Madeleine McCann: Bobby Hands, Cannes And A Hunger For Publicity
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
As Leslie Felperin, the excellent reviewer for Variety magazine remarked to me: the newspaper-reading public can’t be persuaded to react in the same way: they care about Madeleine McCann in a serious mood, or in a non-serious mood, they care about Sir Alan Sugar or Simon Cowell. The idea of actually caring about a violent arthouse film investigating the life of Bobby Sands is a very tall order indeed.

Who the hell do these people think they are? thought they would be happy to go back to portugal and assist the police in any way they can? they have no respect for their daughter, and if this latest stunt doesnt make the fence sitters a tad suspicous

Hate it though there’s not going to be a reconstruction.
I would have been happy to drink.. ermmm no guard the 14 bottles of wine.

Re Government. I agree, I thought they were being really difficult but now I’m not so sure. But hey what do us mere tax payers know about anything? Diddly squat!
I hope this fiasco opens up the gov for what it is…or not?
May 27th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Maybe it was a marketing fault. Would have been better to call the reconstruction a fiesta with free wine and tapas..

In your own words (ordinarily I would never use them)..that’s nonsense!
I did NOT claim that GM would not have his mind on his work. Please read my posts (only if you intend to comment on them). In post 346 I referred to the matter. I said “The worry was…..” Any rational person (to use your current favourite) would realise that I was still referring to the press reports.
(You did realise of course!! You’re just cross!)
Anyway…yawn! All irrelevant. Come on….have this pretty olive branch!
So, no reconstruction? Still, Brunty tells us it was only a “request” not a “demand”.
The news might shrivel up completely now. Doubt it, though.
Wonder if Salomon was right in his opinion that they needed the recon in order to decide which one to charge? I thought that made it sound fairly crucial really. What do you think?

Maria,
Perhaps you should look upon this an awful example of why the Mods and Admin ask you to provide a source for your claims. After all, you did say:
‘Another report in the same paper said he had gone back to work with the approval of the GMC. I could give the exact quote if anyone wanted it.
The worry was that his mind might be preoccupied and that therefore he would begin with academic work, working with MRI scans etc. and have limited contact with patients before later (January, I think) going back to full-time work.’
Had you bothered to provide an accurate quote this misunderstanding could not have arisen, could it?
After all, you are now saying that you didn’t mean that the GMC had approved the terms upon which he could return to work.
That isn’t what you said in your post.
I do appreciate that it takes time and effort which you may not be prepared to spend, but perhaps you could now dig out the exact quote?
That way we might all finally know what it was you thought you were reporting…

I still think it is unethical what he’s doing. So I won’t spend a penny on it. He’s one more person who’s trying to earn a lot of money/fame on the faith of a little girl.

422-But surely just an incy, wincy little teeniest, tiniest bit of reconstruction wouldn’t do any harm in trying to help find Madeleine-(been watching Charlie and Lola today)

That”s what I read at the time. What is the figure then? When you say he told you,
do you know him personally? Can”t be much less than that to be able to employ an Assistant on nearly £50,ooo pa, .
sounds like an awful lot for a research assistant. i remember the going rate to be more between 11 and 12 thousand, maybe it depends on the calibre of the assistant, but usually they’re just graduates and the going rate is that. btw gm’s grant was for ca 145 thousand, not the 600 you quoted earlier, unless he got another, different, one.

After Whoops has posted her translation into Urdu, I can do a translation into Dutch or even one of the local/regional accents..
But as I understand it, the request to get information [sms, mms etc] on CD/DVD from the providers, was denied.
They didn’t really specify which crime was under investigation, they named all possibilities.
Now I have to try to find WHY it was denied.
‘Funny’ though as people have been speculating a lot about the British government/providers that they don’t want to cooperate with the pj, this [if true] prooves they couldn’t convince a Portuguese judge to release the info/things.

A scenario (IMHO) - after refusing to join the reconstruction make the four friends arguidos and bring those six people back to a forced reconstruction. would that be fun?

The Telegraph also has the news that the Reconstruction will not take place as well as Sky, but unlike Sky the Telegraph state that the McCanns themselves have said no.
Are they above and beyond the law now? Another great example set to the lawless

‘Kate and Gerry McCann will not return to Portugal for Madeleine reconstruction Telegraph
Kate and Gerry McCann have decided not to return to Portugal to take part in a reconstruction of events on the night Madeleine went missing.
By Caroline Gammell Last Updated: 7:18PM BST 27/05/2008
—Mr and Mrs McCann, who are arguidos or suspects in their daughter’s disappearance, had been asked by Portuguese police to return to the Algarve along with the seven friends on holiday with them at the time.
Detectives wanted to stage a reconstruction at the Ocean Club complex where the McCanns were dining, leaving Madeleine and her younger siblings in the unlocked apartment nearby.
But the couple, from Rothley in Leicestershire, have decided not to go back. …
A source close to the McCanns said: “There are no plans for Kate and Gerry and their friends to return to Portugal. They have all indicated their intentions to the police.
“The reconstruction will only take place if Kate and Gerry and their friends agree to take part. If they don’t agree it will not happen.
“Kate and Gerry have had grave reservations about the value of it. If the reconstruction was going to help Madeleine, nothing in the world would stop them taking part.
—The couple’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said yesterday: “Kate and Gerry and their friends remain committed to doing anything to help find Madeleine. …’

Re previous posters who thought that perhaps Kate was pregnant (no disrespect, just been a long day and can’t remember who posted what).
She had apparently all her children by IVF. If she is pregnant again, how come she’s so successful at it? I know women that spend a lot of money on unsuccessful attempts at conceiving. If she’s pregnant again, how did that happen (no - please don’t tell me the obvious). And where did she go this time to get pregnant?

We know the Prosecutor is not allowed to use mobile phone evidence, but I understood
permission was given to use the numbers to show where each caller and recipient

Rocinante arrived home this morning looking decidedly the worse for wear. No amount of Polo mints could disguise the distinct smell of cabernet sauvignon.

I’m sorry about that Saul; I can only claim, in mitigation, that somewhere along the line your noble steed seems to have acquired a distinct taste for alcohol. At least I managed to get the Glenlivet bottle away from her…
