Political Quote Of The Day: Jacqui Smith On ID Cards
SAYS the Rt Hon Jacqui Smith MP, the Home Secretary, on the matter of Id cards:
I know that ID cards will help me to prove more easily who I am
It’s that incredible…

On Radio 4’s “The News Quiz” it pointed out that 42 days was equal to the school summer holidays. So shop your kids as a terror suspect as school breaks up and let the state look after them.
It’s a winner…

Are they really saying that it may be necessary to incarcerate a man for up to 42 days on no more than the suspicion that he may have committed a crime, somewhere, sometime. It is not necessary to have all the evidence of all he may have done in order to charge, just sufficient evidence of any crime.
Before we so readily do this to a man just think what effect this is likely to have on the innocent. After 42 days are you likely to have a job to return to, will your house have been repossessed; will you have been evicted for non-payment of rent? And what if you are innocent, would you be happy with a mumbled apology and told to piss off.
This is just a load of flim flam. Keep the people scared it - makes them more compliant. We were conned into an illegal invasion of Iraq through trumped up fear, they are just trying to keep the fear going.

Too right. The pothead-in-denial was on some breakfast TV show or another (don’t know which, shiny set, inane presenters, I was hung over) banging on about why we need 42 days detention. Apparently, at some point in the future there may be a possibility that a case might arrive, which could, perhaps, under some circumstances, lead to a situation where the need for longer than 28 days might have to be considered. If that’s not the mumbled utterings of a paranoid pothead at 9 in the morning I don’t know what is. (I speak from personal experience). Hey man, what if like terrorists learned to clone monkeys and teach them extreme fundamentalist principles!? Far out man! Idiot. (Then again……George Bush)
