Madeleine McCann: McCanns Cleared, Shannon Matthews Fund And The Maddy Card
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews
DAILY MIRROR: “McCANNS ‘IN CLEAR’”
Kate and Gerry McCann will be formally cleared as suspects in daughter Madeleine’s disappearance by August, their lawyer said yesterday.
Fact. Now the Portuguese police can find Madeleine? And the McCanns can return to Portugal.
Rogerio Alves said detectives in Portugal had finally admitted they have no evidence against the couple and were preparing to lift their arguido status. But he also warned the move could signal the end of the year-long hunt for the four-year-old.
But the Portuguese police are useless, right? And the McCanns have Metodo 3?
But McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “We don’t want the case to remain unsolved.”
DAILY MAIL: “McCanns’ status as suspects in Madeleine’s disappearance ‘will be lifted by August’”
This August. Fact.
Says Rogerio Alves: “I believe that by August the police will close the case and lift arguido status. I believe it is a very strong possibility.”
Believe. Possibility. Fact.
ROUNDTOWNNEWS (Spain): “Mass of Balloons for Madeleine”
Skies over the Costa Blanca were clouded by a mass of colour, to mark the first anniversary of the disappearance of British infant, Madeleine McCann…
Yellow…
Meanwhile, Rob and Lisa, owners of ‘The Card Place’ in Benimar, decided to make their own touching dedication to Madeleine, by launching an abundance of bright balloons into the sunny Costa Blanca sky… Last weekend, crowds gathered to witness the event, as 160 balloons sailed from outside of the store, reminding residents throughout the area that the search for a little girl must continue. Lisa concluded with an emotional message which reflected the thoughts of all of those with any knowledge of the case. She said, “Although the investigation has gone on for sometime, Madeline has yet to be found. Members of the public should be encouraged to continue to look for Madeleine, and remain conscientious in the protection of their own children.”
And get all their cards at The Card Palce, ask for it by name. Is there a missing child card?
DEWSBURY REPORTER: “Trustees meet over Shannon cash fund options”
RESIDENTS of the housing estate where Shannon Matthews disappeared are to choose how cash raised for her appeal will be spent.
A plasma telly?
This week the six trustees for the Help Find Shannon Fund and local community support group Pathfinder, which managed the collection of the money, met to decide what to do with the remaining cash.
Family, friends, neighbours, local businesses and community groups donated money into the Help Find Shannon Fund – much like the one for missing youngster Madeleine McCann – during the 24 days the nine-year-old was missing.
So give the money to the Find Madeleine fund, easy?

Arguido status cannot be lifted under Portuguese until the end of the investigative inquiry, therein is the large hole for the McCanns legal team to drive a large bus through.
is new evidence required to increase the status do you know ?

New PJ director takes up office.
“My friends, remember that in the fight against crime, the PJ never retreats. But if it does have to do so, it will only be to spring back stronger said Almeida Rodrigues.

World Wide Media coverage of the Reconstruction would, as I mused
yesterday, not be in the Tapas Group’s best interests.
The World Wide viewers of which, considering the so-called Timelines
of the this strange Group, would be so convulsed with laughter that the
Reconstruction Tape would be a World Wide Best Seller for Slapstick
Comedy.
IMO.

well they know what that is, they are suspected of harming their daughter and ‘occluding’ the body.
‘Would the secrecy law apply to them if the arguido status was lifted? I think so, since it works for the witnesses. What would be interesting is the files being open.’
yes, that would be interesting.

I think they are going to go to portugal for the reconstruction
They have insisted too much over their wish to slow dow if not disappear from the front pages. They are confused and contradict theselves.
They will only go IF it is a mega show….suddenly they change their mind Did they think twice about a mega show of evidence aired at a big scale??
Gerry: “It’s very difficult. We have been invited back and I think it’s… (pause) we’re concerned that the date for a possible reconstruction has been published. I don’t think world wide media attention would help that. And what additional information will be gained from such a process? We are not sure about… so that’s still under discussion….”

Who knows? I would have expected that his lawyer would have announced it if it had been formally lifted. So I expect that the “term of identity and residence” has meanwhile expired, but he has still no access to the files.

Agree there should be a register of sex offenders. Once they offend it is IMHO they often do it again. Look at the case where Australia sent back to UK one, and he did it again. The Mccanns will have to face the truth one day though about what happened to Maddie. If she has not yet appeared on any bad sites on the internet she is either with the Angels or she is in bad hands. It sure looks like the parents are protected somewhat though. They have been very clever in hiding facts should anything have happened to Maddie.

It has always been my understanding that the secrecy law is the same for arguidos and for witnesses. Only that arguidos have of course additional information, because they must have been presented the “evidence” the police holds against them.
It’s still puzzling for me that the entire files could be made public. You wouldn’t expect that for example the content of private phone calls which had been tapped could be made public, in case no charges were brought.

May 10th, 2008 at 10:15 am
After Kate and Gerry were made arguidos, last September, the UK diplomatic services in Portugal pressurised the Portuguese authorities so that the couple could leave, giving their guarantee that Madeleine’s parents would return as soon as the police requested them to. Eight months later the diplomats are no longer in their posts and the promise has been forgotten from the British side. (Joana”s article)

A claim by Mr Alves is not a statement by the PJ.
His…”I believe” tends to make me very much doubt his ability to produce
a document in which the PJ may have made such a decision.

I can see what Dr. Watson meant I think : if the Mcs were to be charged, their status wouldn’t be arguido anymore. Andif they aren’t charged, their arguido status will eventually be lifted too, probably. Which doesn’t mean the case will not be reopened later on, if more evidence is found.
Is it what you meant Dr. Watson?

Meanwhile,Juan & Irene Cortes were in the streets, asking the public to sign a national and international petition for a register of child molesters.
Direct action,no marketing but 270.000 signaatures so far and more since the start of their campaign with no balloons and “fanfare”.They are not buffons. They are serious people.Hurt for ever.
Yes,Mari Luz was a special child.The little one,unexpected,after many years,after 2 boys.A joy for them.
Leaving all paedos unturned
Making people aware of the sickness of our society. They truly, sincerely do not want other children and families to suffer what they are suffering.
