Madeleine McCann: More Evidence, Tony Parsons Knows And Claims
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MAIL: “McCanns win right to see key evidence about Madeleine’s disappearance held by police”
The parents of Madeleine McCann today won the right to see key documents held by police relating to her disappearance.
Won?
The McCanns had planned to take Leicestershire Police to the High Court but no case was heard as the force agreed to give them access to 81 pieces of information gathered as part of the investigation.
Progress? Elsewhere, in the same online article:
The couple, who are both 40, are not expected to attend today’s hearing in London before Mrs Justice Hogg…The hearing is scheduled to take place in the High Court’s family division, although it will be held in open court.
Such is the news.
DAILY MIRROR: “Portuguese police to rule out Madeleine McCann abduction theory”
Portuguese police have decided that Madeleine McCann could not have been abducted, it was claimed yesterday.
Claimed.
They believe the youngster died in her family’s rented holiday flat in Praia da Luz.
Believe.
The newspaper Correio da Manha said a 50-page report, handed to prosecutors last week, reveals “new and strong doubts” about Gerry and Kate McCanns’ claim that their daughter was snatched.
So says a report about a report in a Portuguese newspaper.
TONY PARSONS: A case of cruelty
It happens less and less these days, simply because the story of Madeleine McCann is slipping from the news.
But every time that little girl’s face appears on the TV screen, our five-year-old daughter looks up and says exactly the same five words: “Did they find Madeleine yet?”
That little girl, the one who disappeared.
Somebody knows something. Almost certainly more than one person knows something. It’s not enough to shrug and walk away.
The Mirror’s Lori Campbell didn’t shrug.

Sometimes a good rag, agreed. Can be rather dry. But they have journalists who do occasionally investigate, rather than regurgitating PA feeds day after day
Still, mentioned the taking of M from her parents

Well, there are now two newspapers which have admitted the involvement of both SOCA and the Attorney General in the case.
And there’s a delightful piece of lawyers’ wording produced by Counsel for the Chief Constable for Leicestershire, James Lewis QC:
‘the police felt it was vital to balance the understandable desire of the McCanns to have as much information as possible against the risks of compromising the continuing criminal investigation, damaging future international co-operation and breaching Portuguese law.’
Of course, the desire would be equally understandable if the McCanns knew nothing about how Madeleine came to disappear, and if they knew a great deal about how Madeleine came to disappear…

I’ve been really interested reading all about the happenings of today. Not been able to comment yet as I think there’s more to come out/be revealed.
Very interesting though!

Yes.
McCanns only trusted with a tiny amount of early-day files.
Police satisfied.

Garth is just a joke, but will no doubt benefit from his wider agenda.

Yes Marv exciting developments, we discovered there are eleven thousand files, McCanns posse to get 81 of them, eleven thousand files and not one fuker charged, you really couldn’t make it up, maybe it’s a job lot of nail files, they would appear to be of more use than the ones they have………all eleven thousand of them.

She is a Justice, and her words and profession carry great weight. I should urge you not to disparage what she says, you will be the loser

The last paragraph is interesting.
How I read it, the Police are saying, basically this court case has been a waste of everybody’s time.

Which could better have been devoted to actually conducting the criminal investigation…

And there’s the Herald, which probably doesn’t count because it is a Scottish newspaper which occasionally seems to take things seriously:

It’s almost as if there is a rule whereby Clarrie’s press release is regurgitated, and then after that the journalist is allowed to report what really happened…

Almost spot on about the Plymouth Ho I reckon. That’s on Garth days though.
I think Gandolf can also be a Milton Keynes moll or a Sheffeld slapper, depending on who’s calling the shots.

Doesn’t matter what she is; she attacks England or the UK (she doesn’t understand which) in her venomous xenophobic spleen.
I’m a Scot - not my legal system. I shouldn’t really give one. But hey.

Ok, people:
‘The McCanns’ case arose after they were given a wide order by the High Court requiring anyone on whom it was served to disclose relevant information on the case.
The police were among those served with the order, sparking serious issues about the conflict between the public interest and keeping confidentiality in investigations.
The Serious Organised Crimes Agency and the Attorney General intervened to advance their own arguments on public policy.’
That, believe it or not, is in the Mail.
What are things coming to?
The Mail admitting that not only the police but the Serious Organised Crimes Agency and the Attorney General piled in with boots flying?
And a spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police is reported as saying:
‘Today in court the public will have been made aware of the immense effort that the UK law enforcement agencies, led by Leicestershire Constabulary, have dedicated to the search for Madeleine.
‘Tim Scott QC, appearing for the McCanns, commented that these proceedings could be a diversion from the primary objective, which is the search to discover what happened to Madeleine when she disappeared.
We agree and on that basis we don’t intend to comment further at this stage.’
