Madeleine McCann: More Evidence, Tony Parsons Knows And Claims
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MAIL: “McCanns win right to see key evidence about Madeleine’s disappearance held by police”
The parents of Madeleine McCann today won the right to see key documents held by police relating to her disappearance.
Won?
The McCanns had planned to take Leicestershire Police to the High Court but no case was heard as the force agreed to give them access to 81 pieces of information gathered as part of the investigation.
Progress? Elsewhere, in the same online article:
The couple, who are both 40, are not expected to attend today’s hearing in London before Mrs Justice Hogg…The hearing is scheduled to take place in the High Court’s family division, although it will be held in open court.
Such is the news.
DAILY MIRROR: “Portuguese police to rule out Madeleine McCann abduction theory”
Portuguese police have decided that Madeleine McCann could not have been abducted, it was claimed yesterday.
Claimed.
They believe the youngster died in her family’s rented holiday flat in Praia da Luz.
Believe.
The newspaper Correio da Manha said a 50-page report, handed to prosecutors last week, reveals “new and strong doubts” about Gerry and Kate McCanns’ claim that their daughter was snatched.
So says a report about a report in a Portuguese newspaper.
TONY PARSONS: A case of cruelty
It happens less and less these days, simply because the story of Madeleine McCann is slipping from the news.
But every time that little girl’s face appears on the TV screen, our five-year-old daughter looks up and says exactly the same five words: “Did they find Madeleine yet?”
That little girl, the one who disappeared.
Somebody knows something. Almost certainly more than one person knows something. It’s not enough to shrug and walk away.
The Mirror’s Lori Campbell didn’t shrug.

I ponder about that person - whether that person has a heart and might understand what it must be like for Madeleine to have been taken and secreted from her parents and siblings and those she loved and felt secure with.’
I commented earlier today that the precise wording does not exclude the involvement of one of her parents; indeed, it is perfectly possible to construe that sentence as suggesting that Madeleine did not feel secure with her parents. As in, ‘why didn’t you come to us when we were crying?’
–
I am commenting on that phrase - so while I can see you taking what you say from other areas of the text, but from that one; from that paragraph, I cannot read that. How so?
On the releasing of files aspect, I agree that it is far from a success for the parents, and had wondered beforehand why they would take such an action. It is there to contemplate.. Desperation perhaps, which will be construed in a completely different ways by the pro and the anti camp

The ‘and’ is the problem; construction always requires precision and that ‘and’ is enough to suggest the existence of 2 groups of people.
Justice Hogg had a real problem, apart from the Attorney General glaring at her.
If she accepts the new and revised edition promulgated by the McCanns at Strasbourg, of there being one criminal as opposed to a gang of kidnappers working to fill an order, then the chances of Madeleine being alive are more or less non-existent.
I think she was trying to square the circle, and avoid mentioning that fact in her judgement.
As for the McCanns trying to get their hands on the files, the only thing we know is that the police, the Attorney General and SOCA don’t want them to.
They regard it as contrary to the public interest, and since I am a member of that public I’m not going to second guess them…

“But I’m glad I went, since that was history in the making; I think unprecedented.”
Yes, I agree. I’ve read what you wrote about that. But I can’t help wondering what would have happened if the police hadn’t offered to hand them the 81 leads …..
This looks like a win-win situation.
Leads from the ‘early days’ [in case she really was abducted] could have been important [not sure if they still are after an year]. I think they trust LP but they’re not sure or even doubt about the Portuguese teams efforts to follow them up. Did they explain why or how these leads could help them?
And the LP didn’t offend their Portuguese collegues by disclosing information that’s part of the ’secrecy’ thing. Which makes me wonder if they’re going to release more information if the secrecy period ends? Did anybody say anything about that?

You ‘forgot’ to mention being arrested and beaten and living in India [or somewhere like that] to study buddhisme. Seems someone hasn’t learned much of the buddhists….

And it’s always fun watching a lawyer who thought he had been really clever having to climb down in front of the pitiless gaze of 3 other leading Counsel…

It really doesn’t matter. Some have memories (& then get accused of compiling files!) & remember the mistakes others make.
But perhaps nannies do serious government work too? And get whipped over to war torn countries at the drop of a hat. I dunno! I am a mere stupid British citizen.

Sometimes a good rag, agreed. Can be rather dry. But they have journalists who do occasionally investigate, rather than regurgitating PA feeds day after day
Still, mentioned the taking of M from her parents

More importantly the fact remains that Justice Hogg has not read all 11,000 items of information in the Leicestershire police files. In fact, Justice Hogg has not read any of them. Which means that her capacity to judge whether the Mccanns may have been involved in the disappearance of their daughter is extremely limited.
The only evidence she has is her personal impressions; those are not the stuff of sound, evidence-based decisions.
It is, as far as I know, unprecedented for a Judge in the Family Courts to give a judgement in open court in a case involving a minor.
On the other hand, as far as I know, SOCA and the Attorney General have never previously had to intervene to assist a police force in compelling a Judge to vary an order which she had previously made as being contrary to the public interest.
And the public interest has to be upheld in public…

Sorry, I was wrong then. I allways find it hard to see if it’s a girl or a boy on a picture.
MY mrT has made arrangements that I have to go and visit the newborns of the members of his team. He says parents expect him to say the baby is beautiful and he thinks most baby’s are ugly!
That’s what he says, but I’m sure he’s afraid he has to hold them or cuddle them or make noices like ‘cootchycootchycoo’ and pull faces at them

And [finally] the ranting-xenophobic-multi-blogposter got exposed?
And the McC’s got access to information they could have had months ago were it not that their sollicitors didn’t make notes? Silly ….
Does anybody know about the other case [the one behind closed doors]?
Was it ‘our’ family McC?
But alas, no matter how much I would like to hope Madeleine is still alive and well [may be even adopted by a childless rich couple] I fear chances are small….
