Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

I also like that one very very much from clarrie
“Kate and Gerry McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “It’s a great shame that Mr Amaral is saying these things. He should have found Madeleine as the police officer in charge.”
Perhaps he did indeed find all that remained. The odd drop of blood, and traces of other bodily fluids. Perhaps the rest was so well disposed of that it simply does not exist any longer, or could never be identified as being Madeleine. Poor little abandoned and neglected mite.

‘destroying all possible evidence’
I don’t think that is possible, though people may undoubtedly try; the person or persons who murdered the two French students here apparently set fire to the bodies and the flat in the hope of destroying incriminating evidence, but I doubt they succeeded.
Archeologists worry about digging stuff up because they are sure that there will be technological advances which will let them do it better in the future, with much less risk of destroying the evidence that they seek.
I assume that the same holds good for science in general; for example, there has been very little work done on mtDNA, so far.
My own view is that it’s because it ’s up to now thought to be only about women, as opposed to the important half of the species, men. Sexism is far from absent when judgements are made about what is important and what isn’t
But stuff is gradually coming online, not least that there appears to be some male parental contribution, and we don’t know what science five years down the line will hold on this and other aspects.
So no, I don’t think it’s ever possible to destroy all evidence; if it were the request for the phone information would have been moot, since it would have been destroyed. There is a big difference between inadmissable evidence, and no evidence at all…

He is certainly hinting at Amaral but that is “normal”,init?
The mccanns CAN make money selling their very kid, others have to shut up or be sure to be sued
Anyhow,it is sad for the PJ because even though they have tons of clues and leads of Ms death the mccanns have been very clever, destroying all possible evidence. This is a personal comment but I always leave the chance/possibility for a break through and in this case….one never knows
Isnt it bizarre it all turns up before the tomorrow court case? what do you believe now this court case is about?

Hey!!!! A ghost
I am being very naughty bombarding the thread with links and articles
I think it helps a little bit and hopefully it will help us all to understand the emerging “picture” of this complicated puzzle.
Naturally,it is always better and more than ever to wait for absolutely official news and I believe it wont be very long now but one thing is certain :the case is far from being shelved

“Mr Mitchell hit back: “It’s a great shame that people seem more interested in making money out of Madeleine’s disappearance instead of helping the search for her.
********************
Let’s see, on that list of people who are making money out of Madeleine, instead of searching the sand dunes for her - or possibly her remains, we have……
Ah yes! Mr Mitchell on £70,000 a year,
Justine Guinness, forget how much,
An entire cabal of lawyers,
Various UK newspapers who only seem interested in printing Mr Mitchells PR releases (so much easier with the added advantage that they will be writ free),
Wrist band manufacturers,
T-shirt manufactures,
Poster printers,
But surely he was referring to Amaral in that statement? - no can’t be, Amaral’s profits are going to a Portuguese children’s charity.

Is everybody down at the beach then?
July 6th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Obviously, the mccanns are not reluctant in having a rabid tantrum
Read what clarrie says.Its hilarious
“Mr Mitchell hit back: “It’s a great shame that people seem more interested in making money out of Madeleine’s disappearance instead of helping the search for her.
The report is also said to reveal “new and serious” doubts about the McCanns’ claim Maddie was abducted. They strenuously deny neglecting their children.”
Lets see the outcome of the court hearing which has actually never been cancelled and was stead on but clarrie found a way to make a diversion because somehow he knows whats coming up

This is a last september article I am afraid but very much “à propos”
“If the McCanns are put on trial over the death of their daughter Madeleine it could be at least two years before there is a verdict, a Portuguese litigator said”

OK, this is a bit better:
‘Kate and Gerry McCann will launch a High Court bid on Monday to see police files on Madeleine, their missing daughter. The McCanns want to see files held by Leicestershire police, who worked with the Portuguese authorities. Portuguese police recently handed the case files to prosecutors.’
a snippet from the Times, in brief.
Note the word ‘prosecutors’ as opposed to closed, shelved, gathering dust etc..

jajajajajaja…. As I expected, the “final report” says nothing
nothing new,nothing people dont know
The final report will be given by the prosecutor when the secrecy is lifted but still, not everything will be revealed and the door will be left ajar for a ….break through as it happens very often

A 3g iphone sounds impressive; the offspring is in New York, surrounded by vast numbers of tempting toys, and some quite nice electronics, too.
I’m at the other end of the spectrum; I dropped my mobile in the bath and my pay as you go sim card is buggered, which is irritating since it had £3.50 left on it, and , more importantly, my number, which I would like to keep.
I’m sure you are right about it being more buggered up PR; Clarrie never seems to learn. The last person to seriously piss off a Family Court Judge was Heather Mills, and she got a published judgement which tore her to shreds as a result.
I wonder if the same thing will happen to the McCanns?
