MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SAY the McCanns: “We strongly support and encourage this new initiative to use Facebook to increase awareness of missing children.”
Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you will know that children go missing.
Although not if you’re watching the TV news of reading the newspapers because Madeleine McCann is no longer in the mass media.
But the campaign has not been in vain. She is on a press release.
And the better news is that no children have gone missing in the past few weeks. We look through the mainstream press every day. It’s a fact. But what of life on the internet?
The statement goes on: “Using the power of social media in this way will undoubtedly capture the attention - and hopefully the help - of a younger population who are a hugely valuable and resourceful group.
“We would urge the millions of Facebook users around the world to keep looking and to do what they can to help bring these children home.”
Missing People has set up a widget for Facebook users to download, which will mean information on current appeals will be displayed on their homepage.
Says missing People Chief Executive Paul Tuohy: “If every Facebook user downloaded our BT-powered application, millions of people internationally could see an appeal that could help us to reunite a family.”
Because BT cares…

Definitely not me, then.
More of a scream of rage due to incinerating the chops…

Puzzled, the McCanns refused to cooperate from the very beginning.
Probably the PJ knew they were about to go back to England.
At that moment they were only witnesses and victims.
As witnesses they would come back to Portugal only if they wanted to.
Not obliged to come back but obliged to answer all the questions( in Engalnd, for example).
As prime suspects, Portugal has the right to ask for their extradition that’s why they have those lawyers of Pinochetti’s.

Puzzled, a suspect has the right to ask to be made an arguido.
Being arguidos, they have more rights.
Maybe this was the case, we don’t know.
I think a public prosecuter or a judge makes him an arguido, not the police.
There must have been something important that made them arguidos.

Not jane Tanner, not Russel refusig to go. Too obvious.
The older lady, of course, not to attract the attention to others.
The PJ said everybody got to go otherwise they will blow up the reconstruction.
How does C M knows that a reconstruction would be useless?
The PJ are the ones who can judge the situation. Everything is still secret, even not the lawyers can judge it yet.
The one who refuses will not being cooperating with the police.
He/she will get in trouble, I hope.

I predict that Britain’s heatwave will start at 7.30 tomorrow morning and the UK will swelter at temperatures in the low 90s until the Smudds return, bringing the rain back with them.

I Just meant that your post explains why that comment may have been made. If the Mccans had not been made arguidos so soon they would have been obliged to answer the questions put them. Instead they decided to remain silent.

I don’t understand “hence”.
What do you mean?

In UK courts you can certainly use a confession against the person who makes it. Of course, there are exceptions. The whole process is set out in PACE, Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
Don’t know about Portugal……… but the confession seemed to be crucial in the Cipriano case…………..!!! (IMO)

I’m off to rain-soaked Tuscany for a couple of weeks. It has rained, thundered, hailed and been v. chilly for the last two years. I am beginning to wonder if Old Smuddy is a rain god.

Tuscany. Lovely!
Well, if the weather is bad at the mo, which a lot of Europe is, then that’s good as it has to get better soon!
I have found that if it’s good here then it’s bad there & vise versa. So if we’re having a bad spell you may be ok??
Have a great time
& no sneeking into internet cafes for a sneaky look at Anorak. (like I did!)

Alas, I have still not managed to work out the use of a laptop in watching secret porn during masturbation month.
I think I need one of those tower things…

I’m not organised at all - the whole place is heaped with piles of stuff to be ironed, stuff which is ironed, stuff which has been ironed and then sat on by a Smuddlet, stuff for if it’s hot, stuff for if it’s cold and wet (again), stuff that still needs to be washed and dried … but it’s always like this and I always seem to manage.

I don’t know enough about the legal stuff to know what the situation is. Too lazy to look it up! I don’t know what would be required to make them go back, nor even if the PJ would think it that important. Didn’t one of them (Ribeiro??) say it wasn’t that important anyway but that they’d need the Mcs if it WAS going to go ahead? After all, if it’s their timings which cause a difficulty, the PJ have got all those anyway and could presumably demo the impossibility of what they are saying. But I can see it might still be helpful.
As Marie says, they’ll just do what their lawyers tell them, I expect. val might be right that the PJ never expected it actually to take place. Surely they could guess what the lawyers’ advice would be! Maybe it was just to gain time, with the extension, in the first instance, to August.
Ah, lucky Totje! Hope she’s having a good time.

You must be very organised, if I were going away today I’d be pulling my hair out & flapping over all the things I hadn’t done yet!

The bloomers would be too much of a giveaway.
She’s working undercover - trying to increase her stealthilyness by going in disguise.
Oh, she’s a crafty one !!!

I don’t know.
I think the PJ want to be able to say what happened really that night, it is part of their job, and it is also their duty as investigators. They probably want the witnesses to comment on the differences in their statements, thinking that maybe, it will make the investigation progress. The police can’t stay with different accounts that don’t fit, from the main witnesses, and the witnesses are the persons who can give the right explanations. Maybe they gave those statements in good faith, maybe not. However, the witnesses’ statements should fit more or less, don’t you think?
I don’t see what the problem is for the MCs and friends to help the PJ with those, unles, it isn’t in their best interest that the truth be found. Why?
A “confession” is not what the PJ are after, I think, as a confession is no use in a trial, anyway.
