Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

Good morning and a continuing saga……
Dunno how they manage to relate everything to the infamous mccanns
“These are the words that will give fresh heart to Kate and Gerry McCann this week: “Don’t give up… because miracles DO happen.”
Why THIS week?
Is somefin happening “this” week?oh….yes….a miracle of course
http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/news/sunday/2008/07/06/i-was-snatched-from-my-bed-as-a-child-and-chained-up-for-9-months-never-give-up-98487-20633444/
__________
You don’t know, JO, “how they manage to relate everything to the infamous mccanns”? A fact I guess you have overlooked in your rants, rages, speculations, condemnations of the McCanns - a small child is missing by the name of Madeleine McCann and she belongs to them, they left her alone one night in a room with her two young siblings, in a foreign country, which had had paedophile activity in the past. These people want their child back - yes she is missing because of their stupid act of neglect.
Every parent who has had a child go missing feels deep compassion and heartbreak for them, having once walked in their shoes, and understands only too well the hell they are going thru, the horrendous guilt they must feel inside but are taking great pains not to show in public. People who have been through it - and even those out there with kindness in them who haven’t - are giving them support, encouragement and hoping against hope that they will find their child. That is why now there are stories being published about children that have been found alive over here after years of being missing. Is it giving them false hope? I don’t know but every parent who has had a child go missing never stops hoping NEVER that someday they will be found and brought home.
Frankly, Jo, for people who condemn them with ugly speculations without knowing the real facts yet as to what happened to that dear child once she was left alone in that apartment will find my thoughts of them between shit and syphillis in the dictionary!
M and A
Cheryl, the dear parents left the dear children 5 nights on their own in a foreign country……

The Guardian really should be ashamed of itself in wittering on about the Family Court having jurisdiction over Freedom of Information applications:
Guardian Newspapers v Information Commissioner [2007] UKIT EA_2006_0017 (05 April 2007)
The Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police was an Additional Party to the appeal, which involved the Guardian asking for access to the police’s papers on the trial at the Central Criminal Court in 1979 at which Jeremy Thorpe, David Holmes, George Deakin and John Le Mesurier were charged with conspiring and Mr.Thorpe additionally with inciting Holmes to murder Mr. Scott.
All were acquitted on all charges.
The Information Tribunal upheld the refusal by the police and the Information Commissioner to make the police papers available.
I really don’t think the Guardian has managed to entirely forget the existence of its failed appeal, nor the route wich it took in making the application.
So why isn’t it pointing this out in its reportage of Clarrie’s claims?

veritablequandary
Yes
As I said earlier step 1 is neglect….lets see what is going to come out of step one
The case is not “filed”-in the sense of sheved- and it very much “on” and will be as long as the prosecutor decides the outcome.
So far,the mccanns have a grim prospect at the horizon, havent they?
Where are they in holidays?
I guess in their back garden this year playing with Eddie & Keela and counting their fast speed disappearing cash
It seems they have been swallowed in the entrails of earth ….but it wont be for very long.I doubt very much they are abroad in a Schengen space …..

I was expecting this anser but in that case, I doubt very much the court is going to allow it .It is obvious it is not to help in the search for Madeleine…..especially after all the news true and false we had over the last days

“Processed in court” would be here appropriate
It would nice if I had the complete sentence because the context is very important when using specific terminology and jargon

If the PJ know she wasn’t abducted, and have evidence, isn’t there a charge such as “obstuction of justice?” Fraud, comes to mind too.

Two words: controlling information.
——————————-
Four words:
Attempts at controlling information.
I think it is significant that the only ‘reputable’ newspaper talks about the hearing tomorrow like this:
‘Kate and Gerry McCann will launch a High Court bid on Monday to see police files on Madeleine, their missing daughter. The McCanns want to see files held by Leicestershire police, who worked with the Portuguese authorities. Portuguese police recently handed the case files to prosecutors.’
Difficult to see that a Court here, and I suppose the Information Tribunal here is a Court, would even begin to contemplate disclosing information from papers which have been sent to the DPP….

Oh yes,Peter…the rest was very well removed. We must not forget the pair is a pair of very unethical medics but stil medics
Amaral was removed….5 months later? isnt this a bit bizarre?
Yes,poor poor little mite but you know, justice is on its way for her because the mccanns are in for neglect even though I doubt very much they will purge their sentence behind bars on account of the unbelievable support they had since the start. What will remain is the image of suspicion which will never leave them.
July 6th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Jo, you are good with languages so maybe you can help me sort through the varied meanings of “filed.” Gandolf yesterday was interpreting “filed” as meaning shelved or archived. And that meaning was reported. That is a meaning I understand, too. But filed in court can also mean put into process. (I filed for divorce, e.g.) Could the various reports of the case having been archived or shelved have meant the opposite, put into process? Not knowing Portuguese I can only surmise, but it does not after all appear that the case has been shelved.

July 6th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
On the program Anatomy ao a Mistery (Sandra Felgueiras, RTP , see McCannfiles) Sandra inerviews a man at I think at the Tapas Bar
and he tells about the presence of Gerry and Maddy at that place at 5.10 pm, both dancing and having fun together. The video which shows this was taken by the PJ.
At first I thought the man was mistaken about the time because the baby sitters of the creche said Maddy was picked up about 6.00 pm.
And the McCanns said the same.
But it seems the man was right. See Correio da Manhã of today, Joana Morais.
