Man Jailed For Claiming Tax Credits For 36 Children

gordon_with_lots_of_children.jpgIRVIN Fraser, a father-of-two has been found guilty of fraudulently claiming £79,718  in benefits – tax credits – for 36 children.

He was jailed for 13 months at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Says Fraser: “I was claiming child tax credit for my son and just added another name by chance.
“They never asked for any documents. It went on for two years and I got away with it.

“I couldn’t understand why they did not pick up on it. How could someone claim to have so many children but not be old enough to have them?”

He said: “I wanted to stop but it just snowballed and spiralled out of control. I withdrew my last claim but they still paid £4,000 into the bank account.

“I stupidly spent it, and that’s when I got caught.”

Now Fraser is in jail, and the taxpayer is rejoicing.

And what with the average cost of keeping a man in jail for a year at £44,000, Fraser’s children needing to be looked after, and him needing help with getting back on his feet after choky, justice has been done…
