Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

The problem with the type of person that Brooke’s uncle was is that they are very sly and manipulative, and often, no matter what you’ve told your children about how there are “bad touches” and “good touches” these people can bribe children and lull them into a false sense of security.
——————————-
The guy isn’t a paedophile, there is no record of him ever going after a girl or boy pre puberty.
I’m sure that he was sly and manipulative, but the fact remains that the girl was unable to protect herself because nobody gave her the information she needed to know to protect herself.
The uncle had forced an 18 year old girl into his car and raped her several times.
He choked her with a rope around her neck, gagged her with a cloth and handcuffed her.
He was sentenced to 6-20 years for kidnapping and rape.
If the 12 year old girl had known that she might not have got into the car with him…

Guardian ad litem. Literally the person the court appoints to do all the running around, interview everyone necessary, report back to the court and generally ensure that everything that is done is being done in the child’s best interests.

Precisely - which has had me wondering for days why he wasn’t making any mileage out of the fact that there had to be a GAL involved once the WOC was announced.
Then I saw the two consecutive applications……and remembered that what he said was…..
MM is, is, is, a WOC and, and, and, the McCanns are making an application.

If you look at the court list for Monday, at source, not the one posted on here, there are two separate consecutive cases listed for J Hogg.
From the file names, both are private law, and about 150 files apart - not more than a few days then. One heard in open court, one in chambers.
Would make sense to me if they were both concerning essentially the same matter.
Perhaps one is GAL making an application in chambers, and one is the McCann’s making an application which Hogg has chosen to hear in open court?
Perhaps a grain of obscured truth in Clarrie’s declaration that the McCann’s were making a declaration and that MM is a WOC?
Perhaps one party didn’t like the application the other party was making - and one is designed to elicit truth and one to conceal it?
Your thoughts?
———————————-
Now that is a very intriguing idea.
I commented yesterday, I think, that the long and winding trail to the Information Tribunal would cost a medium sized fortune in legal fees, with very little chance of success, and that I could not see how Madeleine’s best interests could be served by that.
Clarrie didn’t claim that the GAL and the McCanns were making the application; he didn’t mention the GAL at all.
Of course, the long and winding trail is far longer than the six weeks to the projected August date of disclosure of the Portuguese files, and again it is difficult to see how this could genuinely be intended to benefit Madeleine, as opposed to providing pr for her parents…
It is certainly possible that the McCanns have been unable to convince the GAL that this is in Madeleine’s interests. The GAL may be opposing it, and the GAL may be seeking an order to shut Clarrie up.
I would like to be a fly on the wall in chambers on Monday
Incidentally, the Mirror says the McCanns will not be present since they are on holiday; I do hope they manage not to mislay another one. Of course they will, no doubt, be following it closely by texts…

If there was a murder, where is the body?
Isso era o que íamos apurar a seguir. That was what we would find out the next. No dia em que fui demitido, estava a realizar diligências para que uma testemunha fundamental viesse a Portugal. On the day when I was dismissed, was to perform acts that a key witness were to Portugal. Era preciso que a PJ pagasse a viagem, que arranjasse alojamento e isso estava a ser tratado. It was necessary that the PJ to pay travel, accommodation and find that it was being treated. Mas depois a testemunha importante nunca veio a Portugal e nunca chegou a ser ouvida. But after the witness was never important to Portugal and was never heard.
The direction of research, murder, was harass political power?
Este caso foi mais político do que policial. This case was more political than police.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The words of Amaral Portuguese and English.
He states his dismissal was a political decision.
He states the case is a political case as opposed to a police case, I happen to believe him.
Anyone who knows anything about the mess that was and is still to this day Casa Pia, will realise that the present lead in the Madeleine case is the ideal pliable political appointment, {EDIT and in my opinion } the cover up is at the Portuguese end not the British.

So the only thing we know, is that he/she is not living in Portugal.
Seems we don’t even know, if he he/she has been interviewed before
If it is a new one [and where did I read about TWO witnesses?] it may take some time before we will now.

But Julie is right often these people are highly and cleverly manipulative, I can imagine that he had his family firmly believe in the errors that lead to his previous conviction, non of them his doing of course.

It is such a sad fact of life that it is often ‘known and trusted’ family members or close freinds who are responsible.
I don’t know what the answer is, but suffice to say that kids should know that their bodies are theirs alone, and noone has the right to do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, not a doctor a teacher, a mother, a grandfather…
But even this may not be enough as these people often threaten the safety of other family members in order to get kids to keep quite.
I feel for Brookes father, he made a series of decisions that protected his adult relative over his child, and he has learned the hard way that he was wrong.

Chenier,
I’d say chances are good that when that Amber Alert was issued, that is probably about the time that the uncle killed Brooke IMO.
——————————————————
Well, the autopsy results are not yet available, and the prosecutors are playing down murder charges in the near future.
They have a kidnapping charge which potentially involves the death penalty anyway.
But yes, one way or another it seems likely that the Amber Alert sealed her fate…
