Find Madeleine McCann On Facebook
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SAY the McCanns: “We strongly support and encourage this new initiative to use Facebook to increase awareness of missing children.”
Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you will know that children go missing.
Although not if you’re watching the TV news of reading the newspapers because Madeleine McCann is no longer in the mass media.
But the campaign has not been in vain. She is on a press release.
And the better news is that no children have gone missing in the past few weeks. We look through the mainstream press every day. It’s a fact. But what of life on the internet?
The statement goes on: “Using the power of social media in this way will undoubtedly capture the attention - and hopefully the help - of a younger population who are a hugely valuable and resourceful group.
“We would urge the millions of Facebook users around the world to keep looking and to do what they can to help bring these children home.”
Missing People has set up a widget for Facebook users to download, which will mean information on current appeals will be displayed on their homepage.
Says missing People Chief Executive Paul Tuohy: “If every Facebook user downloaded our BT-powered application, millions of people internationally could see an appeal that could help us to reunite a family.”
Because BT cares…

Of course, I DO NOT MEAN IN ANY WAY to imply criticism of the parents of Holly and Jessica. I am only speaking about this from an abductor’s point of view.

Hi Maria. It is bank holiday weekend here. Only four weeks left in the school term in Scotland.
I don’t think you can compare the McCann case with the Soham one. Those poor girls were 11 years of age and out walking in early evening in their own neighbourhood in which they were familiar with. Huntley took the opportunity when they spoke with him asking after their Teaching Asst. his partner. M and her siblings were babies left in an unlocked apartment, in a foreign country in unfamiliar surroundings. No, it is not the McC’s fault if there was someone watching but if they hadn’t left their children alone then that is all a potential abductor would have done WATCHED! The McC’s gave them an opportunity to do more than that . I will never be able to forgive them for that.

Mods and Admin
Its used to be law in the UK that manufacturers of knives were deemed responsible for any injuries and deaths.
If you leave the keys in your car and wander into a shop, you come back and the car is gone, you are responsible.
But grown up people do handle gunpowder responsibly, even employers do, eg quarry owners.
Which Bomb?

‘I think most courts would regard infanticide as pretty unacceptable.’
I think it would help if you could be bothered to look up the meaning of the word infanticide. It means killing an infant, generally defined as under 12 months old.
After that you could even do a trifling amount of research. That way you would be aware that there is a vast tranche of law on the subject, and that the Law Commissions Report in 2006 tackles the problems of current legislation.
As you haven’t bothered to find out, the specific offence of infanticide, which is committed when a mother whose balance of mind is disturbed kills her baby when the baby is less than 12 months old, provides what might be called a ‘concealed’ partial defence.
‘Where the offence of infanticide is concerned, the problem is not so much the
definition but, rather, the procedure for ensuring that evidence of a mother’s
mental disturbance at the time of the killing is heard at trial. A mother may be ‘in
denial’ about having killed her infant. She may, therefore, be unwilling to submit
to a psychiatric examination if the point of this examination seems to her to be to
find out why she did it. This is because she cannot accept that she did do it.’
This may look to you like our Courts going all namby pamby over brutal killers, but that isn’t the way the Courts see it.
Of course, our judges lack the benefit of your sensitive opinions…

I take it what you really meant by the use of the word ‘miracle’ is the PJ resolving this case?
Im not sure if ‘blaming’ is going to help of solve anything to be honest. At this point the most important thing is finding out the truth.
Its a shame but the PJ have already shown their true colours imo which has done nothing but turn this whole disaster into a complete fiasco.

Well, if by some miracle the McCanns are innocent then of course the PJ have some explaining to do but I believe that whatever has happened to M then they have to take the blame. They made the decision to leave her alone and whatever has happened whether it be she has had an accident or been abducted or simply wandered off it happened because they made a conscious decision to leave her and their other two babies unsupervised.

Hi! Enjoying half-term? (Is it half-term in Scotland?)
Yes, they certainly would have to take responsibility.
But, would you therefore forgive an abductor, if there was one, because he (or she) had merely taken advantage of their irresponsibility? Is it OK to kidnap someone else’s child, rape, kill or sell them, or simply bring them up as your own? Could his defence be that he just took advantage of a jolly good opportunity and it was their fault anyway? I mean, Huntley just took advantage of the fact that the girls weren’t with adults at the time. He just took advantage of a good opportunity didn’t he? Can we really blame him?
Have a nice evening everyone! Lots to do, I’m afraid.

I included murder in my list. I suppose it’s the bit I had most in mind with the words “incredible magnitude”. I think most courts would regard infanticide as pretty unacceptable.
Killing accidentally, covering up, desecrating your child’s body, plus all the rest is still pretty bad in my book. May not be in yours, perhaps. Of course, the courts may not regard it as more than a more-or-less acceptable behavioural blip these days.
But for me, even “only” covering up an accident, desecrating your child’s body, defrauding thousands, wasting HUGE amounts of police time etc….. would be pretty bad in itself. I wonder how the courts would regard it?
By the way, it would be interesting to debate what is meant by “intrinsically evil”. My dictionary’s first definition of “evil” is “morally wrong or bad”. (Collins) Yes, I think that just about covers it. No hyperbole there. “Intrinsically” simply means that the evil belongs to the act itself. Wasting police time and resources ON THAT SCALE is, in my book, intrinsically evil. “Disgraceful” could apply to far less serious acts, for example dropping litter all over the beach. It’s not the adjective I would use to describe what they did. The police could have been doing just one or two other important things while they have been investigating this incident.
We obviously have very different standards about what is evil…… I simply cannot believe you said I was giving these acts “an importance they don’t possess.” TT has had an even worse effect than I thought.
There is also the fact that they would be guilty of allowing Robert Murat to be suspected whilst knowing they themselves were the criminals. Now surely even you would regard that as “intrinsically evil”. Ruining another individual’s reputation, possibly for the rest of his life??
But maybe you don’t regard that as wrong at all…..???
You don’t have to tell me, I think, that the essential thing is finding out what happened to Madeleine.
