Madeleine McCann: Clarence Mitchell For Hire, Richard Desmond And The Guardian Repeats
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell ponders PR move
As Kate and Gerry McCann return from their first family holiday since their daughter Madeleine disappeared 14 months ago, their spokesman Clarence Mitchell is in talks to join a PR agency where he plans to help other parents who have lost children to deal with the media.
Such is the news of the McCann case that the internet traffic-hungry Telegraph is looking at Clarence Mitchell’s career options. An interviwer might ask him what good has come of all the PR and media handling, and point out that not every missing child is the the blonde, photgenic progency of middle-class doctors and thus not deemed to be as newsworthy.
Says Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman:
“I’m happy to help anyone in the eye of a media storm, but I need to put myself on a firm financial footing. I should stress, however, that there’s absolutely no question of me abandoning Kate and Gerry McCann.”
Working for the McCanns is a job, and it pays. But when will it end?
THE GUARDIAN: “Fakery fallout hits TV sector”
Deception rows caused several top television figures to slide down the top 100. It’s the MediaGuardian 100, an arbitrary league table of TV shows and staff.
The newspaper sector accounts for three of the top 10 fallers - two editors and a proprietor. Richard Desmond is the second biggest faller, down 20 places to 55, after his newspapers had to make unprecedented front-page apologies and pay £550,000 in damages to the family of Madeleine McCann.
And the Guardian loves to write about Desmond:
55. Richard Desmond
In March, Richard Desmond’s Express Newspapers titles ran unprecedented apologies and paid £550,000 in damages over stories they had run about the family of Madeleine McCann….
It was another blow to the credibility of the papers, credibility that has suffered ever since Desmond bought them in 2000…
Under-resourced and undermined by the McCann apology, Desmond’s newspaper group also saw the first 24-hour national newspaper strike for 18 years in a dispute about pay and outsourcing.
Desmond is Fleet Street’s least-loved proprietor, but as the Observer’s Peter Preston memorably put it: “No one likes him, though (in common with Millwall FC) he doesn’t seem to care.”
No.78 is Peter Wright, editor of the Mail on Sunday.
If Wright is occasionally a controversial figure, then he gained extra credibility this year when he joined the Press Complaints Commission after the Daily Express editor, Peter Hill, stepped down in the wake of Express Newspapers’ £550,000 damages payout to the family of Madeleine McCann.
James Murdoch takes the top spot from his father as other City players suffer a tough year
Richard Desmond, the owner of Express Newspapers, has also had a mixed year, paying out £550,000 in damages to Gerry and Kate McCann for a string of inaccurate articles about their daughter Madeleine’s disappearance, and taking the unprecedented step of publishing front-page apologies in all four Express and Star national titles.
Is the Guardian obsessed with Richard Desmond?

Am not sceptical myself though have never experienced any sightings. It was just that a woman with ’sight’ approached my sister (total stranger) and said that she could she her son who was with her.
Her son died 12 years ago and I would worry if he wasn’t at peace, but then how could he be with his mum?
………………………………………………………….
It’s your perception of where he is that matters - I mean - where do you perceive “being at peace ” to be ? He can be at peace and “with” his Mum quite easily. We “earthbound mortals” sometimes can’t quite grasp the concept of just “being ” ……
I could bore you witless with incidences of Brother in Law being “with” me and there is no way Chris could ever have known where I had been or what I had been doing when he was there…small ‘for instance’….I was feeling particularly low one day, went over to where he is buried, sat in the sunshine with my back to his gravestone, incidentally it is a very small, private and lovely churchyard, read part of a book my Son-in-Law had lent me which I was not particularly interested in, but was determined to read it so I could comment on it if he asked me about it. Sat there for an hour or so then went home feeling very much better, never told a soul by the way. Next time I went to see Chris she said “Nick says, he was there and he didn’t go a bundle on your reading matter, not his cup of tea at all “….!!

Can spirits who are ‘at peace’ come back?
……………………………………………….
I don’t really know, I like to think that even if they are “at peace” they still communicate with us and are around us watching over us so to speak. I know sometimes in Christine’s readings, my Grandma has come through and given me some encouragement at low times, so they know what’s going on and must be watching, but as to “coming back” , I think that would be as far as it goes….oh…and for the sceptics, there cannot be too many Ethels who were married to an Albert Edwin who was a gardener in “an important place” and there is no way Chris could ever have known, or ever needed to know about my Grandparents so she could not have prior knowledge.

I’ve always been a firm believer in spirits hanging around
………………………………………………………
I suppose - if you think about it, they can be anywhere they want but I know what you mean. In some cases they have hung around for years simply because they didn’t know they were “gone” and have had to be encouraged to leave and go to rest, by Mediums and such.
In the case of all the “manifestations” my grandson experienced, we were able to prove them all and find out their history and it was all quite gob-smacking. The boy was far too young to know what was going on and we had to be very careful who we asked, and what we asked when trying to “prove” them and then we had to enlist some aid to stop them coming across.
The manifestations ceased as the boy got older though and he certainly doesn’t “see” or hear anything now. This “Ghost Club” of your brother’s friend’s sounds fascinating !!

Hello secret squirrel Cheryl-any top secret missions you want to share with us???
_
No secret missions, Whoops, just things you learn you never talk about. Why I’m a stickler on loyalty and not breaking trust when placed in one. You also develop instincts about people and can all most get into their minds, and sometimes you actually can if you finesee that ability. There was this one person just every instinct within me told me he was not a loyal team player and not to be trusted. I said something to the boss about it and he said oh no you know it is just because you don’t like him you feel that way. I didn’t like him and made no bones about it but I separated my personal feelings from my instincts. Long and short of it was, he had found a way to get into the secure computer the boss had and was reading all emails.

why does pinchy face have to describe everything as “incredibly”?

Because the Fund can’t run to a thesaurus?
What I find incredibly hard to fathom is why he doesn’t sack M3.
THe usual assumption when you have an obviously unsuitable person who continues to draw a socking great wage is that it’s nepotism, sex or blackmail…

why does pinchy face have to describe everything as “incredibly”?
is it a subconscious reference to the word’s synonyms?
like “unbelievably”?
or “awfully”?
or is he just thick as shit?
what fun

Don’t ghosts (spirits) usually stay in the place they met an ‘untimely’ death? Wouldn’t one have to go back to that room she disappeared from and may have lost her life in to find it?
……………………………………..
Not necessarily, my Grandson, not the Resident Grandson, but my daughter’s son who lives here in the village, when he was a little boy, probably under six years old, used to attract “presences” like mad. We were told that it was because he was very fair-haired and blue-eyed and those sort of kiddies are very prone to the channelling bit. One of the spirits was of a school teacher who worked at a school nine miles from here and died in that village. She was the most aggressive and threw his books across the bedroom floor complaining that he “wouldn’t learn his lessons” . Another one used to live in the house but died in a Home in a village nearby, so - no rhyme nor reason really.
