Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

And it’s always stupid to say that you are taking legal actions ‘reluctantly’; if you don’t believe in your case, why should the judge?
Exactely
They are very very stupid and so are their very very high flying extradition lawyers
Who goes high……

‘The McCanns are ‘reluctantly’ taking Leicestershire Constabulary to the High Court tomorrow to make it hand over any evidence it collected during liaisons with its Portuguese counterparts in the hunt for Madeleine.
It is believed that the force refused to open its files to the McCanns, who believe British police may have received calls from members of the public which could be helpful to private detectives working for the family.’
Oh, that’s hilarious!
Apparently the Mail is wholly oblivious to the existence of the Freedom of Information legislation, which seems somewhat implausible given that the media quite frequently use its provisions. Can it be that the Mail is being less than wholly truthful on this?
The website of the Leicestershire police has this to say:
‘Information concerning police investigations
Police investigations are conducted with due regard to the confidentiality and privacy of victims, witnesses and suspects.
Such investigations may also frequently involve the use of policing tactics or techniques that, if widely known, would hinder the ability of the police service to prevent and detect crime. It is further recognised that the release of information concerning current investigations may compromise any subsequent court proceedings.
For these reasons the police service will, in most cases, seek to apply an exemption to prevent the release of information concerning investigations when requested under the Freedom of Information Act, 2000.
Whilst adopting this general position, there is full recognition that in some cases there will be significant and compelling issues of public interest that require the disclosure of information.
However, to override issues of personal privacy and possible harm to individuals involved in the investigation, this public interest must be significantly more than mere curiosity or interest in a particular investigation.
In order to ensure that these public interest issues are fully considered, all applications for information concerning investigations will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the requirements of the Act.’
That is a standardised wording used by all the police forces websites that I’ve bothered to check.
I won’t bother repeating my previous posts on the contents of the legislation and the appeal procedures; suffice it to say that there is nothing in there about the High Court being able to override the legislation.
And it’s always stupid to say that you are taking legal actions ‘reluctantly’; if you don’t believe in your case, why should the judge?

“The McCanns are ‘reluctantly’ taking Leicestershire Constabulary to the High Court tomorrow to make it hand over any evidence it collected during liaisons with its Portuguese counterparts in the hunt for Madeleine”
Is “reluctantly” clarrie”s new word?
I dont think the court is going to make the Leicester cops hand over any file even “reluctantly”
They are very very stupid, aint they?

Yes, the aim seems not to be clear and I am surprised that the Mccs are not here to attend. Undoubtedly a decision they thought to be best; it may well not turn out to be that way. On the other hand, everything they do can be construed by some to be evil/negligent/moneygrabbing, so…

I do like it here so much more friendlier than the dark place, surely you have noticed BF, they do appear to be in a state of shell shock over in orcland, a thread on the reputation of the FSS is the epitome of paranoia. Surely you don’t believe such an august body is corrupt.

July 6th, 2008 at 12:12 am
I have no issue with the doubters, but if you are a doubter, then doubt all the evidence rather than gleefully accept that which suits your agenda
The same, you might argue can be be said of the McCann ’supporters’, bizarre term as it is. I do frequently. Provision of evidence of the transporting of a body will change my mind.

I shall be interested to see just how much of what Amaral is alleged to have said turns out to be what he did say; we have been down this path before and on that occasion it turned out to be an exercise in creative writing by some journalists.
But the reality is that when Justice Hogg hears whatever application is being made to her on Monday, Clarrie’s twaddle about begging the PJ giving them the files ‘for the love of God’ is going to be a severe embarrassment to Counsel, as is his claim that the Portuguese legal system is immoral and inhumane.
As for his wittering on about going to the Family Court ‘as any parents would do’, it may go down well with the tabloid writers but Judges in the Family Court are only too well aware of just what some parents do. And it really isn’t nice…

Maybe cardiac arrest somewhere and pronounced dead in the apartment, after attempts of resuscitation.
Doctors think that way.
Was not Diana’s case, probably dead at 2.10am and “died at 3.00 am”according to her doctors?
