Madeleine McCann: Let Us Pray, Light The Way, It’s A Year Today
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN (front page): “MADDIE: 1 YEAR ON”
A year of headlines, sensation and speculation. A year of Watching The Parents.
DAILY MIRROR (front page): “LIGHT A CANDLE FOPR OUR MADDIE”
And leave a chair empty at the dinner table, too? And when should the candle be lit?
“9:15 tonight… A YEAR ON”
Did you light a candle a year after 7/11, the end of the Falklands War, the Hillsborough disaster?
Did the Mirror forget to tell you to?
It is “A DAY TO PRAY”.
FIONA PHILLIPS: “A year ago today Madeleine McCann’s mummy and daddy, Kate and Gerry, became victims of the most colossal crime.”
Mummy and daddy… Are Mirror readers being asked to empathise with Madeleine? The fact is, it could. It could happen to any of us.
Grip hands tighter. Avoid Portugal. Spread the anxiety. The rare crime of a chid abduction, as Phillips supposes, might find a victim in your child.
I fill my car up with petrol and sometimes leave the children in the back when I go and pay for it. It could happen to me.
I’ve seen mums chatting to friends in supermarkets and on busy pavements while their children wander off. It could happen to them.
It happened to the McCanns in a child-friendly, family holiday village. It could happen to you.
YORKSHIRE POST: “The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has written a special prayer to mark the first anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance.”
Church of England PR?
Father God, we pray for Madeleine McCann Keep her safe and take away her fear and anxiety May your holy angels guard and protect her We pray that she may be reunited with those who love her Give hope to all her loved ones And hear our cry for her safe return We offer our prayer in the name of the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord. Amen.
DAILY TELEGRPAH: “McCann haters - the lowest of the low”
SIMON HEFFER:
Just when one thinks one’s capacity for shock is exhausted, one reads some of the charming, expletive-rich comments sent to Kate and Gerry McCann in the last year since their daughter Madeleine evaporated in Portugal. I know some nutters are convinced they killed her, which I am equally convinced is balderdash: but what shocks me is that even those who accept that someone else abducted her cannot resist delving into the still-open wound the McCanns have, and attacking them for their supposed negligence on that evening last May.
I try to envisage the sense of smug satisfaction these people have when the letter is posted or the send button pressed on the email: but, despite a long study of human degeneracy, I simply can’t.
THE SCOTSMAN: “In the shadow of the bogeyman”
There is no such comfort for my children’s generation. They know the worst can happen because it did. The bogeyman came and took Madeleine from her bed. And for weeks on end they could not turn their heads nor take a breath without being reminded that he had. The press picked up our fear and shone it back at us.
THE GUARDIAN: “Services to mark year since Madeleine vanished”
His wife added: “It’s funny in some ways, because you kind of think it’s just another day, really, almost like a media landmark than anything else. But I think we’ve maybe underestimated it, and it’s probably more significant than we felt. I don’t think we’ll know until the morning really what feels right.”
NEWSWEEK: “TABLOID FODDER - One year after Madeleine McCann disappeared in Portugal, lurid reporting continues to cash in on her disappearance.
She’s so famous that she only needs one name: Maddie.
Or Maddy?
Her image—those trusting eyes, that innocent grin, the shiny blond hair—haunts Britons, who may think that by now, they’ve heard everything about Madeleine McCann, the young British girl who vanished from a holiday resort in Portugal’s Algarve one year ago Saturday. Her disappearance is probably the most intensely followed mystery in modern British history. Tabloid sales skyrocket with coverage of even the most minor details, which could be why Kelvin MacKenzie, the former editor of The Sun, has called it “the most significant story of my lifetime.”

But IF Clarence was in PdL on May 3, it is just so appallingly suspicious.

Of course the real anniversary was probably yesterday.

A partial version of the stolen “intel” report was published on the Daily Mirror site.
As I understand it,the original author then presented another report, because the version on the Mirror site was garbled and made little sense - due to the fact whole passages of the original were encrypted.
I just read the second version on the David Icke forums. It makes for very disturbing reading.

Stevo has always said that the story was all ready to go in the Telegraph from one minute past midnight on May 4…at a time when police had only recently been alerted, and no-on could know whether the little girl might be found hiding, or asleep somewhere.

Anyone for tennis:
I think the Clarence in PdL thing was from 24Horas.
There was a little bit on another site which quoted 24Horas as saying:
“The PJ is analysing the depositions made in England by the seven friends that dined with the McCanns in the Tapas Bar. They are also waiting that the Leicester police send the depositions of more than three dozens of tourists that were in the area when the child disappeared and also the new declarations of Clarence Mitchell and Justine McGuiness that were in Praia da Luz on that day.”
Do you think that after the documentary the other night the pj may be any closer to arresting the evil pair? I cant beleive these pair are still supported by so many people and the press seem to be all pro mccann again as well
M and A
Just been watching the news , aand Pj have said there is no arrest or dropping of charges imminent

Batman
we hoped to go by the end of the year, not so sure now.
we have the 2 little monsters to consider, cannot see mrs.B putting them into quarantine and then subjecting them to a long flight in the cargo hold, a tender point here.
The late Princes nanny was delivered of a little girl on thursday she is calling her Lerato (sweet loving heart) after him.

Hi Jo! Have been really really busy - and only occasionally checked to see what was going on. Am completely out of the loop regarding any major developments, but get the distinct impression that the McCanns are no longer regarded as ’squeeky clean’.
Am intrigued to hear that Pinkie was in PdL on 3rd May. But not really surprised. Remember it was international headline news less than 8 hours after the alarm was first raised and well before the local search was over!

“THE pub (Joe Peoples’s Bar) owned by the grandmother of Madeleine McCann was broken into and ransacked just after she visited the area at the weekend. In the early hours of St Patrick’s Day (March 15 ) morning, thieves rammed the back door of the McCann pub in the village of St Johnston, Co Donegal, with a car before tearing it apart inside and making away with almost its entire stock of alcohol.”

Yes absolutely, I remember who was out there And (only going from memory) Clarence Mitchell was there on 3rd May. This crime was commited on 2nd May. Justine arrived on 3rd Mayalso along with Clarence. I’,m sure there is a picture of clarence in the wings when theyt are doing their plea. It may have been removed of course.

Evening Châtelaine.
BBC news just now certainly a lot ‘cooler’ than before.
Even mention that our delightful ones are suspects.
Uncle John’s comments about thanking all in PdL and asking that M be safely returned to her family is just sounding so disingenuous now. Flogging a dead horse.

If the Pink Panther was in PdL on 3rd May, that could explain the quickly organised defence network.
Was he there on 2nd May I wonder?
Has Clarance been spinning to save his own neck too?
If Clarrie was there earlier that kinda rules out the swinging theory. I mean you couldn’t , could you? Mind you it’s a weird tale? Perhaps he had a pink cuddle cat outfit that Kate liked?
It’s starting to get good again.
Do you like pink Maria?

Here is the translate article from SOSMadeleine where there is no mention of the pub…I think it is on sky as well but not sure
“According to Martin Brunt, the envoy of Sky News in Portugal, two of the friends that Kate and Gerry McCann have left in Praia da Luz, the Anglican priest Haynes Hubbard and his wife were burglarized, losing the laptop which contained several documents in connection with the Madeleine case.
The computer contained the notes on which the priest based himself to prepare the sermon for the ceremonies intended to mark the first anniversary of the disappearance of Madeleine, but also all personal and confidential emails exchanged with Kate and Gerry McCann, even after their departure in the United Kingdom. The burglar also took a cellphone containing all the private phone numbers, included there those of Madeleine’s parents.
This burglary is not the first that happened to people who are, direct or indirectly, involved with the McCann case: in a hotel in London, a journalist had his cellphone and his laptop stolen. In spite of a wallet and a few thousands of euros on the night stand, the burglar had preferred to carry away the computer containing the only copy filtered towards the media of a report of the intelligence services concerning the Madeleine case. The article remained unfinished forever.
Another victim of a burglary, a holiday maker of Belgian origin, residing in Spain, had his camera stolen, containing the images taken during his holidays with Praia da Luz, from his home. The burglar had not hesitated to be penetrate into the house during the night, while everyone slept on the floor above, and in spite of the presence of objects of priceless value, the photo camera was the only victim.
More recently, in Portugal, the neighbouring house to that of inspector Gonçalo Amaral was also the target of burglars. According to a source of the local police, the burglar would have been mistaken in house, ultimately stealing only documents.”

Hello
And what would you like tot tell us?
well as im the newbie perhaps you could tell me something? I only came accross this site by accident but it looks like it might be interesting. You all seem to have a lot to say. I’ve been watching for a day or 2 and i dont want to suffer at the hands of some of the more nasty posters. I read earlier that Clarrie was in PDL onthe 3rd may, has anyone got a link for this?
May 3rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
whole tone of the ‘first year anniversary’ is rather flat. Certainly haven’t heard the word ‘abduction’ even once all day. Only hear about it being one year since the ‘disappearance’……………..
Get the impression that all is not as cosy as it was in Fleet Street for our fragrant ones.

I think (hope) the PJ have a pretty good handle on the situation. I wonder how many people will eventually end up in court?
