THE Mail on Sunday says the mysterious graffiti artist and native Bristolian Banksy is a 34-year-old former public school pupil called Robin Gunningham.
No, not that Robin Cunningham who passed away, at least we think not.
A spokeswoman for Banksy, a Mrs Gunningham, refused to comment on the report on her son. Says she to the BBC: “We get these calls all the time. I’ll say what I always say: I never confirm or deny these stories”.
She went on to say that Robin is a wonderful son, an enthusiastic artist, and when he settles down he will make somdone a very good accountant…

I think the most important thing about art is that its needs a point, Banksy work has a point. His work is about the world today, its not about him and he’s made that clear, the man obviously doesn’t want to be recongnized as the artist, so we should respect that.

Just kidding, Joe Slovo. I was a bit rude for a second. A slip of the fingers, if you will.
Hell’s granny.

Aw bless - in reply to Joe Slovo. Chill, man! Kindly remove your head from your anus and stop being Mr Angry from Tunbridge Wells.
It doesn’t matter who Banksy is! Or whether he has a publicist or a tame rat ( although these may be the same thing) - he’s just baring his arse to the po-faced establishment (and making pretty good social comment at the same time.)
All power to your arsehole, Banksy - sorry that was a slip of the fingers - I meant aerosol.
Hell’s granny.

Hate to disappoint the rumour mongers among you all , but I have been doing a bit of digging myself and I stumbled upon this:

It seems that dear old Robin Gunningham, rest his soul, is dead and has been for four years now. Note that his death was prior to the London evening standard originally publishing the Peter Dean Rickard picture that is the cornerstone of this “expose”.

The good thing about Banksy, for me, is the way he gets people talking about the world around them and expressing a passion for it - even if it’s a hate that Banksy brings the left-wing thinking to the front - it makes no difference. The majority of youngsters today will pay attention to Banksy and ask questions, whereas the politicians and educational systems seem to bore them to tears. So leave Banksy alone; at least someone is attempting to make politics interesting and pretty as well as thought prevoking.

the urban myth of Banksy lives on. We may never know his real identity . We might not care either .”Banksy” is actually an urban collective of some real and virtual artists who take turns to invent something which is copied from the school wall. Rich and famous he might be , original he certainly isn’t

he’s a street artist, not a world political figure - what’s the harm in a bit of mystery? long may he continue provoking us into thinking a bit harder.

I can’t stand Banksy anyway. Left-wing bigotry isn’t any nicer than right-wing. Mao killed thousands of people just by labelling them Imperialists and reactionary dogs… not that anyone seems to care.

Of course he has a publisist ! I have had pic of him for a while when he was ‘caught’ doing the yellow line flower piece but didn’t publish them with the other shots of his work as I believe his right to anonimity is valid ! FFS stop trying to unmask him and leave Banksy to decorate and educate the world !

Anorak’s Turner Prize entry Vomit In Sock was inspired by Gordon Banksy
