David Davis Resigns Over 42 Days
WOW: Shadow home secretary David Davis has resigned as an MP.
He is to force a by-election in his Haltemprice and Howden constituency which he will fight on the issue of the new 42-day terror detention limit.
Mr Davis told reporters outside the House of Commons he believed his move was a “noble endeavour” to stop the erosion of British civil liberties.
The 59-year-old is one of the best known Tory MPs and his resignation came as a complete surprise in Westminster.
Vote Davis out or give Brown a boost - Hobson’s Choice…

don’t understand it all, if he was a man of principle and seeks to take it to the people, then why fight it in a constituency that he knows he can return a majority, fight it in a constituency where there is no clear majority, but then he may not get is job back! I do have a few unanswered questions. Does a resigning MP get severance pay i.e a lump of money, if so how much, who pays for the bye election, if it the local council and its estimated at 30K, i guess that a least one home help for a year that no one is going to see

Not being a political animal I don’t quite understand the purpose of this resignation to stand again? Surely if he was going to make a stand then he should have done it before the vote was sealed?
I do however lean towards Yampsters thinking on it….
‘going out in a blaze of glory…..’ springs to mind!

The BNP should fight this by-election. They people couldn’t give a monkey’s about 42 days!

If only Labour MPs would do the same.
Ah, no. It involves ‘principles’. Sorry. Stupid of me even to suggest it.

Then again a cynic might say . He is 59, too long in the tooth to remain on the Tory front bench for long after the next election and this will make a neat little chapter in his autobiography. ‘I fought the law and I won’ Hodder and Stoughton £19.99

Broon has made a bugger of just about everything he’s touched so far. I doubt that he’d chance his pogdy, grasping arm on a McCann related gamble.
It would almost certainly have the electorate championing the ‘they did it’ cause though. Whether they did or didn’t do it (whatever it is…) would be completely immaterial; the chance to get rid of Broon would be too good to miss.
I do see a snag in all this though: If Broon went, then the eejit Cameron would take his place …… oh dear!

Ok my try at linking Gordon Brown to MM.
David Davies has resigned as an MP over GB’s “42 days”. He is to force a by-election as, effectively, a referendum on the issue. So let’s copy the idea.
So, let’s get Brown to resign. He can stand again on the “they didn’t do it ticket” and somebody can stand against him on the “they did it” ticket.
If he is so sure of their innocence - he’ll back as PM in no time.

At last a member of parliament of principle!
No wonder he never made Tory leader.
