Madeleine McCann: McCanns Cleared, Shannon Matthews Fund And The Maddy Card
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews
DAILY MIRROR: “McCANNS ‘IN CLEAR’”
Kate and Gerry McCann will be formally cleared as suspects in daughter Madeleine’s disappearance by August, their lawyer said yesterday.
Fact. Now the Portuguese police can find Madeleine? And the McCanns can return to Portugal.
Rogerio Alves said detectives in Portugal had finally admitted they have no evidence against the couple and were preparing to lift their arguido status. But he also warned the move could signal the end of the year-long hunt for the four-year-old.
But the Portuguese police are useless, right? And the McCanns have Metodo 3?
But McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “We don’t want the case to remain unsolved.”
DAILY MAIL: “McCanns’ status as suspects in Madeleine’s disappearance ‘will be lifted by August’”
This August. Fact.
Says Rogerio Alves: “I believe that by August the police will close the case and lift arguido status. I believe it is a very strong possibility.”
Believe. Possibility. Fact.
ROUNDTOWNNEWS (Spain): “Mass of Balloons for Madeleine”
Skies over the Costa Blanca were clouded by a mass of colour, to mark the first anniversary of the disappearance of British infant, Madeleine McCann…
Yellow…
Meanwhile, Rob and Lisa, owners of ‘The Card Place’ in Benimar, decided to make their own touching dedication to Madeleine, by launching an abundance of bright balloons into the sunny Costa Blanca sky… Last weekend, crowds gathered to witness the event, as 160 balloons sailed from outside of the store, reminding residents throughout the area that the search for a little girl must continue. Lisa concluded with an emotional message which reflected the thoughts of all of those with any knowledge of the case. She said, “Although the investigation has gone on for sometime, Madeline has yet to be found. Members of the public should be encouraged to continue to look for Madeleine, and remain conscientious in the protection of their own children.”
And get all their cards at The Card Palce, ask for it by name. Is there a missing child card?
DEWSBURY REPORTER: “Trustees meet over Shannon cash fund options”
RESIDENTS of the housing estate where Shannon Matthews disappeared are to choose how cash raised for her appeal will be spent.
A plasma telly?
This week the six trustees for the Help Find Shannon Fund and local community support group Pathfinder, which managed the collection of the money, met to decide what to do with the remaining cash.
Family, friends, neighbours, local businesses and community groups donated money into the Help Find Shannon Fund – much like the one for missing youngster Madeleine McCann – during the 24 days the nine-year-old was missing.
So give the money to the Find Madeleine fund, easy?

When I knew Nobby he was a couple of years older than myself. I moved away from Edinburgh and lost touch with him. When the BCR had their 1st hit articles on the group began appearing in the papers, with a profile of the band members.
Imagine my surprise to find that in the intervening years, I had aged in the normal fashion but time for Nobby had run backwards - whereas he had been a couple of years older than me at one time, he was now apparently a few years younger than I.
Even in the 70’s, spin was king !!!

This has absolutely no relevance whatsoever to the thread, but DuncanR’s review of the Bay City Rollers as a blues band struck a chord.
Ladies and Gentlemen, drumroll, I give you, drumroll, Greg Allman and Donny Osmond.

It was good here for a little while today then it rained heavily and there was thunder too. I heard it was really good down South today and I imagine most people are enjoying the weather like you say. Dull and rainy up here though at present.

I used to like the BCR. In fact, I used to know the original singer with the Bay City Rollers (Nobby Clarke).

hi, no worries, i owe replies too i’m sure, thanks for taking the time to answer, i had forgotten,
Could the McGuckins sue the McCanns for their treatment in Portugal and subsequent curtailment of holiday? If it happened as they say-and they were not comatosed through alcohol-they are paying the price for the Mccanns as Brits on holiday are now treated with overcaution as Portuguese don’t want ‘another 3 maddies’
i wouldn’t have thought so no. i think the greater damage is to other people whose children go missing unfortunately.
‘Also the cadaver dogs. If M died in the appartment by abductor/whoever-the scent of death could have been on articles subsequently transported in Renault-meaning that body didn’t necessarily travel in car.’
yes, that’s possible, it seems the dogs can smell cadaver smell even if it’s quite old, it seems the smell never goes away.
‘BTW-if ever I go to Portugal I will have my child photographed with me every 20 mins timed and dated on camera-sipping a diet coke-and I’ll defo not put a braid in her hair-I shall have witnesses at every meal time and have her DNA’d on entry to any creche-and on the way out to avoid any confusion.’
yes but the times on the camera wouldn’t really work as proof as you can set the camera to any time you want, or not. i think if you take the batteries out the timer also stops working and if you don’t reprogram it then it can show any time really. so camera time as on the photo is really no proof at all of anything much. you’re saying though that the mccanns behaviour has caused a lot of paranoia and knock on effects , which may be unwarranted ? ridiculous really but i don’t think you can sue then.
‘Then again I may just go to Greece!!!!’
i’ve never been there, i think some of the tapas group had been there just a few weeks before they went to pdl, i thought then, they have an awful lot of holidays, but maybe that’s just me ‘cos i haven’t had one for a long time and maybe it’s normal for such busy professionals to go on holidays several times a year, who knows.

As for that Sad SOS picked up over here - some of the people who knew him were ones that contacted the authorities. One man was even quoted who knew him as saying ‘he seemed like a nice man’ — what a cover he had to find his victims playing Santa Claus and dealing with children over here!
As an aside regarding registers for sex offenders, most states have their own now that the public can access. There was a big outcry by some people saying their civil rights were being violated when the registries first got started for the public to have access to but they are worthwhile to a point. Unfortunately, all so-called sex offenders are lumped together and you find for example someone maybe 18 who had sex with a girl friend who was underage and parents have them charged. They get lumped in there also if found guilty.
When you think about it, Chenier, how does one recognize a paedolphile? Look at all the Catholics who would look on pride when their sons became altar boys and now dear old Father so and so has been convicted of child abuse. Or the nice businessman down the street so friendly to the neighbors and children all loved him and he takes a little girl and rapes and kills her and leaves her body in the desert. When my boys were little I took them to a well known pediatrican’s office, where there were five doctors in practice together. I had one I stuck with and would only ask for him and about eight years I picked up the paper and in the headlines one of them had just been picked up and charged with a computer full of child porn at his home. He is serving time, of course. They come from all walks of life!
——————————————————
Perhaps you would cease using the phrase ‘child porn’. As the Internet Watch Foundation points out:
‘Please note that “child pornography” and “child porn” are not acceptable terms. The use of such language acts to legitimise images which are not pornography, rather, they are permanent records of children being sexually abused and, as such, should be referred to as child sexual abuse images.’
Since you post at some length regarding child sexual abuse images I would have thought that you would make some effort to avoid using language which legitimises such images.
I don’t think that I can recognise paedophiles, or Catholics or Protestants or, for that matter, Chelsea fans. I do think that organised activity, such as that of the Internet Watch Foundation, and that of Interpol, is essential to trying to reduce the vast numbers of images of child sexual abuse which are available on the Web.
It would help if the US did not make it so easy for the creators and users of these images, but it seems that no-one in the US is prepared to pursue that point.
And at least, thanks to Interpol, it appears that at least one creator of such images is under arrest in the US…

I too left home when I was younger. I remember it was a warm sunny afternoon when I made the decision to run away. Later, however, when I thought of the pain my parents must have been going through I felt guilty and decided to go back.
I remember the big hand was pointing at the 10 and the little hand at the 5 when I walked back into the house.

Probably not a good idea; Deadly Mates would complain about it, since they are so keen on:
‘encouraging safer driving among young people and getting young drivers to slow down in the car’.
I would have thought that Mates could at least help with the second half but who knows with young people nowadays?

There are indeed parallel universes, proven by the Copenhagen Experiment, the EPR paradox and the Double Slit experiment, these are factual experiments under controlled conditions.

Porkies?
No, its just that the 100,000 figure includes all those of 15 years and 11 months and 3 weeks of who didn’t come home last night………but did come home the following night. ‘Reported missing’ you see, not actually missing - there’s a difference!
————————————————
Ah, but when they go missing you don’t actually know that they are going to be back in the morning, so if you are going to send textmessages about missing children you would have to send them for all of them.
Of course, the following day you would have to send messages about all the children who have now turned up, which will make a pleasant change and also increase the text rate to one a minute…

WOMAN IN BLOOMER BLUNDER
In a surprise move, an inept housewife suspected of being a lazy good-for-nothing has had her laundry seized by the Women’s Institute.
Earlier today Gloria Smudd, 87, is believed to have been briefly overwhelmed by the contents of an over-stuffed airing cupboard. “I was briefly overwhelmed.” said Mrs Smudd, 56.
It now emerges that Mrs Smudd’s domestic habits have been for some time a subject of discussion in and around the hamlet where she lives. “It’s shocking, just shocking, commented Betsy Crudleigh-Hughne from her own spotless home, “Some of the things that she hangs on her line are very badly pegged. She almost always got her enormous knickers in a twist,” Mrs Crudleigh-Hughne went on to add.
“I think I’ve got my enormous knickers in a bit of a twist” said Mrs Smudd, 94.
It is understood that Mrs Smudd’s neglected laundry is being properly folded and put away by a team of tweedy volunteers in an attempt to prevent further accidents. “We hope this will be a lesson to her,” said Mrs Crudleigh-Hughne, “and why has she got so many screws all over the place?”

When figures regarding ‘missing’ children are bandied about one is often left with the impression that all those missing children were ‘taken’, whereas the reality is that the figure quoted includes those who have not just had a ‘night out on the tiles’, but also those who are genuinely ‘missing’ as far as their family are concerned. The ‘missing’ children, however, are not missing to themselves. They know exactly where they are. They have voluntarily (for whatever reason) chosen to remove themselves from their families and create a life on their own.
