Madeleine McCann: Jasper Gerard - What I Did On My Holidays
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
PRIVATE Eye reports that Telegraph columnist Jasper Gerard – a sometime sports writer who surely needs billing as ‘Jaspie G’ - marked the first anniversary of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance by travelling to Portugal with his wife and two children.
He also, allegedly, took along a security guard for baby minding duties.
Sadly, the reported investigation was never published, it being said to be too revolting for the paper’s Travel Editor, although it may yet appear in the main news section…
Mr Gerard has not replied to the rumour…

Spin has a shorter shelf life than the truth - WMD in Iraq, Blair, Mandelson, Campbell, where are they now? Even George Bush’s chief spinner has now had a fit of conscience, people see through it eventually.
I actually think Tony Blair was a great PM but his reputation will forever suffer because of the WMD, CM take note.

What is the truth, if you know what it is for certain, perhaps you should contact the PJ, equally how do you know that Clarry is not telling the truth, you don’t same as the rest of us.

It would appear whatever the rights or wrongs of the situation, that the pink shirted one is rather more effective than the PJ.
………………..
Do you mean more effective at spinning (spinning the truth)?
Somw would agree that that appears to be the case in the UK, supported by the supine press. However, what about the rest of the world? It is difficult for me to guage from my comfy Middle England armchair but I am sure some of our foreign correspondents will be able to tell us if reportage in mainland Europe and the Rest of the World is so one-sided.

The investigation is ongoing.

The results so far, appear to rather negate your view.
May 29th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Not in my view however.

He is certainly far far less silent, but you know what they say about empty barrels?

7…Mr B
I understand that Clarence has been made aware of when he steps out
of line in the “spin” stakes and what may happen when he does.
His “Gloves are off” tirade which included the accusation that the PJ “leaked”
the “Madeleine crying” information led to a very sharp rebuke by the PJ and
a threat of possible Libel Suit by the PJ’s Union Representative.
Clarence has been rendered almost speechless since.

Clarence spins that the whole Tapas7 Group discussed and then decided not
to attend the Reconstruction.
Other reports indicate that 3 members of the Group were happy to attend
without any pre-conditions.
Is Clarence being truthful ?
Is Clarence lying ?
Is Clarence being misinformed ?
Is Clarence out of touch ?

Generally on this… is it right (forget morals and who his paymaster is), or should I say legal, for somone to ‘pontificate’ like this? Okay if it is all true but there is a thin line between untruths and spin, and obstruction and spin. If subsequently such mutterings turn out to be wholly false is there any come back on Clarry? I mean can any Joe Soap stand up and say what ever they like with impunity (notwithstanding slander of course)?
Mods and Admin
Finding out his legal position would be interesting, but I imagine as paid spokeperson, and if he is not corrected if he inadvertently or otherwise misrepresents, then the onus would be on the paymaster. But if he is corrected and maintains a stance anyway, he must be liable?????
But in Court, a barrister is not liable to be sentenced too if his client is found guilty, perhaps the law protects ’spokespersons’ then in the same way?
