Find Madeleine McCann On Facebook
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SAY the McCanns: “We strongly support and encourage this new initiative to use Facebook to increase awareness of missing children.”
Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you will know that children go missing.
Although not if you’re watching the TV news of reading the newspapers because Madeleine McCann is no longer in the mass media.
But the campaign has not been in vain. She is on a press release.
And the better news is that no children have gone missing in the past few weeks. We look through the mainstream press every day. It’s a fact. But what of life on the internet?
The statement goes on: “Using the power of social media in this way will undoubtedly capture the attention - and hopefully the help - of a younger population who are a hugely valuable and resourceful group.
“We would urge the millions of Facebook users around the world to keep looking and to do what they can to help bring these children home.”
Missing People has set up a widget for Facebook users to download, which will mean information on current appeals will be displayed on their homepage.
Says missing People Chief Executive Paul Tuohy: “If every Facebook user downloaded our BT-powered application, millions of people internationally could see an appeal that could help us to reunite a family.”
Because BT cares…

Hi!
I believe she said Thur or Fri (?) that she was away for the weekend. Don’t think she said where or for how long. Hope the weather is holding out for her.
The Mc’s & JT both made assurances that they would return if requested. Doesn’t look good for them if they now refuse imo. Will the PJ have to drag them back? More time wasting imo!

I believe the PJ knew the recon would not take place, to advertise a date was not very
clever IMO. However, the post I made earlier about the U.K. Police annoyance that
the McCanns will not co-operate is an indication of the way things are going. I think
if the McCanns or their friends refuse it will mean an extradition procedure which the
PJ wanted to avoid. The investigation has to close in August and a decision on whether
to shelve or charge made.
The PJ have taken a lot of stick but I honestly don”t think they would have continued
this far if they didn”t think they had a case. Maybe, the interviews in the U.K. only
strengthened their belief, if it IS any of the Tapas 7 refusing I suspect it may be JT and
O”B, we shall see.

Bonjour!
Don’t you think the PJ should be able to show that what the group has said is not true, if that is indeed the case, without bringing everyone back? They have the timeline etc. as given by the Mcs and their friends.
Or do you think they hope to embarrass the Mcs into an admission that they killed Madeleine (or dumped her body after an accident) if they actually have them on the spot? Maybe you think they hope for a confession, if they have insufficient evidence, and that the recon is the best way to get it?
M and A
Maria,
Your second paragraph is a bit sweeping, most of us don’t feel the McC killed Madeleine, although she may have died from accidental events, see the choking posts from last night. It wouldn’t be professional for the police to embarress anyone into admitting, they have a duty to get an admission of guilt. BUT guilt from an accidental death to the parents would be very emotionally damaging ie they had failed to protect their child.
In the days that followed the 3rd may , both were very keen to assure everyone that Madeleine was so desired that IVF was the only option to conceive her, this actually was a very unnecessary remark in ordinary circumstances, and we didn’t need to know of their fertility problems then or now. Failing in duty is a long way from killing a child, but guilt could confuse that for the parents, and make them look/feel guiltier than they are.
i think their best bet is to comply with PJ wishes, and encourage their friends too as well - it could reveal the real truth, and the sooner the better.

I am not so sure the MCs have been ill advised. If they aren’t going back to Portugal for a re-construction, it can’t be against their lawyers’advice, and their lawyers are no fools. They have found a very clever way of not going, if their friends play the game, and pretend they don’t want to go.
It is true the public now have a blurred image of them ; they are somewhat ambiguous about their will to co-operate etc… . But the haziness of their image is not a real inconvenient, if, on the other hand, they are gaining time, they are stopping the investigation from progressing, and they are continuously dscrediting the PJ.
Making it difficult for the PJ is the best thing they can do, from their point of view. Obviously, the Pj have something that allows them to keep the MCs arguidos. But obviously too, that something isn’t enough to close the investigation and to press charges. The MCs and their lawyers don’t know exactly what that something is. The damage of blurring their public image isn’t too expensive considering the gain of delaying the investigation. Besides, they are good at keeping support from plenty of people in GB.
Only if the PJ have some unquestionable evidence against them, will the MC’s strategy prove useless.
I really think that the re-construction will help to know who did what, but not to find the child. I think the MCs and their lawyers don’t want the re-construction to show that their statements about what happened that night are questionable.
It will be interesting to see if the PJ insist on having the re-construction done, or if they drop the idea.

104, or 105,
Mod. and Admin asking me a question! Very proud of myself.
In principle everybody who was present at that night is a suspect.
Every suspect can be declared arguido. It depends on what they told the police and what the police know about them.
Helping hiding a crime is a crime.
Refusing to cooperate is a crime.
Causing difficulties to the police, on purpose, in order to hide a crime is also a crime.
I think none of the witnesses has being yet declared arguido because a witness is obliged to answer all questions. The arguido has the right not to answer.
Jane Tanner’s case, lying all the time, will help the PJ a lot.
She spent 12 hours at the police station.
As witness she could not refuse answering.
That was not an easy day for her.
Somewhere I read that she often answered: “I don’t remember”.
M and A
So, we watch and wait?
About a year ago I witnessed a reprehensible crime, and I made my statements to the police, and eventually the person concerned was arrested and charged. There were 8 witnesses originally ,some professional, (the events occured in a hospital) and some from patients such as myself. The charged pleaded guilty, which was a bonus, as 6 of the witnesses died (terminal illnesses). His victim was also likely to die from her health issues, but not immediately, his actions hastened her death though. There were in the end ,only 2 witnesses, but the case was held in camera, and he was jailed for attempted murder with malice aforethought. His victim’s death in the end was peaceful and dignified, and surrounded by people who loved her, but premature by approx 4 to 5 years. She was 58. But Justice at least has been served.

Maria , I can see you are clearly impressed by the McC lending support, but I think that might carry a lot more weight if they had used babysitters - you know the old fashioned way of leaving children when you go out. Its all shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted….
M and A
I can see why you think you see this but, honestly, it’s not quite true. I agree totally with the sentiments you express here re babysitters etc. I suppose, to be honest, that I DO think it’s right for them to support these measures IF the organisations concerned think it helpful. Maybe it’s one way they can redress the wrong of leaving their children in a vulnerable situation. Maybe they owe it to Madeleine, as it were. It is also possible (although one would have to impute some good intentions to them to believe this!) that they do wish parents of abducted children in the future to have a better chance of their child being found. Since children are occasionally abducted even when not neglected, that would not be an unreasonable aim.
I think, if you look back, you will see that my main point was simply that PACT welcomed their support for the Europe-wide alert and that such an alert is, in my opinion only, from what I can gather from everything I’ve read, also supported by Missing People, despite their sentence about the difficulty “at present” of judging the effectiveness of such alerts.
I am in no position to judge whether or not such an alert is the best approach, even though it is apparently (IMO) supported by the main charity for missing people in the UK (Missing People) and PACT (whose focus is more specifically on abducted children). I have no professional expertise in this field.
It does appear to me that the Mcs added enormous publicity to the measure which the two main charities appear to have been campaigning for, although I fully accept what chenier says about the ambivalences she notes between Missing Children Europe and Missing People. and, indeed, between different aims on the Missing People website. (However, they may not be perfect but they do so much to help. I have a colleague who went missing four years ago. This person’s parents and siblings have had great support, of all kinds, from Missing People.)
IMO only, if one agrees that a Europe-wide child alert system is a good idea, one can only be glad that the Mcs have given it a lot of publicity it never before enjoyed. They appear to have encouraged many more MEPs than were expected to, to support the measure, although probably still not in sufficient numbers to get past even the first hurdle. But these things take time. PACT seems to think they’ve given it a much-needed boost.

Why did the older lady stayed sitting on her chair that evening, did not stand up and runned towards the apartment, together with the rest?
Could it have been stage fright, or maybe she had forgotten her lines? IMO

I think the Mc’s have planned for careers in the media (since 3/5/07 I hasten to add!)
K has left her profession, can G now really succeed in his, even if he wants to? Do the nhs really need/want him? Perhaps they have to keep him?
However, I do believe that any plans (if there are any) for a media career have been scuppered by their (ill advised?) actions & lack of them.
I think they are clasping at straws with all these various ”charities” etc. Any decent one would not wish to be represented by people with a track record such as theirs, imo.
So how will the mortgage get paid?
M and A
The GMC will make their decision in due course, but Gerry Mc no longer treats patients. Its possible that they have reduced their mortgage , but for now, until any court case or charge its all in limbo

Hi there, it”s a miserable day here, hope the sun is shining for you.
Looks as if the recon is off, CM still repeating the mantra, “the McCanns are willing to
attend”. Seems as if now, some of the Tapas 7 are unwilling, apparently. they too are
making demands, don”t know what they can be. The only thing I can think of, if true
that it”s the Tapas 7 refusing, is maybe JT and O”B have something to worry about.
Actually I think this will make the public turn against them, even if the U.K. press doesn”t. Be interesting to see what the PJ response will be, probably they should not have announced the date, can you imagine the Press swarming into PDL again. This
has not been the best PJ move, unless of course there is some method to it all.
May 25th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
IMO, the witness who refuses going to Algarve for reconstruction must be seen as somebody who knows much more than he/she is telling.
This attitude will be an indication to the PJ.
Maybe the PJ is waiting for this.
The refusing witness will have to answer very severe questions.
He/she better go.
M and A
Maravilha, can they be made arguidos , or not, if they don’t comply?
