Madeleine McCann: Relocated To The Royal Court
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE TIMES: Relocated at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs, London SW1
Yesterday, the Telegraph’s Charles Spencer reviewed the play Relocated and thought of Madeleine McCann, the Soham murders and Josef Fritzl. He left out Shannon Matthews. Can the Times’ Sam Marlow do better at Tabloid Bingo!?
Anthony Neilson’s new play, written during the rehearsal period and finished just days before its opening, is claustrophobic and clotted with menace. It’s performed, in the author’s horribly compelling production, behind a black gauze, which turns from opaque to transparent with lighting changes.
It’s as though we can see through walls, glimpsing the terrors that can occur inside seemingly commonplace homes. It’s a nightmarish vision that calls to mind not just the recent Josef Fritzl case, but also Fred West, the Soham murders and the abductions of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews.
And a Fred West - Bingo!
DAILY RECORD: “Mccanns Alert Plea”
MADELEINE McCann’s parents will visit Strasbourg today to drum up support for a Europe-wide child abduction alert system. Gerry and Kate McCann, from Rothley in Leicestershire, still have to persuade 182 MEPs to sign up before July 20.Spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry are confident this can be achieved but they accept there’s a lot to be done.”
THE HERALD: McCanns lobby MEPs to win support for child abduction alert system
The couple visited Brussels in April to launch their campaign and have gained the signatures of 211 MEPs so far. They hope their presence at the other European Parliament building will help them reach the 393 mark.

The PJ will not give up
“Mr Monteiro said that the disclosure of the evidence would not affect the ongoing investigations or possibility of changes.
“The fact that the judicial secrecy is lifted has nothing to do with the development of the investigations.”
It does not mean because the files are going to be made public their status is going to be lifted either does it?
“The couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, hope the release of the files will lead to the lifting of their status as arguidos (official suspects) imposed last September”
If this was the case they would not “hope” and it would be all over the media
Note the opening of the files coincide with the end of july ,close of the plenary session at the european parliament ……

Ok people, who does this remind us of?”
It reminds me to my own experience with old movies. There are certain movie scenes which have impressed me when I saw them for the first time (great pun for example) , so that I think I remember them exactly. But when I saw this movie again after many years - well, it was all a bit different to what I recalled.

Well, of course!
After all, the incident in which a spiritual pigeon wearing a small black tie was accused of aiding and abetting penis stealing in Nigeria was clearly a dastardly trick, designed to undermine confidence in one of our most respected posters.
He’d been nowhere near Nigeria that week!

If Mr Brown thinks he’s going to be in power come next general election he is the most deluded person on the planet! Hazel Blears has lost them - she must go.

What was she doing with them on a pc in Salford?
I mean, why have files which can have nothing to do with her role as a constituency MP on a pc in her constituency office?
Seems extremely strange….

Good to see the BBC enquiring as to the nature of memory when it comes to eyewitnesses:
‘Some researchers … argue that this conventional model of memory – like a detailed photograph or video film – is fundamentally flawed.
One of the most prominent of these researchers, Prof Elizabeth Loftus of the University of California at Irvine, even says that courts should have a new oath for witnesses: “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, or whatever it is you think you remember?” ‘
Another researcher, Martin Conway, argues that memories are essentially a construct from a variety of sources and experiences. They are not necessarily a factual account of what happened.
What’s more, a significant proportion of people seem to be highly suggestible and will quite readily change what they remember if given appropriate cues.’
Ok people, who does this remind us of?

Affleck’s first film as a director, Gone Baby Gone, a harrowing tale of child abduction, is due to be released in the UK this week.
It received rave reviews when it came out in the US last year, but its release in Britain was postponed because of chilling parallels with the Madeleine McCann story.
Affleck has spoken about how becoming a father changed his perception of the film.
He said: ‘I started developing the movie a year or two before I became a parent.
‘I don’t think I would have been drawn to this subject or directed the film if I’d already had a child.
☆ ☆☆’Fatherhood made my opinions change from purely academic to acutely emotional.’ ☆ ☆ ☆

” I would imagine that if the veil of judicial secrecy is lifted then the Press must be able to gain access of sorts. ”
Do you expect that anything sensible will come from this?
There must be dozens of “ruled out” persons in the files, remember the pig farmer, the oddball Joaquim A. etc? So there might be a lot of juicy stories about innocent persons in the files, which the press could cherrypick, thereby violating privacy rights.
Or the files will be made public in a partially revised version, such as for example [waterboarding link].
————————————
I would imagine more than dozens; an inquiry like this will cover many hundreds of people. But if the files are to be made public at all, as the McCanns have repeatedly requested, they cannot be made public in a way which would enable the arguidos/arguida to misrepresent the contents of those files.
I see no fair alternative to public access to the information, with all that it entails. I think it would serve the cause of justice if the files remained secret, as they do in this country, but the Portuguese people have decided otherwise.
Judging from Clarrie’s silence in recent months it may have dawned on Team McCann that public access may not be an unalloyed joy…

Noseycow, I have spent over a year hoping for things that in reality aren’t going to happen.
I think the best we could hope for is that the PJ give some sort of pronouncement that they are not looking for anybody else in connection with this case. Thus leaving us to draw our own conclusion.
it would be something similar to yesterday regarding the ase of the father that murdered his children in his car. The police say it is suspicious but they are not looking for anyone else. We all get the message!

Interesting but I can find no news or the impending trial of these officers, since it was announced that they would face prosecution.
Can you enlighten me as to how you think the investigation was bungled? Please?

Any sign of an early release date??
——————————–
Not early, but I am hoping for Saturday
And I suspect that Clarrie really doesn’t know how to deal with someone playing hardball; all of his life has been in a highly protected environment, hence his running off with his tail between his legs after his gloves-off debacle.
Gordie doesn’t give a toss for Team McCann, he has more important things to worry about.
The Tories were never on board; doesn’t fit with the personal responsibility policy. Of course, David Cameron was head of corporate communications at Carlton, which probably means he never believed a word the McCanns and their spindoctors said in the first place…
Oh, and David Cameron, along with Gordie, knows what having a disabled child is like. Not much chance of leaving them alone and wandering off to wine and dine with friends. From what I know of Brown and Cameron, they wouldn’t want to; they may be politicians, but they don’t stoop that low…
