MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SAY the McCanns: “We strongly support and encourage this new initiative to use Facebook to increase awareness of missing children.”
Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you will know that children go missing.
Although not if you’re watching the TV news of reading the newspapers because Madeleine McCann is no longer in the mass media.
But the campaign has not been in vain. She is on a press release.
And the better news is that no children have gone missing in the past few weeks. We look through the mainstream press every day. It’s a fact. But what of life on the internet?
The statement goes on: “Using the power of social media in this way will undoubtedly capture the attention - and hopefully the help - of a younger population who are a hugely valuable and resourceful group.
“We would urge the millions of Facebook users around the world to keep looking and to do what they can to help bring these children home.”
Missing People has set up a widget for Facebook users to download, which will mean information on current appeals will be displayed on their homepage.
Says missing People Chief Executive Paul Tuohy: “If every Facebook user downloaded our BT-powered application, millions of people internationally could see an appeal that could help us to reunite a family.”
Because BT cares…

You know that old saying, “He who pays the Piper calls the tune”, well I think the
McCanns have no control or say in what to do and have been ill advised on many occasions. Crimewatch is nothing like the recon the PJ have in mind and the advisors
know it. Also, to the average person, there is no way their friends would refuse if it helped to bring closure, so the public are bound to wonder.
M and A
Val,
Strangely with all the bad advice they have been given - that alone makes me feel sorry for them - a dignified silence and an admission of culpability on their part and I think they would have won a lot of people over. But the fund and clarrie and et all were a big mistake. I also think Murat being made arguido was a big error, if one is squeaky clean there is no need at all for a blackening of another - they should take their lead from him.

Yes I remember that, just didn’t remember him leaving & returning.

think it was kept fairly quiet, the fact that the McC weren’t in the suspect state then did leave them somewhat in a predicament as they were getting a bit too enthusiastically celebrity, things changed when the Vatican removed links to their site and doubts set in everywhere.

………Yes, there are many cases of a teenager going “missing” because they want to. However, if they are below the legal age then they have no say in whether they are going to be looked for or not. They are then still under the guardianship of their parent or carer, who has the right to make this decision alongside the police.
———————————————
I don’t dispute this in any way.
I’m pointing out that Missing People is the principal charity in this country for missing people, and they get substantial government funding precisely because they offer absolute confidentiality to runaways. Why do you think Missing People states categorically that they will not trace calls from runaways?
No confidentiality means no contacts from the runaways, which means in turn higher risks to those runaways.
And returning runaways to abusive homes may not be doing them a favour…

I just asked Matt who CM is, and then see your reply!!!!!!! Yes, that surprised me too, wasn”t he seconded from another Government Dept.?
This case is like a maze, just when you think you are on your way out, you find yourself in a cul-de-sac!!!!!!! The amount of support the McCanns have received is
staggering and quite sinister IMO of course.
M and A
Val, re CM he lost his job when Teflon left…and someone in the private sector is/was paying him £70k to PR the McC’s. he’s no longer a civil servant, a consolation for some anyway

There are very strict rules about advertising a missing (minor) child, and anyone contravening these rules can be in very serious trouble!
A missing child may ONLY be publicly advertised with the backing of a police case number, and written authorisation from the parents/guardian. Written authorisation from the parents/guardian alone is NOT authorisation to publicly advertise that the child is missing. The police have to be involved, as they will have all background information on the case, and will realise when it is going to be a danger to advertise the missing child/teenager. You may also NOT give out any details regarding the family of the missing child/teenager which can lead any unauthorised person to them (unless they themselves have given consent for this!).
Yes, there are many cases of a teenager going “missing” because they want to. However, if they are below the legal age then they have no say in whether they are going to be looked for or not. They are then still under the guardianship of their parent or carer, who has the right to make this decision alongside the police.
M and A
But even so they still need the security that the right people are looking for them.Teenagers going missing can be for so many reasons form the hormonal to the downright dangerous and then the silly misunderstandings that do happen - hot coals anyway.

Hello, how are you?
Two other interesting points, I understood that Justine McGuiness left because of
her high expenses account, according to the article, it was because of the pressure of the case. also, Gerry was looking for a replacement PR, so even then, all they could
“search ” for was a PR replacement, not their daughter!!!!!

In fact we are an accurate and historical site in the whole of this sorry saga, don’t forget to read Anoraks own openers on the reports, and the links supplied. BTW you WILL be some time You may be interested to note the way the Opinions have changed also, and the posters also
