Madeleine McCann: Child Alert, Daily Mail Knows And Fay Weldon
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR: “McCanns win child alert fight MADELEINE”
Kate and Gerry McCann yesterday won their fight for an EU-wide missing child alert system, in tribute to their daughter Madeleine. A declaration supporting the couple’s plea attracted backing from at least 398 MEPs - more than half the 785 European Parliament members.
Or as the Mail said earlier in the week: DAILY MAIL: “Brussels throws out McCann’s appeal for European missing child alert system”
THE INDEPENDENT: “Cultural Life: Fay Weldon, Author”
Film
I went to see Ben Affleck’s Gone Baby Gone for Radio 3’s Saturday Review. “Emotionally disturbing” it claimed to be, with its echoes of the Madeleine McCann case, and so it was, and a welcome change from the dull, written-to-formula films that pour from major studios. If profit rather than enthusiasm is the bottom line, all you get is variations on what made a profit last year.
On it goes…

There has been talk of leaks in the early stages of the investigation.
I cannot believe that now - after a long time of silence - details of the PJ’s FINAL REPORT to the hands of the Prosecutor are suddenly available to the newspapers …

Hi Cheryl!
Hope you got my message the other evening?
Nice to see you. Thanks for the post.
yes, I know it was TB’s favourite theme but what was it based on?!
I know the priest’s right and duty to maintain the seal of the confessional is respected but what evidence is there that one or other or both of the Mcs “confessed”? The fact that they spoke to him doesn’t mean that the sacrament of reconciliation took place. Where did all that come from?
And even if it did, they might just have been talking about having left the children alone, or whatever.
But who says they confessed at all?
Is it likely that a priest to whom they had confessed a crime, eg. killing their child, would carry on conducting prayer services and masses for them, asking God for her safe return? This priest led the anniversary mass in Praia da Luz for Madeleine one year after her disappearance. It is also on record in a form at least as reliable as the one Gandolf gives (The Resident) that this priest denied as “barbarism” the thngs that had been said about him in these other press “reports”.
I was just wondering why Gandolf, of all people, would pay any attention to these stories. I wondered if he had any firm basis.
Hope you are well.
Must go now. We have visitors staying.

Could you give any links to sources that say the priest refused to tell the police what he knew?
Thanks very much.

Maria, remember that was TB’s favourite theme re the Priest way back when? It all fell back on the fact that Priests are forbidden to reveal what they hear in confession. I think there is some doubt if that is respected over in Europe but over here it is recognized in all courts that a Priest is not expected to testify nor can be forced to.

Cost of a babysitter-8 Euros an hour, cost of taking the kids with you-an extra 20 Euros-Cost to the taxpayer of leaving them behind-Priceless-You know it makes sense-send someone a Mccann gift card today-acceptable, it would seem, in all European countries.

It is a mess jo, and embroiled in that mess is Madeleine McCann, serious questions need asking, me I would start with the priest. As I understand it he refused to divulge what he knows to the PJ, yet he was not under the protection of arguido status, why was he allowed to keep silent.

Ferdinand Says:
July 12th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
To elaborate:
” The mystery lies with one or two of the ten or twelve elements that used to enter that apartment.”
Who used to enter the appartment? Not necessarily all of the Tapas9 (why should they, Mrs. Webster for example?). But certainly some of the staff, cleaners etc.
#
Ferdinand, yes the words of Mr Flores are open to interpretation - in fact I was expecting someone to come back and say T9 + the three McCann children = 12. That’s another interpretation.
My impression is he is telling us there were 3 other adults in the group, perhaps people who didn’t fly out with the T9 (eg were there already or live in the area.) If this is the case surely it will come out one day, it’s a holiday resort for gawd’s sake, someone must have seen these people.
As for the dogs, my understanding is that Eddie is second to none when it comes to finding a live body (eg person trapped after an explosion) or a dead body (eg murder victim buried in a field) BUT that we should be sceptical about his ability to smell a place where a body has supposedly BEEN.
Anyway it looks certain now that aside of anything Eddie may have sniffed, nothing was found in the Renault or any other car, always one of the more bizarre and intriguing aspects to this story.
