Newspapers Investigate Labour And Conservative Sleaze
SLEAZY POLITICAL debate and in the papers:
DAILY MIRROR: Watchdog to look at Spelman expenses”
“The Tory sleaze crisis deepened yesterday,” says the paper. The apparent crisis is that Caroline Spelman, Tory Party secretary, used her child’s nanny to answer calls made to her constituency phone line.
You want more? Can you handle more?
The paper says Nadine Dorries, another Tory MP, is said to have paid her daughter £7.50 an hour for six-week summer job in her office.
DAILY MAIL: EASTENDERS MEP pays gay lover £30,000 to be his secretary.”
It’s Michael Cashman, Labour MEP and former soap actor, who pays his partner a wage to work for him.
And, er, that’s it…

How many people running their own business are using their wives and sundry other to do things like answering the phones and then claiming tax relief for it?
Why do we never praise our politicians for their entrepreneurial efforts and ask that they do the same for our public services instead of lambasting them and insisting they employ as many bureaucrats as possible to run their private offices?
———————————————–
Have you ever looked at just how much money is spent by central government on ‘entrepreneurial’ management consultants?
The job used to to be done reasonably well by not very badly paid public servants.
Nowadays it’s done very badly by a load of hugely overpaid management consultants who couldn’t organise an orgy in a brothel…

Lol I expect the mention of ‘gay lover’ is to make you think its his sexcretary ? is it relevant?
All these inappropriate payments and nepotism makes me wonder whatever happened to the enforcement of equal opportunities legislation in MP and MEP recruitments ?

good point June - I think the reason people don’t care too much is probably because nothing ever seems to get done about it; the culprits claim “mistakes” and “oversights” - nobody ever really suffers as a consequence except the taxpayer..

Depends on who it is and how much. People who are overpaid can at least pay their own way and not use our money for personal matters, so yes we should care, they bank on us not caring
(sorry dire pun)

..do we really care?

what happened then? they run out of keyboards?, paper, ink.
Does Michael Cashman have two lovers then?
Shall they come back and tell us more? or are we to be speculating for ever more?
