it is a weird situation in zimbabwe. reminiscent of afghanistan a few years ago… the taleban government really deserved a good kicking (especially when they began blowing up the giant buddhist statues).. but as soon as the USA went in there i began wanting the ‘little guys’ to force the americans out again. illogical, i know.
same as now in zimbabwe, the horrors inflicted on the zimbabwe people cries out for intervention from outside forces, but doing it in the style of afghanistan will immediately make me call for a stop to western interference in other country’s internal affairs.
i do wonder though, when looking at lots of other African countries, whether we are looking at zimbabwe through a colonial lens. we don;t continually report shock and dismay at the continuing horrors throughout that miserable continent. but wiht our old colonial outpost our outrage seems overcooked somewhat, considering Darfur, Somalia, Congo, and several other places where human rights abuses are apparently endemic.
fence it all off.

Yampster - current bid is 5.02
I have just read that inflation is now 1.6 million percent. Wait another 10 minutes and you will be able to pick it up for a quid. Having inspired my interest I have just read an article where one disgruntled shopper joked “we now have the worlds first million dollar banana”. Poor sods. On independence the ZD was worth 80 US cents. Nice one Mugarbe. As one of the worlds most brutal dictators I am sure he wakes up every day and thanks God that Zimbabwe has no oil deposits. There is nothing like the smell of oil in the morning to inspire in the west the desire to “liberate” populations.

That is better! Honestly, I was thinking thousands of dollars and having heart failure at the thoughts of being presented a bill like shown. That would be about $30 US and that is a real ’steal’ for dinner for two.

Inflation is currently running at 165,000%

Not sure what the exchange rate is now, but they have hyper hyper super inflation over in Zimbabwe, so probably about £15?

Dinner for “two” it says on the bill? And people talk about former Governor Spitzer in New York!
On a serious note - before I have total heart failure looking at that figure what does that convert into for UK pounds?
