
She had also installed a wall of Madeleine press cuttings and photographs, and claimed the doll - or “boneca” - had been put there with the McCann family’s “authority”.
An explanation in Portuguese about the mannequin read: “It is very important to remember that you cannot exist as an adult without having been a child.
“Return Madeleine please.”
One section of the wall display, plastered with articles from Portuguese newspapers and magazines, included pictures of the young girl subtitled: “Madeleine photographs from happy days.”
But Ms Thompson was furious, and told Sky News Online before the argument: “It’s absolutely unbelievable! It’s grotesque, it’s horrible. You wait until catch up with her.
“She was banging those posts in at 5.30am in the morning and woke some of the residents up.
“She says she’s got the family’s permission to put the posters up, but who gave her permission to put that doll up?
“I’ve got a good mind to take it down! Or call the police and get them to take it down.”
Dear me!!! you can also find the article in the Mail

The Department’s Guidance on Criteria for Issuing AMBER Alerts follows:
“Law enforcement must confirm that an abduction has taken place
(This means that someone must have witnessed the abduction of the child.)”

No, I don”t believe in an abduction and the way Kate tried to turn Madeleine crying
around to suggest she might have “seen something”, is disgraceful. Let”s hope Mrs.
Fenn and the OC can disprove Gerry”s claim that the children slept soundly from 7.30pm.

The lawyer of former CID Inspector Gonçalo Amaral, Paulo Santos, explains why apparently someone vilified Amaral’s reputation in order to remove him from the Madeleine McCann Investigation. The lawyer of Robert Murat, Francisco Pagarete explains what happened to Murat’s life and job: how is site was hacked, how Murat’s e-mail address was used by someone, and about the GPS devices encountered under Murat’s family cars. Malinka had is car set on fire, and the word ‘fala’ - talk written next to the car.

I think the Press will turn on the McCann”s now. All along, they complained that while
in PDL they were given a daily “Press Briefing” by CM……… nothing to stop them
doing their own investigative journalism though was there.? Sky News just talking to Murat”s Lawyer, he is saying there is no evidence against him.
I”m signing off for a while, catch up with you later.
