Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

Parenting orders alongside other court action
Parenting orders are available alongside any other court proceedings involving children or young persons up to17 years old where:
an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) has been made in respect of the child or young person
a sex offender order has been made in respect of a child or young person; (s60 Violent Crime Reduction Act); or
a child or young person has been convicted of a criminal offence.
a parent is prosecuted for a child’s poor attendance at school (s443 or 444 Education Act 1996)
a child or young person has been made subject to a child safety order or has failed to comply with the terms of a child safety order.
the order would be desirable in the interests of preventing any repetition of the behaviour that led to the court proceedings.
if a child or young person is given a referral order (Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000)
when a parent is referred back to court by a youth offender panel for failing to attend panel meetings. (Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000)
A court’s discretion or obligation to make an order
A court is obliged to make a parenting order for situations described in 1 and 3 above if it is satisfied that it is desirable to do so in the interests of preventing further offending or anti-social behaviour by the young person.
Where the court is not satisfied that a parenting order is desirable it must state this in open court and explain why.
When making a referral order the court retains discretion whether to make a parenting order.

2189 Maravilha….
I have read this statement from Amaral, that she died in the apartment but was not killed there.
Many people seem to interpret this as that she was killed somewhere else. Could it not possibly mean that she died in the apartment, but was not killed by the act of another? That is, an accidental death?
How could someone be killed in one place and die in another? Attacked and injured in one place, and die in another, yes. But “killed” means that one is dead, so how is it possible to be killed somewhere other than where one dies?

well it worked with their eldest…
and on that note I’m off to bed.
We’re off to a family party being held by the ‘outlaws’ on the moro - and I’m SSSOOOO looking forward to it…
nite all be good.
ps tris - read it - thanks for that
July 5th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
From what I have read today, the PJ are pretty sure she is dead but can not prove who did it. They are very positive that she was not Kidnapped. So we must assume someone killed her and hid her body - well I wonder who that could have been!!!!!

Which we so often take for granted…
So you don’t think that this coincided with any child or children (which may or may not have had a high public profile) being made a WoC???

Pure coincidence!
Only a deeply twisted person could possibly question the McCanns’ apparent desire to ensure that every nutter in the world would know exactly what the twins looked like…

July 5th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
I just read somethings about Maddy.
Did I read it well, she was killed somewhere else but died in the apartment?
What could this mean? Did somebody else abused her somewhere and the parents brought her to the apartment, where she died?
And the parents could not talk about it?
Were the parents and Maddy together in another location, with friends, when something happened?
Were Kate and Maddy together with a third person, in another location, and something happened?

July 5th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Noseycow, say if it can be shown that it would be beneficial for the twins to go on holiday with their parents, and say if there will be plenty of supervison from the extended family, or if someone from SS goes on the trip too - I dunno, I’m not saying you’re wrong, but its not impossible I guess to be given special permission to go on a short holiday.
good night again!
July 5th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Help - I replied to a telegraph article where I thought everyone was free to comment - I said when the reporter commented it was reasonable risk what the McCanns said what they did the night of the 3rd May assuming it was the 3rd of May, I said I did not believe it was “reasonable risk2 my comment I believe was censored. But can not prove this as can not find the article again - it seems to be removed!!!!

Parenting Orders aren’t available for children under 10
July 5th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
There is a short story by Ursula LeGuin called “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas”. For some reason the McCann case calls it to my mind. A beautiful city (or beautiful house) and perfect lives made possible by the suffering of one defenseless person. Most who benefit accept it but a few do not.
It only takes about 10 minutes to read… here is the text in full. Please enjoy.

Is it likely that permision would be granted?
Say (hypothetically) that two parents were (hypothetically) named suspects in the dissapearance of one of their children . And say Social Services had become involved (maybe by invitation), and had deemed (hypothetically) that the parents should not be alone with their remaining children (for example), why would a judge decide that they could have the childrens passports and ‘dissapear’ across the water to foreign climes???
(Hypothetically you understand)

Thanks i didn’t know that, nor do I know the source of the seemingly limitless supply of money to pay for top lawyers in every field. I know there’s money in double glazing, but not an infinite amount.
If Michael Nicholls understands what’s going on then he’s a cleverer man than me - as I’m sure he does and I’m sure he is!!!
Gandolf you’ve got me thinking about Parental Orders.
Must go, good night everybody and may your God go with you.

The decision not to go to Ireland was odd for a number of reasons. But I think even if the twins were wards of court it is likely that persmission would have been given for them to go to Ireland for a short family holiday. Agree though about the timing with the twins faces, I remember thinking that was a pointless step because their pictures had already been all over the media.

mmmm let me think about that one…
I don’t think my attitude has much to do with her breast size (though I have been known to covert boobs that don’t need the constant constraints of an ‘over the shoulder boulder holder’ )
For me it was the earings… i am just SSOOOO jealous of her extensive collection!
