Natural atrium light swamps his head and in a flash he’s almost on top of me, swapping his bag from one set of fingers to another and shaking my hand. His face contorts: he is an hour and a bit late and he’s sorry.
A halo?
Welsh’s jacket is reversible yellow. His T-shirt, in French, says “What would you do if this was the end of the world?” Well? “I don’t know,” he says, apparently uninspired by the question he is advertising.
Well, he could plug his new book: Crime:
“It’s the most difficult thing to write about,” says Welsh. “Child sex abuse tests the limits of our liberalism to the full. You have the whole idea of whether rehabilitation is possible or even desirable.” He was about halfway through the first draft when the Madeleine McCann story broke and forced him to stop writing for two months. “I couldn’t look at the novel or at the newspapers,” he says. “I thought I was never going to finish the book.”

Too true!!!!
Wasnt it reported early on after m went missing that kate and gerry had no problem sleeping? I found this to be so odd!! But the minute THEY are at risk, intruder alarms are installed to protect them!!! Who paid for them i wonder

I know, they leave defenceless babies to allsorts of dangers accidents, fire, intruders etc….but they install alarms to protect themselves
I bet if they hear a noise down stairs they send Sean and Amiele down with a baseball bat while kate does her make up and Gerry grabs his wallet!

so the mccs wanted intruder alarms to help them sleep better at night? They make me sick. If my daughter was missing i would resign myself to the fact that i would never sleep properly ever again!!!! Do they have no consciounce?

I must admit that whilst pondering the question of what, exactly, would constitute a ‘disturbing message’ to the McCann’s, there were several from Metodo3 that crossed my mind…..NO, no, no, perish the thought. Thoroughly libelous. Shan’t say it!!!!

It’s a pity they didn’t review the security surrounding Madeleine.

Anorak, the current Big Issue has an interview with Nick Davies on his new book Flat Earth News; it doesn’t mention Madeleine in the text but her picture is included in the photomontage along with Saddam Hussein and the World Trade Centre Towers.
He does however refer to Shannon Matthews:

MADELEINE McCann’s parents have installed panic alarms at their home after receiving threats.
Liverpool-born Kate McCann and husband Gerry are understood to have received offensive and menacing letters and emails, including two that threatened to kill them.
The couple have installed a state-of-the-art the security system at their £600,000 detached home in Rothley, Leicestershire.
The equipment, costing several thousand pounds, is understood to include CCTV and panic buttons in most rooms to alert police in an emergency.
Police are examining the threats to try to track down the senders. One of the most disturbing messages suggested an intruder would target five-year-old Madeleine’s bedroom.
Doctors Kate, 40, and Gerry, 39, have left the room unchanged since their daughter vanished from their holiday flat in Praia da Luz, Portugal, nearly 14 months ago.
A source close to the couple said yesterday: “They have had threats made against them which they find both very worrying and upsetting.
“Unfortunately there are some lunatics out there. There have been lots of offensive and vicious letters, with at least two talking about killing them.
“Security surrounding Kate and Gerry has been reviewed.
“It means they can sleep better at night. They will not let these people break them down.”
There was a surge in abusive mail arriving at the McCanns’ home , after they appeared in an ITV documentary last month.
The source said it is feared the couple’s high-profile visit to Strasbourg last week will trigger more.
Former Notre Dame high school pupil Kate and Gerry were in the French city to campaign for a Europe- wide alert system for abducted children.

WE wouldn’t. The rest of the world who have lived in isolation from the few facts and who have not thought much about the implications of what is known, would be in utter shock, horror, denial and surprise. People would demand their money back, demand immediate changes in the law, demand justice, and demand revenge for having been duped for so long.

they would/should have been asking very serious and probing questions of the
parents from very early on in the case.
