Madeleine McCann: Jasper Gerard - What I Did On My Holidays
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
PRIVATE Eye reports that Telegraph columnist Jasper Gerard – a sometime sports writer who surely needs billing as ‘Jaspie G’ - marked the first anniversary of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance by travelling to Portugal with his wife and two children.
He also, allegedly, took along a security guard for baby minding duties.
Sadly, the reported investigation was never published, it being said to be too revolting for the paper’s Travel Editor, although it may yet appear in the main news section…
Mr Gerard has not replied to the rumour…

M and A
Sam, I regularly text and phone my cllients in Europe and US and Canada with no prior arrangements by them
_________________
Just ran across this - maybe if you are in Europe but over here with most of the cellphone companies you have to pay a much larger monthly charge to have the ability to use it in Europe or have it activated for international use when ready to travel. I myself when traveling to Europe go without because I refuse to pay the extra charge on my monthly bill. When some lawyers I know from here travel to Europe they carry international phones which are given to them by their firm and returned when they return to the States. Text though yes I can do over to the UK on my regular cell phone but not when over there.
Mods and Admin
Cheryl, the conversation was about texting and phoning from the UK (UK registered mobiles) to UK registered mobiles in Europe and the US & Canada. It can’t be done in some countries but can in others if the PIN is changed

Though the PJ may know….sadly…I am not privy to their innermost
thoughts on the matter.
Am sure we will know in time, though.
Yes….they seem to have an odd attitude to mobiles…at least many
differing tales about them.
“No Valuables have been lost”…..Oh dear….a foot in mouth statement

Any link ?
Teasing.
Thank you for that….although I have read that the answers Dr G P gave
were “No Comments” mainly.
Yes….Dr K’s…alleged outburst…quoted by her sister-in-law…is rather
strange…if it is a true quote.
Mind you….during that period….a lot of quotes from “sources” on the
McCann side of the family were very insistant upon stressing her “raging”,
and her tendency to “incandescence” behaviour, etc.
Odd.

About the interview to Vanity fair:
> I heard the Portuguese lawyer of the McCanns on Portuguese radio last year confirming that the McCanns DID NOT ask to become arguidos and that Gerry answered all his questions and Kate failed to answer SOME questions.(the right to remain silent naturally assists the arguidos).
> What I find more intriguing in the vanity fair article (which I didn’t read the full version) is the final part of the discussion between Kate and the police officer.
When Kate is told that she would become “arguida” in the portuguese sense of the word, she immediately jumps to the conclusion that the police think that she killed Madeleine. If this is what happened, does anyone else find this strange. The police says “you’re a suspect” -and you immediately think you’re a suspect of killing your daughter? Surely most people would think suspicion of a hoax or something else… but murder?
v. strange.

Is there a link between the 10th mobile phone of the Tapas 9 group and the person sending 14 texts to G on May 2, or is there more than one Tapas 10, 11, etc. ?
Odd that 10 mobiles between 9 people. I would expect with all the stuff you have to carry for babies and toddlers that a maximun of 1 would suffice per couple.

Apparently, last sighting of Brandon - she was heading to a barbie next door with some Australian hunks. She may be gone some time!

It seems that the infamous(?) Tapas10 is back into the picture again.
I wonder if the McCann’s had this mysterious person on their Personal List
of “witnesses” to be interviewed by Police on their behalf of the Defence.

Guess that would restrict many. and there’s nothing new to discuss anyway….. just rumour and more rumour. No facts.

Morning all
In criminal investigations I understood that police had rights to conduct searches of all people, places possessions connected with crimes (not just suspects). The crime author PD James wrote that ‘The detectives are only too aware of …the trauma which a murder investigation can cause to the innocent as well as to the guilty’.
Referral to privacy rights to prevent searching of the content of mobile phones messages in criminal investigation without previous authorization seems totally bizarre - it appears to require the anticipation of a crime by police and authorisation of surveillance in advance of a possible crime being committed. These privacy rights appear to work to prevent the solution of unexpected crimes
‘Madeleine McCann’s parents investigated for neglect Times 29/5/2008
The request for access to the messages was rejected by instructional judge Pedro Frias at the court in Portimão. He said it would breach the right to privacy and that Portuguese law did not allow for the retrospective interception of telephone calls.’
Time to question this law! In the past week there is a sense that at least 2 possible sources of evidence have been denied to the investigation - the phone message content and the results of the reconstruction. But at least it seems that some of the phone evidence is available i.e. ‘complete listings of all telephone traffic to calls made to and from numbers between April 28, when the group arrived in Portugal, and September 9, when the McCanns left the country.’ and ‘details of the locations of the mobile telephones’. There is no mention that access to this evidence has been denied.
I’m not sure where this leaves the investigation but at least some journalists like Gaunt and Kelvin McKensie are beginning to say that their jury is out over the Tapas 9 non-cooperation over the reMcCon. The media created the illusion of the Mc-unquestionability, so imo it’s time they posed some of the public’s questions.

Form the Vanity Fair interview
““Do you have something to tell us?” Ricardo asked, dramatically.
“No,” Kate replied. “Do you have something to tell us?”
He nodded. “Yes. You are being made arguidos.” He was using the Portuguese word for “formal suspects.”
It was at that point, Trish says, that her sister-in-law became incandescent with rage, screaming, “Do you honestly believe that I would murder my own child?” ”
If that be true, which it probably isn’t, it would be the most damning evidence against the McCs. Remember that police routinely say sharp instrument, blunt instrument, not because they don’t know what was used, but because the only other person who knows is the perpetrator.
For KM to use the word ‘Murder’ at that stage would be one of the most telling pieces of evidence against them.

i have to agree, it’s very over the top the way it’s written, but that would be an incredible fabrication. i did note though later that clarence made an announcement that the article was not approved and;
‘In Mitchell’s words, the incorrections start right at the beginning of the article, where it’s announced “the first interview with Gerry McCann since he and his wife, Kate, were declared arguidos”.’
i’m not sure what that means, i dont’ think that refers to that particular scene but i’m not sure. how do you read it ?

Good morning all !!
Sam…re “may have asked to become Arguido/Arguida”.
Vanity Fair article does not quote directly from Dr K…but is said by
Trish Cameron.
“”This time, however, the bearing of the detective from the Policia Judiciária
was different. And the McCanns were not entirely surprised. “Because for months
they used to have regular weekly meetings with the Portuguese police, and then
they stopped,” recalls Gerry’s older sister Trish Cameron, who was in the villa at
the time. Also, without the McCanns’ knowledge or consent, the police had photocopied Kate’s diary, examined her borrowed Bible, and removed Gerry’s
laptop.
“Do you have something to tell us?” Ricardo asked, dramatically.
“No,” Kate replied. “Do you have something to tell us?”
He nodded. “Yes. You are being made arguidos.” He was using the Portuguese word for “formal suspects.”
It was at that point, Trish says, that her sister-in-law became incandescent with rage, screaming, “Do you honestly believe that I would murder my own child?”
“No,” said the policeman.”"”
____________________________________________
All in all….not a very convincing tale to me.
Rather melodramatically rendered.
Why should she mention “Murder” at this stage ??….(even if the quote by the
Police Officer re “Arguido” may have been genuine).
And considering the general tone of the Vanity Fair interviews….Seems like
pure spin to me.
