Madeleine McCann: Blaming Richard Desmond And How To Prevent Another Maddie
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE GUARDIAN: “Why the Sunday Express is so unpopular”
ROY GREENSLADE:
I note that the Sunday Express took another sales nose dive last month to record an average weekly sale of just 673,840. Could the continuing circulation slide have anything to do with the readers’ dislike of its scandalous Madeleine McCann coverage? Possibly.
Or has it more to do with the whimsical, but pointless, columns by the paper’s editor, Martin Townsend ? Also possible.
But I believe it has more to do with the growing distaste for its owner, Richard Desmond. In true Maxwellian form a sweaty picture of Dirty Des appeared in this week’s issue (arm around Lulu, poor her) at a charity function arranged by, of course, Desmond himself. Expect another sales drop this month.
OK!, which routinely features its owner Desmond, is the top selling showbiz magazine. Go figure…
METRO: “McCanns hold ‘low-key Maddie birthday party’”
Mr McCann, a consultant cardiologist at Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital, has a number of clinical appointments but he and his wife were due to be together at home for some part of the day.
Such are the facts.
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “7 ways to keep your kids safe on holiday - It’s easy for parents to become too relaxed about their children while abroad, so Shane Dunphy suggests some general rules”
Summer’s here — at last. And all we can think about are holidays in the sun. But no parent can take their children abroad now without thinking of tragic Madeleine McCann.
Tips to avoid another Madeleine McCann include:

Hello you all who are still posting!
I just stopped to read the posts. IMO, a reconstruction will not be useful to find the missing child, but will be useful to understand what happened, by pinpointing the inconsistancies, which will prompt the people doing it into changing the way they remember what happened.
I guess the MCs know it will not help find the child, but it will help with the inquiry. It might oblige them to be more accurate about specifics. I also guess their lawyers aren’t enthusiastic about it. The MCs haven’t said “no” to it yet as a “no” is going to be difficult to justify in the eyes of the opinion. I tend to think they will go to the re-construction, as it is better to do it voluntarily than to be compelled to it. Though I wonder if the PJ would. If they don’t, they might raise some suspicions.
I don’t think the PJ need other people than “the Tapas” and maybe the quiz lady. They are only going to re-enact the controversial parts of the evening, I should say. They probably have police people who’ll play the utilities for the second roles. What is important is the movements of the main persons involved, and the times.

Any further news?
Heads rolling or better after the reconstruction?

119 Peter Mac Did you follow the Jenny Nicholls murder trial at Teesside Crown Court David Hodgson was jailed for 18 years for her murder even though her body was never found(police think her remains are on the York moors somewhere). Therefore even though M has never been found it would be possible to charge someone with murder or manslaughter. .especially when the DNA evidence was indicative (thoughnot conlusive) 0f M being no longer around. Also, Hodgson was jailed on mobile phone evidence using linguistic analysis- perhaps the Pj could use phone evidence for the McC case in the same way/ What do you think?

But perhaps that is not in their “version” list, yet.”
But didn’t they have a day long seminar at the hotel in Rothley attended or advised by solicitors and spookespeople to sort out which version they were going to use ? Complete with flip charts. Has someone alredy forgotten his or her lines ?

“Well…Mrs Darwin got her Inquest Date pretty quickly.
Hubby “Disappeared” on the 21st March 2002…and in April 2003, an
Inquest hearing was held at Hartlepool County Court.
But…usually in the UK it is 7 years…if no body is found.”
I think you may be confusing two different situations.
7 years is the time for presumption of death if someone has simply disappeared without trace and all persons who might reasonably have been expected to see the person in that time have not done so. Lord Lucan being the most obvious example. At that point you can get a declaration that the person is dead, so that probate may be granted and the persons’ property divided up.
In the case of the bloke who canoed into the history books they made sure that his canoe was found washed up on the beach. That lead to a prima facie presumption that he had been in it, and had drowned within the jurisdiction of HM Coroner, who therefore has a duty to enquire into the circumstances of the death of one of Her Majesty’s subjects. Even though there was no actual body found, the circumstantial evidence pointed to a death.
The two situations are slightly different.

I can’t see any way that a beneficial reconstruction would be financially viable.
So many people involved that night and, apart from Mrs Fenn and a few casual local observers, everyone would have to be shipped in. The nine main players, Jas whatsisname, his wife, the yoga instructor, the bar staff, the cooks, the waiters, the creche staff, and so on.
All flown in and accommodated and their time compensated for.
The dynamics of arranging that are far too complex for something that isn’t going to prove much so long after the event.
No way will the Portugese authorities sanction that cost I’m sure, it would be phenomenal.
———————————————-
Private or televised, it would have been much easier last May/June, when the Mcs asked for it.
Memories fresh and far more of the original people still around. Even aspects of buildings, grounds etc. will have changed now in ways which people might not really notice but which could affect the overall effect.
Still might be useful, though. Maybe better late than never! Maybe not. Wonder what they’ll decide? Not as easy to organise as it might seem, as you say.

but its going over old ground we just keep repeating ourselves, theres no real benefit to the reconstruction …………

It seems to me that if the PJ think it would be helpful then they have their reasons.
I don’t think it would be anything as crude as wanting to get them onto Portuguese soil and leaping on them with cries of ‘you are nicked’; they have nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing that.
The Foreign Office is bending over backwards to inform the world that Clarrie was never one of theirs, since he belonged to Teflon Tony, and Teflon Tony turns out to be the kind of guy who discusses how to spin the story of his wife’s miscarriage whilst she’s still lying there bleeding.
All in all, not an edifying spectacle; why lose the moral high ground when you can stand by watching as it goes into auto-self-destruct mode?

105 Brandon Flours You’re right in there is no real benefit to have the construction- but by not attending it reveals the McCanns poor character… like Matt said anybodyelse would be keen to return to,do anything to find a beloved little daughter. But not them. Isn’t it Gs birthday on the 6June ? Wonder how he’s celebrating the big 40 A reconstruction with the mephitic medics and a private laugh at how well the inconsistencies are going?

Thank you; that’s an interesting article, particularly when read in conjunction with the News Of the Screws stuff yesterday.
A policeman from, say, Mars reading both articles would probably conclude that the chances of a stranger abductor entering the apartment and successfully taking Madeleine were around zero.
Which leaves us with ‘woke and wandered’ or the involvement of one or more of the Tapas 9…

Reconstructions are always helpful…am surprised that the Dr’s are so
reluctant to partake. It is for their child after all.
PJ seem to think it will help too.

Well…that is mainly up to the grieving Parents of the “lost” child and their
Holidaying Friends.
If I were such a parent, I would be asking the PJ to please do the
Reconstruction as soon as possible and we will ask all of our
Holiday Companions to also co-operate fully too.
After all….it is our precious little child who is missing, and we want to
do anything…anything…anything…which may help to provide us with
an answer as to what happened to our Princess.
