Kate and Gerry McCann yesterday won their fight for an EU-wide missing child alert system, in tribute to their daughter Madeleine. A declaration supporting the couple’s plea attracted backing from at least 398 MEPs - more than half the 785 European Parliament members.

I went to see Ben Affleck’s Gone Baby Gone for Radio 3’s Saturday Review. “Emotionally disturbing” it claimed to be, with its echoes of the Madeleine McCann case, and so it was, and a welcome change from the dull, written-to-formula films that pour from major studios. If profit rather than enthusiasm is the bottom line, all you get is variations on what made a profit last year.

Some have suggested that M had an accident while the Mcs were absent from the apartment, and that they subsequently covered up the death….etc. etc.
I know not everyone thinks they actually killed her themselves, either deliberately or accidentally.

Nobody doubts for one moment that they left the children alone. They themselves have never made any attempt to deny it. They never even tried to pretend it had happened only on 3rd May. They admitted they did the same thing every evening but one. Whether or not what they did will bring a charge of neglect or abandonment still remains to be seen. It may do.
However, people haven’t stopped there. They have accused them of killing Madeleine, covering up her death, disposing of her body, setting up a financial scam to defraud people of their money for what they know is a non-existent purpose, wasting unimaginable amounts of police time looking for a child they killed themselves, actively supporting the campaign to improve the European response to missing children cases in order to divert attention from their own crimes, etc. etc. etc.
Very serious offences, if they committed them, even if the death was accidental, although I know chenier thinks I over-state the case against them. My language was warm but I stand by my view that these would be very serious offences. Many posters on Anorak have given their personal opinion that the Mcs are guilty of these very crimes.
That is what this is all about.
There is no certain evidence, that we know of yet, that they committed these offences. Until there is, it is unfair, IMO, to suggest that they did.
I happen to have embraced, from the beginning, chenier’s view, which s/he actually expressed yesterday, much to my relief.
“Fortunately we live in a society where the determination of guilt depends on evidence properly gathered and presented to our courts….” (chenier, post 576)
Of course, such evidence may well exist and be in the PJ files. The public may simply be unaware of it. In which case, we will see charges brought soon. I hope.
Justice Hogg seems to be an ordinary member of the public, from that point of view, since she stated that there was no evidence that Madeleine is dead. If the UK police know of such evidence, they appear to have kept Justice Hogg in ignorance.

No, I won’t have it! I won’t have your negative comments about TB, that well-known serious, balanced, intelligent, sincere, unbigoted, steady and objective seeker-after-justice-for-Madeleine.
Why, to hear you speak, one might almost think he had supported theories such as :
-drugs orgies between tapas group and JW and partner (whom they had just met).
-JW lying about taking his baby out in pushchair when it couldn’t sleep (TB is a grandfather so he knows nobody would ever do that.)
-JW was really helping GM concoct his lies that night. (Even though he didn’t know him before the holiday, presumably JW didn’t want to miss an opportunity for another tennis match and drugs orgy with GM. Didn’t want GM banged up.)
-some sort of secret requiem conducted by local priest, whom they had just met. (Priests in these touristy places are so accommodating about things like that.) TB called this catholic “mumbo-jumbo”…..
-confession of crime to said priest followed by secret burial of M’s body in his little church crypt or yard (Priests in these touristy places are always ready to risk their own lives for child-murdering parents. Promotes the tourist trade.)
-report by said priest to the Vatican, thereby breaking seal of confessional.
- Pope ignoring said report but helpfully removing the news from Vatican news site.
-”swinging” by Mcs and friends. (The group went on holiday, presumably, to facilitate partner-swapping, even taking along a mother-in-law to give a respectable gloss to the trip.)
-Mcs drugging their children to go out “boozing”, one of TB’s favourite words. (It’s well-known that doctors are usually ready to risk their careers for the sake of a meal and a quiz on holiday.)
-Mcs being “out on the town” on night of 3rd of May (TB’s actual words…such an objective and accurate phrase for what they did.)
- a private prosecution for neglect should be brought against the Mcs, in the UK, for neglect. (As a former social worker and solicitor, TB will never, of course, have seen cases a hundred times worse which the UK social services departments and police totally ignore even when BEGGED to intervene….. Believe me, I know about this.)
- burial of M’s body on way to Fatima or Huelva (Mcs not bothered about possibility of some interested onlooker noticing something…. Body maybe kept in fridge or freezer in meantime…..? Luckily, none of their many visitors noticed anything….Phew!)
-Mcs catholic therefore likely to be guilty of something serious anyway.
-the EU is a papist plot to overthrow the British (and protestant?) way of life….(you can read this paper in the Wiki section on TB)
- evolution is a dangerous and untrue myth which reputable scientists now dismiss (you can also read about that in Wiki)
(I happen to agree that the EU is bad for the UK in many ways, but I don’t think it’s a papist plot….. I personally have absolutely no difficulty in accepting that we evolved from apes but I fully accept TB’s right to believe otherwise. I wonder if he includes catholics among human beings who didn’t evolve from apes?)
Since he has teamed up with Stevo, would it be unfair to assume he at least accepts some of Stevo’s theories?? Here are a few :
-M already dead on 2nd May and another child substituted at the kids’ club in her place on the 3rd to fool everyone into thinking she was still alive. (Hopefully, this child will not remember anything about this in later life….not to mention the nannies. But, as we know, one little blonde girl is much like another…)
- wholesale photo-faking by Mcs in the hope that the PJ would be too daft to notice (after all, have they even got digi cameras in Portugal yet??)
