MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR: “MCCANNS’ OPRAH WINDFALL”
MADELEINE McCann’s parents are planning a big bucks interview with US chatshow queen Oprah Winfrey to boost their search fund.
They’ve cracked America. In yer face Barbara Walters.
It is understood Oprah, 54, would be willing to break the bank for a cosy chat with Kate and Gerry.
How the Star came to understand this is unsaid. But let’s look out for the “cosy chat” - the one performed before tens of millions of people. Who’s looking for the missing child? We’re watching the parents.

Brandon, do we have a source for that other than the McCanns?
Because the Sacred Book of Google is only pulling them up, not anyone else…

I am no longer being bountyhunted thank you very much!
If you dont believe me ask Trish from accounts
July 10th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
My question is, and will always remain (I asked Cheryl this a couple of days ago, but as usual she just ignores me!).
Where are the statistics of those children who were KILLED because the amber alert was triggered? There will never be statistics like this, because no-one will probably ever know but it is a very real thing!
In certain instances, if an abductor feels that the heat is getting too close to him, he will in all probability kill the child he has abducted. If an amber alert is triggered, this will happen much sooner IMO!

Brandon,
I didnt realise we had criminals posting on this site.

Thanks. I wasn’t thinking of donating or joining for that very reason
July 10th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Nosey, I don’t know the statistics and I would certainly support other initiatives like the school bus that you m ention. I have just never thought though that, at face value, the amber alert idea was a bad one.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
And where is the bloody proof that madeleine was abducted? How dare they put their name to this, when they are suspects. THEY NEGLECTED HER BIG TIME, If she was abducted and thats a BIG IF
July 10th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Yampster 129. You should contact Terry Lubbock, he has been vocal in the past!
I haven’t the time to get into a TB slanging match, I also can’t be arsed to deal with the accompanying porno spam from his little mates (been there done that) but I would suggest that Lubbock would be a good call before donating / joining anything.

” Is amber alert a bad thing though ”
The written declaration doesn’t use the word “amber alert” anyway.
QUOTE
1. Calls on Member States to introduce a missing child alert system, the activation of which would require the immediate forwarding to the relevant news media, border authorities and customs and law enforcement agencies of details of:
– the missing child, with a photograph if available
– information relevant to the disappearance and/or the suspected abductor(s)
– a telephone number to call with information (116 000 where operational);
2. Calls on the Member States to reach cooperation agreements with all bordering states to ensure the capacity to raise an alert rapidly across any relevant territories;
3. Calls for the development of a common organisation to provide assistance and training to national bodies;
4. Instructs its President to forward this declaration, together with the names of the signatories, to the Commission and the Council.

How many kids died at the hands of their parents ?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
and which ones would amber alert have saved?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Come on then folks tell me how many kids have been abducted by paedophiles in the uk over the last 5 years?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
“Hopefully this will mean that far fewer families have to suffer the sort of pain WE are continuing to go through.”
So what about Madeleine ?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Melanie
No its not a ‘bad thing’ but in noone has come out with any figures.
I’d like to know how much it is going to cost and how many children it is likely to save.
Frankly in terms of child safety I think there are many more iniatives that should be adopted that would save more children for less money.
It P*****s me off that the McC’s and others are using the emotional aspect of paedophile abduction to impliment governement policies.
Give me subsidised school buses any day.

A joint statement issued by the McCanns said: “This is wonderful news and we would like to thank every single MEP who has signed the declaration.
“By supporting such a European wide structure (a network of national child alert systems), each and every one is helping to make Europe a safer place for children.
“Hopefully this will mean that far fewer families have to suffer the sort of pain we are continuing to go through.”
“We now urge the Commission to act swiftly in taking this forward in practical terms.”

Quick Tip of the Week
:
If you “forget” to pay a bill, and receive a debt collection agency letter demanding that you pay them with extra costs, DON’T pay the debt collection agency - pay the initial service provider ONLY the amount of the original bill.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
wtf
More back slapping at rothley manor then?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Brandon
Glad its sorted - I put all the important bills by Direct debit coz I’m useless at paying them, but managed to get a debt collectors letter about a sodding £12 book club payment which I ‘forgot’
cost me £25 in the end. No more book clubs for me
July 10th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Brandon, good news then. I don’t think escaping to SA is an option by the sound of it!
July 10th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Fine. That’s one thing solved then. Back to the other one to be solved …
I’ll join you again after lunch.

Does anyone on today know what happened to the Lubbock Trust and the monies donated to it when it was wound up? The web site run by TB that kept track of the campaign has been wound up as well.
M and A
No idea what has happened to it Yampster, but if you delve back in the archives round about last Oct/Nov you’ll find a lot of negative remarks from posters who were involved with it. It’ll be in some of the then current MM threads

Yes Melanie, they’re quite strict over here when it comes to not appearing for a court date, or having settled the debt prior to the court date.
I got a letter in my post box the other day giving me two days to contact the Prosecutor’s Office, or they would break down my front door and remove my furniture !!! IT WASN’T EVEN FOR ME, but for the guy who had rented the house before I bought it!!!!
