Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

How are you?
What is your take on the Monday court hearing? I agree that it is unlikely to be what the pink one has been spinning… so what do you think it’s about?
———————————-
I don’t know.
The Mirror is at least now not pretending that it is about those nasty Portuguese, and suggests that the Leicestershire police are simply refusing to provide information since it is part of a criminal investigation.
If you want to make a request for information you have to have the legal standing to do so, and since M is a WOC the McCanns don’t have it, the Court does.
But that only takes them as far as making the request; from that point on there is a clear though lengthy path through the thickets of the legislation.
None of which includes the Family Court…

It is such a sad fact of life that it is often ‘known and trusted’ family members or close freinds who are responsible.
I don’t know what the answer is, but suffice to say that kids should know that their bodies are theirs alone, and noone has the right to do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, not a doctor a teacher, a mother, a grandfather…
But even this may not be enough as these people often threaten the safety of other family members in order to get kids to keep quite.
I feel for Brookes father, he made a series of decisions that protected his adult relative over his child, and he has learned the hard way that he was wrong.

Chenier,
I’d say chances are good that when that Amber Alert was issued, that is probably about the time that the uncle killed Brooke IMO.

Julie, do you mean Diane Webster? she isn’t MM’s gran, so could we use names to clarify, please

Thank-you Jo, I appreciate that.
It certainly cuts in half the list of potential witnesses doesn’t it?
Not the Irishman, then, and not the waiter.

I forgot to mention that whilst Brooke’s father and stepmother knew the uncle was a convicted sex offender who had kidnapped and gravely sexually assaulted an 18 year old girl, they never said anything about it to Brooke, because:
“That’s not something you tell a little girl”
That would be the 12 year old ‘little girl’ kidnapped and found dead a week later.
However, her father now wishes it to be known that:
‘”It’s not just strangers you’ve got to watch out for.”

why would they confess to ‘child abandonment’ in order to cover upp for ‘child abandonment’ ?
Is it better that she was abducted because they weren’t there or that she had an accident because they weren’t there?
Can’t see it myself

That’s probably because you have a sweet disposition.
If you care to plod your way through the ever more distressing reports about the disappearance of Brooke Bennett, who was 12, and the eventual finding of her body a few miles from her uncle’s home, you will see that the girl’s uncle, currently under arrest, put together an elaborate plan to make it appear that the girl had been the victim of someone she met on the web who was a part of a child-abduction ring.
The police were so obssessed with paedophile gangs abducting strangers that they managed to overlook the point that the girl was last seen in the company of her uncle, who was convicted in 1993 of kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault on an 18 year old girl, and sentenced to 6-20 years.
Indeed, they were so obsessed that they issued the first ever Amber Alert warning in Vermont.
Had they followed the blindingly obvious they might have found the girl while she was still alive.
It is amazing how useful the cry of abduction by a paedophile gang can be…

See what you mean. This is why the Mcs said they went to unit and found Maddie gone. Covers all probabilities as to what actually happened to Maddie.

Ameral is playing right into team McC’s hands at the moment.
He is giving them all the ammunition that they need to shout ‘frame up - not investigating every possibility and incompetent’
Do you think he may be ON TEAM MCC’s SIDE?

Insp. Amaral is careful to say he thinks Maddie died in the apartment. Perhaps it was a fall or overdose and the Mcs not wanting to bring attention to the fact they had left her alone, didn’t take her for medical treatment, and Maddie’s condition worsened and they covered up. IMO probably it. Being doctors and on their high horses too, their careers would be over if charges were to be laid against them. I do have the feeling still the Maddie was a burden to Kate, and most probably IMHO not hers.

Thirteen months after Madeleine had disappeared, the PJ concludes an investigation which is still marked by uncertainty. Looks like Insp. Amoral knows a lot more than he is willing to say in public, except in his book. More like it, really, that Maddie met with foul play elsewhere and was taken to the unit, but died there.
