Madeleine McCann: Blaming Richard Desmond And How To Prevent Another Maddie
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE GUARDIAN: “Why the Sunday Express is so unpopular”
ROY GREENSLADE:
I note that the Sunday Express took another sales nose dive last month to record an average weekly sale of just 673,840. Could the continuing circulation slide have anything to do with the readers’ dislike of its scandalous Madeleine McCann coverage? Possibly.
Or has it more to do with the whimsical, but pointless, columns by the paper’s editor, Martin Townsend ? Also possible.
But I believe it has more to do with the growing distaste for its owner, Richard Desmond. In true Maxwellian form a sweaty picture of Dirty Des appeared in this week’s issue (arm around Lulu, poor her) at a charity function arranged by, of course, Desmond himself. Expect another sales drop this month.
OK!, which routinely features its owner Desmond, is the top selling showbiz magazine. Go figure…
METRO: “McCanns hold ‘low-key Maddie birthday party’”
Mr McCann, a consultant cardiologist at Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital, has a number of clinical appointments but he and his wife were due to be together at home for some part of the day.
Such are the facts.
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “7 ways to keep your kids safe on holiday - It’s easy for parents to become too relaxed about their children while abroad, so Shane Dunphy suggests some general rules”
Summer’s here — at last. And all we can think about are holidays in the sun. But no parent can take their children abroad now without thinking of tragic Madeleine McCann.
Tips to avoid another Madeleine McCann include:

Correction….”If they confided in him about “what went” on in the Interviews”

I would take little notice of CM’s spin on the matter.
If they confided in him about when on in the Interviews
they would be breaking the Secrecy Law…and thus risking
Legal Action themselves.
I doubt if they trust CM as much as CM likes to make us believe.

Aye that’s what I was thinking too.
The transcript in Joana Morais’s blog if exact gives the impression of an interview cut. I wonder why when the BBC interview took place after the pj interviews? Didn’t CM say that statements were not substantially changed following the PJ interviews.
I’ll check if you reply but for now I’ll say good-bye

I bet the PJ are smiling in anticipation of the slapstick.

I know that he certainly said it….but I have not seen or heard anything
about her actually saying it.
If she told him that he could say it…then, together with her Hubby, they
would be marked up even higher in my “suspicious characters” ratings.

cool
It would be good though!

Well…Mrs Darwin got her Inquest Date pretty quickly.
Hubby “Disappeared” on the 21st March 2002…and in April 2003, an
Inquest hearing was held at Hartlepool County Court.
But…usually in the UK it is 7 years…if no body is found.

BF…… Yes, I agree a reconstruction would be a good idea for everyone but, apart from the McCanns, everyone else can refuse to attend. Maybe the Ocean Club staff who were relocated could be persuaded but thats about it. So without key players would it then prove anything? is the evidence of behavioural experts valid in court in Portugal?
And of course the cost……. I think money will be the deciding factor in the case being shelved. It happens here all the time.
After a while they weigh the cost against the odds of success and the cases are back-burnered.
It would be preferable to have a rock-solid conclusion to the case and the correct person (s) convicted whoever they are, but I can’t see it happening now.
Please note… I’m still not here or anywhere on the internet….

As Salamon ES said the media and poster comment would dry out. Being number 78 at 4.41 pm is a slow day. Hopefully that’s all irrelevant to justice. Wouln’t want to overestimate the importance of forums now

About the R.Oldfield statement about May 2nd evening. Are you saying?
She said…
Then CM said that she said…
And succesfully plants the idea that -
she said what he said she said and not what she really said?

Perhaps more so late May-early June.
The Brits have tended to be somewhat lackadaisical in co-operating.

A question for the legal minds… If the case is closed or archived and no one is brought to trial, at what stage is an inquest held ?

A continuation of an Investigative Procedure, incorporating a Reconstruction
in order to ascertain what may have happened to a “lost” child…should not be
counted in Pounds, Shillings and Pence.
Perhaps the Fund could help regarding the Financial Costs.
M and A
Shillings???giving your age away there….

13 Carmen-I liked that one-and if a few inches of water can kill you we recommend that you have your supper the homeside of the swimming pool, not the far side-and if not, at least ensure your todlers sleep in water wings……and reflective traffic jackets….oh yes and helmets and shin pads.

Cool
I think they just want some behavioural experts to watch the tappas9 get into a dither,by trying to act out the impossible.
Its like the end of an agatha christie when the detective proves his point and solves the case!
May 12th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
I can’t see any way that a beneficial reconstruction would be financially viable.
So many people involved that night and, apart from Mrs Fenn and a few casual local observers, everyone would have to be shipped in. The nine main players, Jas whatsisname, his wife, the yoga instructor, the bar staff, the cooks, the waiters, the creche staff, and so on.
All flown in and accommodated and their time compensated for.
The dynamics of arranging that are far too complex for something that isn’t going to prove much so long after the event.
No way will the Portugese authorities sanction that cost I’m sure, it would be phenomenal.

Open to correction, but I think the Mcs asked for a full reconstruction, Crimewatch-style, shortly after M disappeared. Their request was refused because it would have broken Portuguese judicial secrecy laws.
____________
A “Crimewatch style” reconstruction is a bit like the edited highlights of a sports match, based on impressions of what happened. What I meant was a step-by-step reconstruction with reference to the T9 statements, other evidence such as the statements of the OC staff and other witnesses, mobile triangulation stuff, calls to the police etc.
All that is required is for the OC to be cordoned off and the media kept away. If a reconstruction takes place in secret it won’t breach the secrecy laws.
