MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY STAR: “MCCANNS’ OPRAH WINDFALL”
MADELEINE McCann’s parents are planning a big bucks interview with US chatshow queen Oprah Winfrey to boost their search fund.
They’ve cracked America. In yer face Barbara Walters.
It is understood Oprah, 54, would be willing to break the bank for a cosy chat with Kate and Gerry.
How the Star came to understand this is unsaid. But let’s look out for the “cosy chat” - the one performed before tens of millions of people. Who’s looking for the missing child? We’re watching the parents.

Oprah will be in control.
It’s her show.
Not a setting which the good Dr’s will relish.

I Imagine (IF itwent ahead) it would be rather like this:
Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome Kate and Gerry McCann……….. booo hisss total mayhem, and a few moments later Oprah would say something like well ‘Thankyou that was very enlightening’ Here follows an hour of Tom and Jerry

She is a “tough” very intelligent and very well informed woman
If this interview ever happens,it wont be in the near future because there is still an investigation going on,they are still arguidos. There were talks over an interview in january which never happened for the same reasons. It was left spinning of its own …..
It has “ressucitated” from dusty bookshelves to serve as a spin and divert the `public pinion from judges, neglect and all. They are just whining they dont have enough cash-please-help-us find-madeleine.Thats all…..as if Oprah is going to do anything before their status is lifted….if ever

There is a terrible economic crisis in the USA.
I hope Oprah’s audience will get some money from the McCanns.
It would be nice if they, instead of asking and receiving all the time, also to give to other people.

I think Sarahs Law and Amber Alert are just knee jerk reactions anyway - you know the ’something needs to be seen to be done’, rather like knife and gun collections after a dreadful attack.
———————————
The knee-jerks are indeed a problem.
Mind you, if they bring it in anyway I can envisage mass revolt shortly after.
We get a text as a child goes missing every five minutes and we get another text every five minutes to say that they are no longer missing.
How the hell are we going to use our mobiles?

Also do wonder if a certain element would think its substitute baby sitting, rather like abortion is birthcontrol

Why don’t we all send an email to Oprah, asking her to read McCannfiles and Joana Morais (and more sites?) before they receive the parents?
If she is under the influence of the British media she can get the wrong impression of the McCanns.

M, may I suggest that you take a brief look at Oprah’s bio?
The Mccanns would be insane to go on that show; she would have them gutted and hung out to be smoked before the first commercial break…

They named it after this poor child
‘The McCanns are campaigning for an Amber Alert, named after Amber Hagerman, who was pulled off her bicycle in Texas when she was nine and later found murdered after sexual assault.’

Whether or not they have backing for the Amber Alert , it still has a long way to go. But I should be more worried if they set up a baby sitting service….
————————————–
I can’t imagine why. After all, provided you’ve got a good quality photo to provide to the media the police will have the little tykes back before their parents have reached the dessert course…

makes me sick to think of them parading around risking other kids lives too

Maybe not BF, but my feelings tell me that if he is in the hands of a predator, the issuing of an amber alert will be signing the child’s death warrant!

I can only imagine Oprah will have her research team pouring over such sites and blogs, possibly even Anorak.
If memory serves me well wasn’t Gerry going to appear on Oprah before , but wanted paying?
The whole sad story is very controversial too, which is probably why Oprah is entertaining the thought?

My question is, and will always remain (I asked Cheryl this a couple of days ago, but as usual she just ignores me!).
Where are the statistics of those children who were KILLED because the amber alert was triggered? There will never be statistics like this, because no-one will probably ever know but it is a very real thing!
In certain instances, if an abductor feels that the heat is getting too close to him, he will in all probability kill the child he has abducted. If an amber alert is triggered, this will happen much sooner IMO!
———————————————
I don’t think Cheryl was deliberately ignoring you; she was just in a bit of tizz about those wicked police officers, and the Soca, and the Attorney General, encouraging the howling wolves at the McCanns’ door.
The point you make is entirely valid; that’s why the police here are adamantly opposed to it.
There is no evidence that the Amber Alert saves lives; indeed, its’ mere existence may divert police officers from good old fashioned policing where they actually investigate what has happened, with particular reference to the blindingly obvious suspect standing right in front of them.
A few days back Cheryl claimed that the issuing an Amber Alert in the Brooke Bennett case had enabled the police to crack the case.
That was completely untrue; the Amber Alert played into the hands of the man who had kidnapped her, her uncle.
Whom she was last seen with.
The guy who had been convicted and jailed for the kidnapping and multiple rape of an 18 year old girl.
Brooke Bennett is, of course, dead.
I don’t think the police here want any ’successes’ of that sort…

GEM COUNTY- Devin Nettleton, an 11-year old boy from Middleton, is missing in Gem County and officials say they’re close to issuing out an Amber Alert after searching for him overnight. He reportedly went missing Wednesday afternoon.
Officials from several agencies searched for him overnight a couple of miles west of Highway 16, which is north of the Firebird Raceway and south of the Black Canyon canal. They expect to resume their search this morning at dawn.
Gem County Dispatch says the boy has been missing since sometime Wednesday afternoon. Dispatch is using at least two helicopters and all-terrain vehicles to aid in their search.

I don’t know - but summise that given what happened to her daughter, anything, that can protect children against p’does would be seen, by her, in a positive light.

when costs and statistics are not available/published it implies that this initiative is base on emotion alone.
ie if you care about children then you should support the amber alert.
Not a good enough reason for me to support it I’m afraid. As I said there are many more effective initiatives that will affect many more children, but they are not as glamerous / fear inspiring and headline grabbing so they never happen

Nosey, I don’t know the statistics and I would certainly support other initiatives like the school bus that you m ention. I have just never thought though that, at face value, the amber alert idea was a bad one.
——————————–
Oh, it’s one of those ideas that seem, on face value, to be warm and wonderful and a Thoroughly Good Thing.
If you talk to police officers specialising in missing children however, you get a different viewpoint.
Their concern lies in the fact that publicity can make an abductor kill a child who might otherwise be rescued; that is why we have no Amber Alert system in this country.
And I am not minded to take the views of those police officers lightly…
July 10th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Julie, I guess (and I except that this is probably not the best way of describing it) it is a question of balance.
