Madeleine McCann: Inside The Flat, New Clues And Bad Parents
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD (front page): “MADDIE”
More?
“WORLD EXCLUSIVE: FIRST PICTURES INSIDE FLAT”
“Maddie’s bedroom”; “front door” – the flat from Madeleine McCann supposedly went missing is for hire, and the NOTW has been to look it over.
Has the NOTW turned into a holiday brochure, got into the timeshare game?
Now the rest of the flat has been redecorated and is ready to welcome more holidaying families to Portugal.
Can the flat be rented by the minute, and because of its history does it come with a surcharge? For now, the paper wants to show readers “How fiend could have kept out of sight”.
Our detailed survey of the flat reveals a host of places Maddie’s abductor could have hidden when it’s most likely he was almost caught in the act by dad Gerry as he checked on her and twins, Sean and Amelie, at 9.05pm on May 3 last year…
Details. You have noted the door and the bedroom. Now look at the inside of a “WARDROBE”.
But our on-site reconstruction proves that if the kidnapper was already in the flat, as the McCanns fear, he had a full TEN SECONDS to conceal himself after hearing Gerry open the patio doors and enter the apartment.
Although if Gerry McCann moved slower than the NOTW’s estimated speed of 2.34 mph, the kidnapper might have had ELEVEN seconds, or perhaps even TWELVE seconds to hide.
But where to hide?
And he had no fewer than FOUR boltholes to choose from—behind Madeleine’s BEDROOM DOOR, inside her roomy WARDROBE, in her parents’ nearby BEDROOM or in the family BATHROOM.
What about under the BEDS, behind the CURTAINS, on the CEILING or in the SHOWER? Or in the BED?
If one year on, the News of the World found clues, surely the detectives could have established more AT THE TIME?
Clues. the NOTW has found doors and rooms. In one year of tabloid tales, much has been established.
The stillness and silence of the apartment now is just as it would have been after the McCanns left the children asleep in bed that fateful night.
All that can heard is the gentle click, click click of cameras, the sound of a reporter scrambling for a story and the trace of last night’s prawns in garlic butter…
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Summer sun brings out first Bad Parent story”
“It’s hard to resist a little pain-free moral gloating sometimes, writes Eilis O’Hanlon.”
Like the first cuckoo of spring, the sighting of the first Bad Parent story of the summer is always a heartwarming, life-affirming event; and by a happy coincidence, the latest incarnation of this media phenomenon arrived bang on time, just as the weather started to hot up and our thoughts turned sunwards. At last we can say the holiday season has truly begun.
Normally, of course, it’s some foul-mouthed painted doxy from a sink estate in the north of England who hits the headlines after flying off to be with her Spanish waiter in the sun, leaving behind her gaggle of variously-fathered children in their council flat with only a tin of beans, the keys to the drinks cabinet, and Grand Theft Auto IV on the Playstation to occupy themselves until she gets home — if and when she can be bothered.
The Irish now see the English as the English once saw the Irish, albeit without the beer, bombs and potatoes.
The McCanns. The McGuckins.
The media phenomenon of the Bad Parent story, ritually trotted out to appease the secret guilt of other parents everywhere, is a curious one, no doubt about that. It can’t be much fun to be caught in the middle of the latest outbreak of media moralising, but it’s best just to put it down to experience and move on as quickly as you can.
THE SCOTSMAN: “McCanns ‘won’t mark’ Madeleine’s fifth birthday”
Family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said of the birthday: “Gerry will be at work and Kate will be at or around home. Sadly, for them it is just another day without Madeleine.”

“Whichever way Maddie was taken, her abduction was far too easy—and out of sight of anyone who could have helped save her.”
So…it was not like having dindin in your back garden,is it?

Thought this might interest you, the remark about Madeleine could be held captive
like in the Fritzl case is really appalling, they should be stopped from any more
publicity interviews.
Senior officer responsible for tracing missing children in England and Wales effectively ruled out introducing an “amber alert” system.
Kate and Gerry McCann had campaigned for a Europe-wide quick response system, similar to America’s immediate information broadcasts, to help find abducted children after their daughter Madeleine went missing last year.
However Deputy Assistant Commissioner Richard Bryan, of the Association of Chief Police Officers, said forces already operated an effective “child rescue alert”.
advertisement
Mr Bryan said police would rather use other investigative techniques to trace children before going public and potentially alerting abductors.
But he admitted that guidelines may be too strict as only three alerts have been issued in the past five years.
Mr Bryan added that introducing such a system on mainland Europe would have its merits, but there are substantial legislative hurdles.
Meanwhile, the McCanns yesterday said they feared their daughter could end up like the secret family Josef Fritzl, kept captive in an underground dungeon in Austria.
Mr McCann said the horrific case in the town of Amstetten, as well as that of Natascha Kampusch - who was held captive by Austrian paedophile Wolfgang Priklopil for eight years - did show it was possible his own daughter is still alive.
He added: “The last thing we would possibly ever want is for Madeleine to become a statistic, a missing child who because of her young age may grow up in another environment and never be recovered.”
In a round of interviews to raise awareness of their case as they approach the anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance from Praia da Luz, Portugal, last May, Mr McCann also attacked the “industry” which has sprung up around them.
The couple defended their decision to have such a high public profile, saying it was the only way to raise awareness about their daughter.
But Mr McCann said: “There has to be a change, there will be a change in the way we deal with the media as well.
“What happened over the last year was never sustainable and it led to a lot of rumour, myth, innuendo.
“There is too much of an industry surrounding it and not enough facts to sustain it.”
He added that the couple had no more lawsuits in the pipeline.
The McCanns also said discussions were still ongoing about the prospect of them returning to Portugal - where they remain “arguidos” or officials suspects - to help with a reconstruction.
But they expressed reservations about what they said would inevitably become a major media event.
During the interviews the couple repeatedly spoke about their regrets at their decision to leave their children asleep when they went out on the night of May 3, when Madeleine went missing but Mrs McCann said: “There’s been an evil crime committed here, a hideous crime. It’s just so important to concentrate on that.”
“We’ve got to live with ourselves for that misjudgment.”
The couple used their appearances to promote a new dedicated phone line for information about Madeleine’s whereabouts on 0845 838 4699.
Mr McCann, said: “This is a last chance to capture a lot of information which has maybe gone into the investigation and we are not privy to.”

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, a lowly lawyer sought advice from someone much higher in his food chain about how much compensation he should settle for. The Great One opined that around £1,000,000 seemed right, but if he were really pressed then £900,000 would do.
Unfotunately, the post person dispatched the letter not to the lowly lawyer but to the opposition.
Who forwarded it on with a covering note:
‘Consider yourself pressed.’

Hello there,
It seems the Australians are going to be treated tonight to a showing of the T.V.
Programme the McCanns appeared in for ITV a couple of weeks ago. It”s being
broadcast at 10.30pm and being given a Parental Guidance Rating!!!!!!!
Is there no end to their greed? What do they expect the Australian public to do to
“Search for Madeleine”, this is just another moneymaking exercise. What”s the betting
it”s shown in U.S.A. where they hope the donations will keep coming.

” the point is one of obfuscation, Carmen is supporting Murat by the back door, ”
Can’t agree with that. The case of Murat does not depend on his alibi. He would have been entitled to be there, could have given an innocent explanation.
The possible involvement on Murat ties in with completely different activities, other than hanging around or not near the appartment on May 3rd, and Carmen is one of the people who obviously know this.
May 11th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
As long a you are happy with you self appointed superiority Carmen, as for being to subtle for inhabitants of Glasgow, I wonder what the standard bearer of Napolean’s Gold Eagle thought at Waterloo, when the Glasgow born Royal Scots Greys officer relieved him of his charge, now that is subtle and from Glasgow to.

No Duncan, the point is one of obfuscation, Carmen is supporting Murat by the back door, a sweeping statement such as “And if I can’t identify him, and none of the people he has known since childhood managed to identify him as being there that night, it beats me how three, four, five or even six tourists could be so sure that this is who they saw.” may seem ok to you, to me it just says I know better than anyone else. Carmen has insinuated that the Barrister couldn’t have identified Murat, Jackanory as they say in parts of Glasgow.
——————————————————-
Carmen hasn’t ‘insinuated’ anything.
That is your speciality, as you demonstrated earlier.
What appears to stick in your craw is that Carmen got off her butt and went and looked at the terrain, whilst you favour us with edited highlights of old articles in the gutter press.
The same Press which will not now publish them because they can’t substantiate them.
A thought which concentrates the mind wonderfully when you are staring down the barrel of a libel writ.
Murat is an arguido who has had the great good sense to keep his mouth shut. It’s a pity the same can’t be said of Team McCann, who have run out of options now that our learned friends are on shark patrol.
The fact that Team McCanns tactics have exploded in their faces isn’t Murat’s fault. It isn’t anyone’s fault, other than their own…

Whatever is going on.
Our dearest Madeleine would have become five tomorrow.
And we would not have heard of her existense.
She is now part of our lives.
The only ones who are fighting for justice are the PJ.
Her riff raff parents refuse to talk, to answer 40 questions.
If they are innocent, they could answer those questions.

Not insinuating that he couldn’t have identified Murat.
Stating how easy it would be to have mistakenly identified Murat.
There’s a difference. Perhaps too subtle for Glasgow inhabitants.

……..
Why, he went mad, of course; once I’d roped him to the chair and mis-folded the road map it took next to no time for his ordered mind to become hoplessly confused. I let him go and he’s happy doing a bit of basket weaving under the apple tree. I might let him have a burnt scone later if he gets a bit peckish.

Basket weaving requires a degree of hand to eye coordination, as does ironing.
I wonder whether you may be close to solving the problem…

140 Gloria,
Yes, I read about the recovering position but I don’t know if it is true
What intrigues me is that Gerry or Kate said her bed wa still made, Gerry said it was hot and she was not covered up.
Not covered up while Jane said she thought it was odd, the girl in the zombi arms, and it was a quite cold night.
I come from a tropical country where we always sleep with a at least a thin cotton sheet on.
Maddie came from England, begin May, in Europe…

No chenny, the idea is you prove the witness is mistaken.

Ah yes, the uniquely Gandolfian approach to jurisprudence.
There are large numbers of witnesses who have known the guy from childhood, and are thus to be expected to recognise him rather better than a passing stranger, who say that they didn’t see him there that night.
And if you think that either here or in Portugual judges would not weigh that in the balance then you are barking mad, sorry, barking up the wrong tree…

“”Why do I keep reading that Madeleine slept BETWEEN the twins’ cots?
Yet here, as in some other reports, her bed is against the wall.”””
Each Newspaper has been fed different accounts by Clarence…just in case.

And this was one of the early stories, but had to be dropped when it became obvious that the bed was against the inside wall, and also because if the bed had been between the cots O would have been able to see M plus one twin, and the official story would not allow that.
May 11th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

Gloria, many many years ago before I discovered the big round iron popularly called a tumble dryer… I had a permanent avalanche of ironing. I would iron essentials and the other stuff would slip further down the cupboard. One day I looked at the mountainous pile and realised that some of it had been there for a year or so and no-one had missed any of it. Including me. I gathered it all up, put it in a dustbin sack and sneaked out out with the garbage.
Now, if it doesn’t tumble dry I don’t buy it. Life’s too short!

…………..
There’s no danger of me doing any ironing; after yesterday’s odd sock to the jaw I’ve decided that discretion is the better part of valour and I’m giving the avelanche cupboard a very Wide Bertha from now on.
———————————-
Wise idea; I’d suggest losing the iron is a good back up plan, just in case someone trys to tempt you to Break Your Silence as to where the accountant went…
