Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

As it is in open court we will find out on Monday.
Just out of noseyness - who decides whether a case will be heard in open court? and how common is this in the family court division?

Funnier still was Duncan’s assertion that he had not had sexual relations with that hippo.
oh noos. i missed that.
When challenged with which hippo he did have sexual relations with he changed the subject
the other ‘fathers’ have failed to comment so far…
i am not sure if i should ask this, but, the hippo gave birth ?

Monday’s case (according to the pink one) is McCanns petitioning the courts to get Leicester police force to release information about the investigation. Leciester Police have said that their files are covered by Portugal’s secrecy laws….
—————————————–
I don’t think that is correct.
There has been a claim that the Leicestershire police refuse to release the papers because of an agreement with the Portuguese authorities, but that is almost certainly Clarrie-spin.
Disclosure of information in this country is bound by specific legislation, which is why our police forces do not release information relating to criminal investigations; the law provides that such information is undisclosed for at least 30 years, and possibly longer.
I really don’t know what is happening, but I’m fairly confident that Clarrie is about as reliable as Teflon Tony…

Monday’s case (according to the pink one) is McCanns petitioning the courts to get Leicester police force to release information about the investigation. Leciester Police have said that their files are covered by Portugal’s secrecy laws….
It is however interesting that they are in the family courts, and discussion has been had about whether they can petition the courts to do this on Madeleine’s behalf as she a Ward or Court….we shall see on monday no doubt.
Ameral - retired last week. He was in charge of the investigation in the early days and was removed for speaking to the press about the McC’s public relations strategy interferring with the investigation…
He is facing charges for covering up for some of his officers who are being charged with beating a confession out of the mother of another missing girl.
Interesting that since the portugese prosecuter decided that the police officers should face trial (Ameral is NOT being charged with the beating but for covering it up) nothing further has been releasedabout this and no court date has been set (that we can find anyway).
In relation to his recent statements (madeleine died in the apartment - and the parents are involved in either accidentally killing her or…) I have been pondering just who’s side he is on…

Oh and rumour has it that the Tapas 7 are sueing the Express
and Gloria returned briefly today only to find that she has had another little smudlett - you can find the picture posted earlier.
She was suprised to say the least, but has refused to comment on rumours that the baby hippo’s father is either Duncan, Saul, Ade, Gandolf, Matt, Christiano Ronaldo or Will Smith.
It is widley expected that she will appear on a ‘popularly crap’ daytime tv programme for DNA sampling of the suspected fathers

Thanks Nosey
So which case is to be held on Monday then?
And please confirm, was the detective the one who was sacked/forced to resign, associated with the beaten woman/mother etc?
July 5th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Good evening all.

annie - take some piccys and upload them for us _ PLEASE
Spongebob
a quick over veiw for you…
The period that the case is covered by the ’secrecy ‘ laws ends on July 14th (? or there abouts) - it is anticipated that the files will become ‘public’ mid august, following the judicial holiday
The McCanns released information stating that Madeleine was made a Ward of Court soon after her disapearance.
The McC’s are taking the Leicestershire police to court to try and get them to release information about the case. (according to the mcc’s)
Portuguese press reported that the case will be shelved.
Uk press reported that the McC’s will be cleared, based on portuguese press reports - see above.
Portuguese officials have confirmed that the investigation is over and the files have been given to the prosecuter, and that they will decide which steps to take (shelved/charges/further investigation).
Ameral - the detective origionally on the case (removed for talking out of school) retired and has been giving interveiws, and is publishing a book about the case.
Press reports say that the McC’s court hearing vs Leicester Police has been postponed.
Rumour has it that the McC’s have employed new UK based detective agency…
Court listings confirm that the case will be heard on Monday in the Family Court division, by Justice Hogg in open court, so we will finally get some truth (about something)
…..
i think that just about covers it.

Would be really good if someone from anorak could attend, download pics etc
July 5th, 2008 at 12:05 am
I recon clarrie will be standing at the door of the courtroom photographing everyones eyeballs - like at the immigration desk!! I can see it now. “Right hand forefinger here, left hand thumb print here, STAND STILL - photograph your iris!!..now then what’s your handle on Anorak??” …………I shall be back in the UK on Monday - god and the plane willing ………I might just go, even if I dont get in, it would be interesting to hang around outside and “view”

I was told by coolandcalm that because m was woc that her case would never be heard in an open court
July 5th, 2008 at 12:00 am
noseycow
thankyou for that, the only reason they would postpone imo is the latest revelation in portugese press re shelving of the case, but hey knew the files would become public anyway, i dont understand the reason for them taking the leicester police to court. Have had too much of the sacred grape, hubby watching “zodiac”, another true story with no conclusion!

I am not restricted in my style of pants, whatever the rumour
OK, bit out of touch.. what is being heard in court. And is this person who was quoted the fat, drunken (allegedly) one?
July 4th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I don’t know much about how the courts operate, I assume that it would be their decision to have it ‘open’ and not the petitioners, but am not sure.
Where’s chenier and Carmen when you need them?
